With this being our first visit to "the county" (north woods), Maine, much research was done prior to booking lodging. Upon arrival, we were not sure we were even in the right place. After calling the inn from the street to confirm that they were open & that we were in the right spot, we were less reluctant to enter. When we met Manon @ the front desk & checked in, she took all our prior apprehension away. The inn looks somewhat institutional & with no obvious parking lot. We were assured parking across the street, on the street, was correct. Moving our luggage in for our 2 night stay was a challenge with my husband on crutches but Manon came to our rescue. She even double-backed & manned the breakfast area the next morning. She made us ployes (like a slightly less sweet crepe w/ fruit or syrup topping) for breakfast & shared some interesting info re: Madawaska & how some cell phones were on nearby Canadian (maritime?) time. Our room was large, light, comfortable & the bathroom was beautiful (even had a handheld shower). The building has an interesting history as a convent @ one time & was exceptionally clean & well maintained. Housekeeping staff were visible, helpful & very knowledgeable about local sights when asked questions. If we are ever in this area again, we will absolutely stay here & hopefully get to see Manon & the wonderful housekeeper we really enjoyed talking to. One word of advice though, it would be very helpful to have a luggage cart or even a large wagon to use when transporting luggage. They also do have an elevator & a...
Read morePlanning our holiday in Maine, and decided to go to one of the Four Corners to experience the French culture. Inn of Acadia looked fine, we were only going to be there two nights and thought we would take a chance. This inn, formerly a convent, turned out to be our favorite inn in all of Maine, and that includes the very expensive one we chose in Bar Harbor.
The rooms were large, the paint was fresh, the carpet, too. I noticed windowsills made of the same material as the countertops, fresh caulking in the bathroom, great window shades that were easy to open and close (and closed completely). In short, I immediately thought of health care inspections that I used to endure as an administrator and that this inn would pass with flying colors.
The restaurant was open, and the food in the evening was good. Breakfast offered a few unusual options including a staff member who offered and prepared fruit filled ployes. We sampled and enjoyed little energy bites that came with the much requested recipe.
I can't leave this review without commenting on the staff. Every one of them was welcoming, positive and warm.
I would definitely come back, and I would definitely recommend...
Read moreStayed here five years ago (August 2018) at the tail end of my post-bar exam trip to Maine. This is a very nice, albeit unconventional, place. The rooms are nice. The beds are nice and cozy. Bathrooms are more than adequate.
Staff was extremely friendly. The night I checked in, the front desk girl called me to make sure I was still coming and happily stayed late so I could check in shortly before midnight (I had climbed Katahdin earlier the same day and had not realized how far away the inn was from Katahdin). She was also a good cook at the restaurant. Other front desk staff very courteous as well. One gave me suggestions on sights to see across the border.
Food was delicious at the restaurant. Had a nice steak that was an explanation point on a great vacation. Ployes for breakfast also delicious.
Madawaska and northern Aroostook County are beautiful bilingual places. Culture is like nowhere else in the US. Edmundston is a nice town as well with friendly francophone folks (friendliness declines, unfortunately, once you cross into Quebec).
Would highly recommend the Inn of Acadia to any visitors to Maine's northern tip and may return as soon...
