I visited Hotel Cazan after Hotels.com had sent me to an overbooked hotel in Lafayette when I was evacuating from Hurricane Ida. When I got there, I was told that Hotels.com had made the same mistake and that they were also fully booked. I had two cats in the car, had been driving for hours and hours and was physically and emotionally exhausted. ||The folks who run the hotel were SO NICE and so accommodating during one of the roughest days ever. They helped me bring my cats inside and gave them some food and water and space to use the litter box. They also gave me some snacks and some water so that I could rest for awhile and form a new plan. They called Hotels.com for me and got them to refund me for the rooms, helped find me a new room somewhere else, and gave me a gift card for a local grocery store so that I could get some more food and supplies for myself and the cats. ||Another small kindness: On the way in, one of the managers was helping me get my cats out of the car, and I was explaining that my cat's name is Doug but she's a girl because we didn't know that when we got her and the manager said "maybe Doug is just nonbinary" which was such a small but sweet joke that really let me know that I was safe there as a queer person stranded in an unfamiliar small town in Louisiana. ||Anyway, the staff at Hotel Cazan was wonderful, and if I'm ever out in that area again for any reason, that is absolutely where I will be staying. I'm so grateful to them for...
Read moreOur group (of 16) will be talking about and holding on to the wonderful memories we made in Mamou for a long time, thanks mainly to the hospitality we received at Hotel Cazan. No, as hopefully you know, it is not part of a chain of hotels and they do not hold themselves to those standards, but what they DO HOLD to is being the friendliest, most accommodating little hotel that you can ever ask for. |First, let me tell you to definitely put this little town on your bucket list. Driving there you will think you are in the middle of nowhere until the little twinkling lights of Mamou appear. The town is so small you have NO trouble getting around. The walk through town included a couple of "full of character" cafes and taverns. Not many tourists here, just locals that welcome you with all their deepest sincerity. Plan on being there |for a Saturday morning at Fred's for Cajun music that you will never forget. Everyone in every establishment that we visited was extremely friendly. |As for Hotel Cazan, their offerings were so nice. We even arranged to use their soda shop for one or gang's birthday. The staff at the Hotel helped me arrange it AND kept it a surprise as guests checked in. The rooms are small, but they are FULL of character. Valerie and Gail are the best! We will visit again! Afterall, it is about the "experience" and you won't find a more memorable...
Read moreWe are a Boutique Hotel. The perfect get away to enjoy time alone or time with family and friends! We offer free wifi and we now have Netflix in all rooms!! The hotel is within walking distance to the well known Fred's Lounge. We also do reunion Not what it used to be We stayed at the hotel this past weekend for a ladies trip. The ac in one of our rooms would not cool the room, even with the additional unit sitting in the floor. The owner came to adjust the temperature but the room still did not cool off until around 4am. The box springs are broken down and the springs in the mattresses poke you! The other room had a leaking sink. We let the owner know and she didn't seem too concerned so we placed a trashcan under the pipes to catch the water. The decor of this beautiful turn of this century hotel has been cluttered with random newspapers clippings, and thrift store junk. What was once a classy, affordable place to stay in Mamou is now unkempt and tacky. The prices have more than doubled and it's not worth the price. This morning we addressed the ac issue again and the dangerous water temperature issues in the shower with the owner and she told us to hold on a minute. While we waited she walked off to chase a stray dog, then got on her cell phone to avoid hearing our concerns. We love Mamou, but will not return to the...
