This past weekend, we had the absolute joy of celebrating our son and his fiancé's wedding at the stunning Millsite Lodge. From the moment we arrived on Friday morning, traveling from Pittsburgh, we were warmly welcomed and shown to our rooms in the Stables. Each room was delightfully themed to complement the venue’s rustic charm, and the personal touch of having our names displayed on the doors was such a thoughtful and memorable detail. The venue itself was breathtaking. Dan and Ranae worked tirelessly to ensure every aspect of the setting was perfect, and their dedication truly shone through. Our accommodations were conveniently located near the lodge kitchen, allowing us to prepare a delightful brunch for the wedding party on both Saturday and Sunday, as well as a light lunch on the wedding day. The rehearsal dinner—a comforting, delicious lasagna—was an absolute treat, setting the tone for the festivities to follow. And then, there was the enchanted doorway through the shrubs—the most magical entrance a bride could ever make. We were utterly captivated. While the weather did not cooperate for an outdoor ceremony, the staff at Millsite Lodge went above and beyond to accommodate our “Plan B,” ensuring that the celebration remained seamless and beautiful. They graciously allowed us to set up our beloved Pittsburgh Cookie Table—a tradition unfamiliar to them but one they embraced wholeheartedly—in the Lodge due to the rain. I assured them that our Pittsburgh guests would know exactly what to do with the cookies, and indeed, they did! The reception was nothing short of spectacular. The food was absolutely exquisite, earning high praise from many of our friends, several of whom claimed it was the best wedding meal they had ever enjoyed. I wholeheartedly agree. Our experience at Millsite Lodge was exceptional from beginning to end. If you are searching for the perfect wedding venue—one that blends charm, hospitality, and culinary excellence—look no further than Millsite Lodge. It truly is a place where unforgettable memories are...
Read moreI was looking for a 5 Star Bed & Breakfast Fishing Retreat or Resort where I could take my 82 year old mom as a gift in celebration of her birthday. I wanted a place that was service oriented, picturesque, family friendly (also wheelchair accessible) that included fishing. I searched long and hard because unfortunately there is not much out there that meets all the criteria I was looking for...Then I happened to stumble on Millsite Lodge Bed and Breakfast in Sandusky, Ohio. I viewed a of the lodge on Youtube. I have to say when we stayed there this past weekend for my elderly mom's birthday, the experience met our every expectation! First the ambiance is so peaceful and serene beginning with their long spruce lined driveway. Each of our rooms had a beautiful view of the countryside. It's also a haven for birds because in the morning we were pleasantly surprised to wake to a wonderful variety of birds singing and calling.. Just in the backyard of the Inn, is the trout creek which is so clear. You can see the rainbow trout swimming around. It was a bit of a push for my mom in the wheelchair but I guided her backwards and it was worth the trek. My mom and my daughter (who never fished for trout this way) had a blast fishing and the innkeeper, Horst, went out of his way to help, give pointers and make sure our every need was met. He even offers a service to clean and package all caught fish to make the stay hassle free. Of course there is an additional charge but it's worth it. Horst and his wife were so friendly! They were so hospitable but also gave us our space and privacy. They even went the extra mile to provide a room for our family to decorate a table and celebrate mom's birthday with the cake we got her...Afterwards, we stayed in very comfortable beds and were given access to the lodge lounge area after hours. In the morning, our breakfast was good & made to order which such variety and appealing presentation. When we got home, my elderly mom said that staying at the lodge was her favorite gift from her birthday. I think that...
Read moreWe found Millsite via AirBnB and rented the Homestead house for a long weekend. Beds were comfortable, Ranae was a fabulous host - personable, caring, kind and easy to talk to. Ultimately we enjoyed our stay but it was it was not without surprises or caveats.
The listing showed images of a pool table, and large living room that were implied to be part of the house. They were not. They were communal areas shared with the rest of the guests staying in other rooms/buildings. They are not connected to the house.
We did not know: The house is part of a larger resort-style facility The house does not have a living room, kitchen or dining room to fit the double digit number of people it sleeps The house does not have laundry. The house is actually pretty close to the Stables, where there are other folks staying, making it not as private as a usual home rental. The grill is shared with other guests. (account that for planning dinner) Contrary to the AirBnB listing, owners do live on site, albeit 100 yards down.
The house is strictly 6 bedrooms and 4 baths. Neither the living space or the kitchen is large enough to fit all the people it sleeps. We ate out side every meal, and thankfully the weather was superb. Had the weather been bad, we would have had a terrible experience.
For the price, we would not do it again. For the same price and number of nights, we got a house in Sullivan's Island, SC (known to be pricey) with beach front access, three living spaces, a dining room and other amenities that were of much more value.
Three stars is for the good time we had, the quality of what was there was great, and Ranae was wonderful. But we were completely misled about what...
