It was my work mom 70th birthday and she wanted to experience a stay at a house rental in Terlingua for a day. I had just gotten a new drivable RV and as a new RV owner this trip was suppose to be a learning curve. I had orginally booked a stay at an RV park in Marfa TX and we booked a rental car outside the city which fell through and there were no cars available.
The house rental was non refundable and we had to figure a way to get there. The road to our overnight rental did not accommodate the RV.
We decided to book at another RV park to be closer to the house rental and figure we could just uber to the house rental. We pray to Our Heavenly Father and let Him lead us a way there. We research and found RoadRunner Travelers RV Park. Upon our arrival we were looking for an area to park and ended up calling the owner Chris for more information and explained our situation. We were stranded and not able to get to the house rental. He was very busy but was willing to see if he could find someone to help us. We also learned there was no uber as it is a small town area. As we were getting ready to see if one of the neighbor could possibly give us a ride 4 miles down the road. Chris's wife showed up and was able to offer us a ride to the rental. She explained this isn't something they normally do but she had sympathize with us as it was suppose to be a happy celebration but instead we had to stress around the circumstances we were facing. She felt compassion and was able to offer us a ride to our location. (There were 4 of us in our group) She was kind enough to explain how to hook up our RV to the connections. We were so grateful for their kindness and we were able to make it to our destination. However the next morning. We had to find a ride back to RoadRunner Travelers RV Park and again was about to go ask surrounding neighbors for a possible ride. Then another surprise ....Chris the RoadRunner Travelers RV Park owner had left work and was on his way to come pick us up to bring us back to the RV park. We quickly gather our things which thankfully we packed overnight and he patiently waited for us to load up in his Jeep. We are so thankful to the Lord to have placed such compassionate wonderful people on our pathway to help ease our stress and help us face our dilemmas.
RoadRunner Travelers RV Park was a very nice quiet place to stay at and we highly recommend this place above all places. The property is well kept. Very peaceful and beautiful!
Chris's wife was checking the park in the morning and was giving us guidance and tips of the do's and don't with RV's. I've learned so much from her and she is one of the sweetest lady we've met in the area. We will definitely be coming back to stay there when we come to experience Big Bend National park and we will be sure to bring our vehicle along with us. As we have a drivable RV. Thank you Chris and his beautiful wife for being such loving compassionate people. The world needs more of you.
We pray Our Lord Jesus Christ continue to bless you guys with wonderful people along your path. We can not thank you both enough for all of your assistance and making this more memorable for our work mom's 70th birthday! Thank you Lord for these amazing people.
Till we meet again RoadRunner Travelers RV Park!
Note: we also contacted the house rental about our vehicle situation and they didnt seem to care to offer any suggestions or assistance other then its...
Read moreDaily rate of $36 based on a two month stay. That rate seems fairly high for a monthly rate, but considering the challenges of running a park in this location, it’s ok. The biggest plus is that Big Bend NP is a very short drive from here, plus Big Bend State Park is also fairly close in the other direction. If you are a hiker, you will never run out of trails in the area – we did over 30 during our two month stay. The sites are a good size, but when not full, we all seemed to be bunched up in the same area of the park. Would have been nice to spread us all out a bit more. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring. Power is good, only going out twice over the two month stay. Water is ok, but let it run a bit when first hooking up and don’t turn it off during your stay without running it some once again. Wifi is spotty, but again, out here anything is better than nothing. Verizon was non-existent but AT&T reception was great. No obstructions for Starlink. Be prepared for dust as it will coat everything. We received about 15 minutes of rain over two months, so it won’t be washed off. The owners had great communication via email, updating us on upcoming music get-togethers. We notified them that we were expecting a package, scheduled to arrive a few days prior to our arrival. They drove over and delivered it to us immediately when we got there – we hadn’t even started setting up yet! Packages can be delivered there and will most likely be left by the garage. The Post Office also has general delivery available. They are planning on building a rest room/shower building, but it really isn’t necessary. There are plenty of more primitive campgrounds for non-self-contained units. The mountain views are great and the night sky is outstanding – if other campers abide by the dark sky rules. This brings me to why they get only 4 stars. Nothing to do with the park itself or the great owners. As always, it’s the overall experience, somewhat ruined by other campers. Lights at night, dogs barking, and worst of all, noisy, unsupervised kids running all over the place, throwing rocks and other things at each other all day. Don’t expect to sit outside and enjoy the scenery in peace – it will not happen. It’s a shame that others ruin what would have been a perfect rating for this place. A Dollar General is being build right across the street which should lessen the need for a 60-mile trip into Alpine for reasonably priced groceries. If you are staying for an extended period, and you need more than you can get at Dollar General, stock up...
Read moreGreat place to stay when visiting Big Bend National Park. The campground is neat and orderly, well-manicured with tons of beautiful cactus plants, and has activities for kids (old and young, both two- and four-legged). It's about 30-40 minutes to Big Bend visitor center and less than 10 minutes from the Terlingua Ghost Town, which is an absolute must-see attraction.
Most sites are pull-through with plenty of space between and all have a picnic table and fire pit. Check the white board located at the front of the park to verify which site you're in.
Hint...you should use the front entrance when you first get there, but after that, the rear entrance, which is about 150 feet past the front entrance, is much smoother to get in and out of.
Between the small hardware store, market, and gas station (separate stores), you can find just about anything in this little town. We needed two 8' sticks of 1"x2" pieces of wood, a bike lock, four carabiners, propane, and a few grocery items. We found it all. There's also a post office if you need to have something delivered from Amazon! All of these are within about 3 miles of the campground.
The Starlight Theater restaurant at the ghost town is a super place to grab dinner and drinks, but get there early (they open at 5) and get a spot in line because they typically have a 60-90 minute wait if you're not there early. There's a small cantina just to the right of the restaurant where you can order drinks to sip on while you wait. Try the Jalapeno Hornitos and Prickly Pear Nectar Margarita! You won't be disappointed! We got there at 4pm and had a couple of drinks waiting for the restaurant to open. To the left of the restaurant is a gift shop that has a wide variety of interesting trinkets, hats, t-shirts, etc.
On the way out, don't forget to stop at the cemetery....
