I long searched for a local hotel with a pool, hot tub, and also rooms with jacuzzi tubs. I read many reviews, looked at many pictures and decided on this hotel, hoping that it would be a nice getaway for my young son and I from our home with extended family. I was also hoping to find a hotel to re-visit a couple of times a year for the same purpose. I will not be visiting this hotel again. I think I may have visited on what was simply a bad day, but the way it was handled afterwards turned me off for good. The hotel itself appeared in pretty good shape, probably renovated not long ago. Most of the staff that I encountered were nice and friendly. My complaints are not bad when looked at individually. The phone in the room wasn't labeled properly, so it was harder to reach the front desk. The pool was too cold, the hot tub was only somewhat warm. The management can say I'm wrong about that if they want, I didn't have a thermometer on me to check, but multiple other guests stated this to me before I expressed that opinion - so I'm not the only one. Our hotel room smelled like smoke, and in my opinion it was due to the fact that people smoke outside of a side entrance that was right above a window in the room, but the smell penetrated the entire room and did not go away. The temperature in the room kept going up although I immediately turned off the heat upon entering. Both of the outside entrance doors (side and back of building) that I tried to enter were left unlocked, which as a regular traveler I find that very unusual and a safety issue. The jacuzzi tub in the room was a bit small, other Best Westerns I've stayed at in the past had jacuzzi tubs large enough to fit 2 people, this one is really a tub for one person with a weird half seat for a 2nd person. When I tried to drain the jacuzzi tub, I found that it would only drain if I held the drain open. And finally, my room overlooked the venue next door which had a party going on with very loud music that thumped throughout the room. I had spoken to other hotel guests had told me it likely wouldn't be ending until the late hours of the night. Although I was provided ear plugs when I asked for them, the noise and thumping was too great to be blocked out. During my less than 6 hour time there, the staff did attempt to accommodate my complaints by suggesting a room change, but I stated that this would not be a good option to me and that if I had to pack up everything to move to another room I might as well just go home (my son has high-functioning autism but in the past a room change caused show-stopping anxiety for him). I went to the front desk by 9:30pm and stated to the supervisor and another staff member the numerous reasons I was leaving and stated that I didn't feel I should have to pay. Neither one of the people at the desk indicated there was an issue with my statement about payment, and one of the staff acknowledged their understanding of my frustration and it seemed a resolved issue for the night, so I left. The next day, speaking to the manager I felt as if blame was placed everywhere but with Best Western. In my opinion the manager seemed as if they already had it in their mind they were right and I was wrong and they weren't going to deviate from that, as if I was trying to pull one over on them. I had a bad experience and chose not to stay - I'm not trying to game the hotel. I booked the hotel stay with an understanding that some things may be out of whack or not as expected because of COVID-19. I am a very seasoned traveler and have been in many different hotels and rooms and experienced many inconveniences over the years. I've never experienced in a hotel where a manager was so unwilling to accept any blame on behalf of the hotel. I emailed the property manager and received no response. I've stayed at Best Western hotels since I was a child and the management of this hotel has spoiled that lifelong business...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I as well as my parents stayed here this past weekend for 2 nights (Friday and Saturday). We had two standard king rooms on the second floor. Our overall experience was okay. On our first night here, my boyfriend and I were visiting my parents in their room after we got back from a concert that we had attended in Derry (they were right across the hall from us), when we realized that their TV did not work. They were getting nothing but snow. My boyfriend tried changing the input, but the TV was entirely unresponsive to the remote. My dad called down to the front desk, but nobody came to take care of this until the following morning (Saturday), so they had no TV on Friday night. Also, I must say, the TVs were quite small for such large rooms. They were also older TVs (probably over a decade old). While the rooms themselves are fairly modern, the bathrooms are quite dated and the water pressure in our shower left a lot to be desired. The shower head was just awful and I didn't like how the sink was not in the bathroom, rather right outside of the bathroom, which is super inconvenient when you get out of the shower and want to use a mirror and brush your teeth. Also, we ran out of toilet paper by Saturday morning and had no extra rolls, so we had to call the front desk to have someone bring additional rolls to our room, which there was a bit of a wait for. The continental breakfast was okay, but nothing to write home about. The eggs were a bit cold and the pastries didn't seem that fresh. Overall, our experience with this hotel was decent, at best. I will say that the location is great, which is why we chose to stay here.
UPADTE: I wanted to post an update to my review from a year ago as we just stayed at this hotel again this past weekend when we were in town for another concert. We booked a king whirlpool suite as we wanted something spacious and comfortable with a jacuzzi. The mattress was THE MOST uncomfortable mattress that either of us have slept on in a long time. It was very lumpy and it caused both of us back pain. We had difficulty sleeping because of it. Also, the coffee maker in our room did NOT work. On top of that, there was ONLY decaf coffee in the room, so we ended up having to go out for coffee. There were even bugs in the bathroom. Also, when we checked in on Friday afternoon, there was a woman checking in ahead of us and they didn't even have her room ready, and the woman at the front desk was arguing with one of the housekeepers about it, which was very unprofessional and awkward. Then, after we checked in, we couldn't find any luggage carts, so we had to make multiple trips from our third floor room to the parking lot to bring up all of our luggage. Very frustrating and deflating experience. We really would like at least a...
Read moreThe was the worst hotel that I have stayed at in my entire life. I will be taking the following complaint to Best Western Corporate. I will also be disputing the credit card charge on my Visa.
First, this hotel is shady and has long term residents who appear to be homeless or very low income. They smoke outside the hotel constantly. This smoke always got pulled into our AC unit and made our hotel room smell like a smoke shop. They also would come up to my teenage daughter and ask "if she was living here now too." I would see these "hotel guests" take their laundry into the hotel laundromat, which you obviously can't do if you are just a regular hotel guest. These people have cats (see photo below), permanent decorations, they also seem to ruin their rooms (see photo) and they make the hotel property disgusting. I took a couple of photos and attached them to this review to illustrate the point. The front desk just lies and will tell you that they are "pet friendly" and that the hotel guests are just normal guests. Nope. Not true.
Second, our room (room 302) had a toilet that would not stop running after you flushed it. I called the front desk 4 or 5 times and they would tell me that "someone was on the way." No one ever came. I would fix the toilet every night myself before we went to bed. Then the toilet would just run all day since I was not going to do this in the morning too. It was loud and annoying. And if you look at the other Google reviews for this hotel, people have complained about this problem in the EXACT SAME ROOM (302) in other reviews. The hotel never fixed the problem and just doesn't care.
Third, in the week that we stayed at this hotel, our room was cleaned ONCE. Again, I called the front desk repeatedly and was told that someone would clean the room tomorrow. They usually didn't come. The one time they did come, they folded up towels that we left on the ground and put them back up on racks. Disgusting. This is a hotel, not an AirBnB. Covid is over with. You service the rooms daily.
Fourth, starting on day 2, I was calling asking to speak to the manager. I was always told that the manager was out and that she would "call me tomorrow." She never did. We abandoned the hotel and cut our stay short.
This hotel should not be in business. Take your...
