I stayed for 3 nights. We arrived as a late check in. We got there around 10:15. There is a "late check in" room that stays open from 5:00pm to 11:00pm. In this room, the left the key to my cabin and registration form. You just fill out the form and drop it into the box. There is a number to call for an escort to your cabin. I called twice, but no one answered. The did leave me a map of the property so I was able to find the cabin on my own. No biggie. If you arrive after 11:00pm, you can "boondock" in the parking lot for $15 until the office opens at 9:00am.
We got to our cabin and it was nice and clean. It included linens, towels, and everything you need in the kitchen to cook. There were portable heaters in the rooms. I don't think the A/C worked but it was cool outside so it stayed comfortable inside.
We purchased wood for a campfire at the office. Our campsite was so quite and peaceful and had the most beautiful view of Lake Oconee. There was also a nice table and chairs outside for us to enjoy our dinner outside.
There is the cutest little coffee shop in front of the property. It is in an old train car. The person working the shop was very nice and helpful. They have interesting menu options and add ins for your drink. The prices are competitive with other coffee shops. We were able to view the menu and order online. My daughter went to pick up our drinks. One of the KOA managers offered her a ride to the coffee shop on her golf cart. She even waited for her to give her a ride back.
We were in an out at various times of the day and night. The property is dark, but I love that for the "camping" experience. the grounds seemed well kept. The roads are narrow, so it may be difficult to navigate for larger trucks, but it was fine for my mid-sized sedan. It was so quiet each night we were there. We didn't even see anyone outside after dark. In the mornings, you see people out early walking their dogs and saying "hi" to other neighbors. Everyone was so friendly.
At the entrance to the property, on the opposite side of the coffee shop, there is a nature center. There a 3 goats, squirrels, bearded dragon, and a few other animals. The lady in the nature center was very nice and came out to chat with us and talk with us about the goats.
We enjoyed walking to the beach area. We really couldn't enjoy it as it was chilly out and raining, but the sunsets were absolutely gorgeous!
Upon check out, they ask for all linens to be put in a bag or pillow case and left by the door, cabin swept, dishes washed, and trash taken out. No biggie. There are 2 dumpsters on the property, located at the front. May be a bit of a walk, but we just put the trash on the back of my car and drove to the dumpsters on our way out.
I have no complaints based on my experience. This is a campground, not a 5 star hotel, and based on other reviews I've read, I feel some people forget this. This was an amazing experience for me and my daughter and we will definitely be staying...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI will never go back here again. From the moment we got to this place it was awful. We got there late at night, and told the staff we would be late. They failed to tell us that when we got there we would not be able to park until morning of it was after 11, something that should be posted on website or in confirmation email, but wasn't. So we stayed in the parking lot as instructed until 9am when they opened. Once we are able to park, the staff directed us to our spot, however he was driving a golf cart and somehow forgot we were towing 43 feet. He was flying to our spot. When I say it is cramped for space to move in this place it is an understatement. The place is packed, with sharp turns and vehicles sticking out into the roadway. We almost hit FOUR vehicles trying to turn at curves to get to our spot. We had to back up and squeeze through. We get to our spot and finally lay down to get some rest and there is a knock at the door. It is the man who parked us, he is claiming that he THINKS we may have hit someone's vehicle even though we had no damage to our unit and did not feel ourselves hit anyone. We tell him we don't think we did and lay back down. An hour later another knock at the door, again the people of the park, just another guy...saying the man who claimed we hit his vehicle is still fussing. Again, we tell him we have no damage and that we didn't feel ourselves hit anything. They go away. Several hours later, another knock at the door. This time it is the man who is claiming we hit his vehicle. We tell him the same thing and leave the camp so we can actually relax for awhile. We come back to the camp late and the next morning, very early there is a knock at the door, this time it's the law. He said a report was made on us that we hit someone's vehicle. We tell him the same thing. Throughout the day 4 more people come by, with one being the officer again and we finally just resolve we won't be getting rest any of our vacation. We finally go by the man's vehicle that we supposedly hit and see that it was a vehicle we were talking about on the way into our camp. IT HAD ALREADY BEEN HIT BEFORE WE PASSED THEM! I pointed it out to my husband when I saw it, again before we passed..We were joking saying that they prolly got hit by someone there since it was such a tight squeeze and his vehicle was out in the road. We left there a day early, lost our money and had to go somewhere else just to get some peace. By this time the whole camp thought we were in some sort of trouble because the law kept coming out. Horrible,...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWorst campground layout I have ever seen. You will need to attend at least 3 defensive driving courses before navigating this KOA. I say 3 because I've been to 2 and that was not enough. They put me in a spot not big enough for a 30 foot camper much less my big 42' 5th Wheel. Even though I complained and questioned they assured me they could guide me in. I even pleaded for a different site and they said there were no more. While backing me in to this utterly tight and uneven site my truck bed caps were ripped off by my camper and the camper was punctured. After filling out an accident report, the front office miraculously found another site. If only they had "found" it when I asked earlier the damage to my truck and camper might have been avoided.
After parking, my wife and I watched countless campers performing daredevil maneuvers to get into sites all around the campground. The sites here are way to small and they did no work to make it easy to maneuver this campground. I cant even believe KOA put there name on this. The sites are so small that 1 camper's awning extending over someone else's bump out. The sad part is on their website they have the nerve to say the campground can accommodate up to 70' rigs. Not unless its modular and they are bringing it in sections.
I have no idea how we are getting out of here at the end of the weekend. We would leave now but I literally need the campers in front of me to leave to I can safely depart. I just hope they are not staying for an extended time....we night be if they are.
UPDATE* Went to the front office to get insurance information so I could file a claim and the staff was totally unhelpful and evasive. I asked that they call the manager and they said Lisa was off today. I asked for Lisa's full name...evasive. Then she literally said Lisa was just here because there was a call about full dumpsters out front. (True statement BTW- totally disgusting out front). But anyways....I then said so you can call the manager in for full trashcans but you cant call her when someone's camper is damaged due to your negligence. She then said I never said we called her. I'm like, did you use smoke signals to get in touch with her. Back to evasiveness. I cant wait to get home so I can start the process to sue this place for...
