When I became contracted at Macomb's local hospital, despite being a small town, there were many lodging options that could cater to my block scheduling. For whatever reason I picked Super 8 first and when I disclosed I'd be coming there for at least 13 weeks (ended up being 26 weeks), 2-3 nights p/week, the owner and his wife asked me to choose to stay with them vs their competition and I eagerly agreed as they gave me consistent pricing, despite what the websites show as the prices always seem to fluctuate. Not having a consistent place to stay between my shifts can add an extra layer of difficulty that I really don't care to have to deal with so this was perfect. I of course was on-guard for the first couple of weeks just to ensure I was in the right place and it turns out I was. The owners value your privacy and respect your space. They do whatever they can to make your stay more pleasant and they've even alerted me as to weeks/ends when the hotel would be sold out due to local functions (mainly in the summer) to which I was truly grateful. I hadn't realized that twice, all the hotels/airbnb's were booked completely, but Mr. Patel saved me a room when they were sold out. I would've been sleeping in my car had he not gone that extra mile for me. While this property may not be a true 5 stars bc of a lack of a fancy lobby and brand new wood door frames with all matching microwaves, I'm giving it a 5 stars because of the trust of the people and because they always had everything I needed, such as the fridges which each hold several days of food at a time, to the microwave so I can heat it all up. Adjustable temperatures also was a huge perk for me too because the wall units work so quickly, whether it was heat or cool air. There was never a night where I laid in bed angry about something not working or about people being too loud or there not being enough parking, etc. My last night there was New Years Eve 2024. While I always sleep with white noise to drown out unwanted noises, I was a little nervous about this particular night - I'm from the city and in the city everyone gets so loud with fireworks - there was nothing, it was just peaceful, I slept all night long without interruption. Thank you so much Mr and Mrs Patel for always giving me a safe place to rest my head and store my belongings. I would recommend staying here above all others and would definitely book again vs other hotels should I ever happen to end back up in Macomb. Best wishes to you both and to your...
Read moreI was in Macomb with 3 other people over the weekend of February 2nd-3rd to see a comedian at WIU, and we used Hotwire to book a room in town. We ended up with two rooms the Super 8, which I will certainly say was very inexpensive for young adults on a budget (I think we ended up paying $54/room/night). I had read some reviews of this place online, most were good, a few were bad, so I kind of had an idea what to expect from this place. When you first pull up to the hotel, the curb appeal is definitely not there. It's very outdated, attached to a small strip mall with a tanning salon, and next door to an old family restaurant. However the proximity to campus and downtown was unbeatable. The hotel owners and staff are Indian, I'm not using that in a derogatory sense, that is what they are, and I have absolutely no problem with that. The staff are very friendly and they knew who I was when I walked up to the front desk (I'm assuming due to the low occupancy over the weekend). The facility interior had just been freshly painted, which I'm sure helped to remove the odor of smoker's past. However the carpet and furnishings are extremely outdated. Our room was fairly large, we opted for a king size bed. The bed was about as comfortable as a cheap hotel room could provide. The comforter was probably original to the property, but clean. There is complimentary WiFi at the hotel, which was nice for my iPhone. There was a microwave and a fridge in our room which was very convenient for our Aurelio's pizza leftovers (highly recommended!) Overall the room was just fair. I had read a review of someone discovering bed bugs at this particular hotel, however we had NO problems with anything of that nature. The "continental" breakfast was definitely not award winning, I didn't eat anything but one of the girls I traveled with was up early enough to check it out and she said it was pretty basic. Juice. cereal, yogurt. Overall, our stay was just OK. If you're looking for a cheap hotel room for one night as a campus visit, then I would say go ahead and book a room at the Super 8. But if you want to go a little bit nicer and farther off campus, steer clear. It wasn't the worst place to stay, but I definitely won't stay there again. It served its purpose for the night of our spontaneous...
Read moreBed Bugs !!!! This is my second night here. The first night I found several bite marks, looked almost like I'd been bitten by fleas. The second night (tonight) I caught a bed bug on me! I wrapped it in a tissue and brought it down to the front desk, The manager, who also claimed to be the owner swore it wasn't a bed bug and denied having them at all. He also said that they couldn't afford to protect against bed bugs because buying mattress covers would be too expensive and the hotel could not afford that. However he blatantly denied having bed bugs despite the obvious proof. He said another guest did the same thing I did and he made the guest check out early. The manager then asked where I came from and insinuated that I brought the bed bug with me just like the other guest supposedly had. I pointed out that if I was the second guest he knew of with this problem then he probably had bed bugs. He again denied it. I got nowhere with the management here. I checked my mattress after the conversation and found several other signs of bed bugs. I took pictures and still have my bed bug sample I just don't know what to do with it. I often use reviews to help me find hotels and restaurants, but this is the first time I have been compelled to write one. I would want to be warned about bed bugs so I thought others might as well. I will never stay here again. I hope I don't bring bed bugs home with me from this place and am now very worried about it. Beware if...
