I've just read some of your reviews and I suppose if you have only come for the past 2 yrs. you would never know how much you were missing from years ago. Our family used to stay a week every summer for over 20 years. My daughter is now 30 and still always couldn't wait to come during all of her teenage years. (that alone was worth the price of admission. The room and food (we were on the 2 meals a day plan) were a package. NOTHING was extra. (except there was one night when a van went into North Conway to attend a musical/play for those interested) Every day we loved going to either breakfast or dinner to "connect" with the ppl whom we hadn't seen for a year.(we all booked the same week every year before we left) There was a real sense of family and community that was more than likely not found in most places. The room was vacuumed daily, the bathroom was cleaned daily, and beds were made daily. We did not return in the summers of 2020/21 bc of the pandemic. However, we returned with one family for 2 days in the early fall/of 21, and OMG, it felt like we were lodging in a new place for the first time. Although the surroundings looked the same, the climate was ONLY ALL BUSINESS. Nothing, absolutely nothing was the same. Oh, wait, there was complimentary coffee(either cafe or de-cafe) & assorted teas downstairs in the mill. We knew this was the case when booking the rooms and hence, brought all our own food with us. What a sad disappointment. An egg sandwich? What's that? (sounds like Dunkin's) compared to the wonderful hot breakfasts we were accustomed to. I guess we saw some of this coming prior to COvid, with the daily buffet option. That said, you could still order items off of a menu. I purchased something from the gift shop and requested as in for the past 20+ years to put it on our room bill. They said, sorry, we don't do that anymore. Well, it was a wonderful time spent with the family we went with and we got the opportunity to share what it used to be like and what it is now. Then, community reunion, Now, lodging. I know nothing lasts forever, but I must say our gem of a family vacation spot was truly that every year for over 20 years and I guess if you never had it, then there's nothing to miss. It's still beautiful, but it used to be that once you got there, you never had to leave for anything. From the comments I read, that no longer is the case unless you bring everything with you and cook outside. I am sad, however so grateful that we had many years of fun and a sense of community...
Read moreEnjoyed a family ski weekend (2 adults, 2 kids) at Purity Spring/King Pine. Stayed in ski-in-ski-out family room in the King Pine Lodge building. Our room was a perfect location for us, and being able to come back in for snack and lunch breaks was a amazing. We will definitely return!!
Slight hiccup upon arrival Friday night -- when we obtained our keycards and entered our room, it had not been cleaned since previous guests (unmade beds, trash in trash cans, etc). As it was 8:15, we had to call the "after hours" helpline. We were promptly assisted by a courteous and professional gentleman who brought us down the road to a different lodging location for the night. At 9am on Saturday morning, we were able to enter our originally scheduled room in the KP lodge. Everyone was courteous and helpful, but it made for a late night Friday and a difficult Saturday early morning doing an extra pack/unpack (especially with kiddos who aren't always the most easy going). Due to the logistics, we ended up with a more stressful Saturday morning and a later ski start than ideal, but all staff members were wonderful and accommodating.
Once we were settled in our planned room, we had a great ski Saturday -- Bunny Hill for learning and then a great time over all trails. Not crowded and no waiting in lift lines. We loved that we could ski till 6pm.... So fun! We had a nice dinner at Traditions, where the service and food were excellent.
Our room had sleeping quarters for 6, but there were 4 of us, so we had adequate space for our snow gear and relaxing. Room was adequate -- nothing special, but no complaints. View of the snow grooming at night was so fun, and we loved waking up to the ski slopes right out our window.
Got a first thing start on Sunday and had a great ski day before heading home.
All in all, a wonderful, top notch weekend at a spot we will definitely return to... And we'll bring family and friends. We had some initial trouble with the lodging/logistics, but all staff...

The rooms: I’ve seen comments claiming that it’s “rustic”, but I think they just misspelled “old and dated.” These rooms haven’t been updated beyond a coat of paint since about 1975. The carpet and furniture in common areas is even older. The doors from outside going into the room wings don’t close completely, which presents a huge safety hazard. There’s little to no insulation, because the rooms in summer are incredibly warm and humid, despite the AC blasting (and comfy) in the common areas. The in-room amenities are still 20 years out of date. We had to buy a real coffee pot because the tiny one in the room was useless.
Housekeeping visited our room twice in the 5 days we stayed, the first time only to drop off fresh towels but not take away the wet ones (seriously, with the room that humid there was no way towels would dry); the second time was just to take our trash and give even more towels. No beds made, no other trash taken, nothing.
The service: When we did talk to housekeeping and the front desk, they were very nice… especially when I had to tell them that the fire alarm had woken us up TWICE. According to one in my group, the event planner was fantastic and very flexible, which was very much appreciated.
The location: The area may be beautiful, but the King Pine property is too far from the main resort to really be able to do anything. It’s also so far away from anything that there is no cell signal whatsoever. It’s 20-30 minutes away from anything, which might be fine while skiing but not so much while staying in the summer.
Had we known what we were getting into when we booked the stay, our travel plans would have been much different, and we only would have stayed for a single night. It’s not going to be someplace I ever choose...
