The hotel is nice and away from downtown mattoon. Which was nice but for some it might be a hastle. My girlfriend came to visit me and had business in town. She spends alot of money on hotels due to her work so shes seen it all. But i would have to say that things look like there going downhill fast. There was an outdoor pool. No swimming due to it being march but there was no cover on the pool and a quarter of the way was filled with green water. Our room. It was a second floor suite and it had potential. It had an open kitchen living room with a seperate room with two beds. It was pretty clean and the cleaning ladies were very nice. Maintenance in maintaining things seems to be the issue here. We stayed four days, and the trash in every single receptacle in the hotel was overflowing with trash. And it was the same trash at that. It got to the point where people were getting mad and just sitting it next to the receptacle. I took mine to the dumpster which i found out was behind the hotel wgich is a long walk to get to. It was so annoying that i almost bought trashbags and did it myself. I was told it was first shifts responsibility. But not for sure. I wish id taken a picture of it for you. The lobby, was nice and clean and the staff were super courteous. I felt that they made a very strong effort to be friendly. Thats the only reason i would come back. Our room we didnt realize had a huge leak and it looks like there going to have a huge issue here soon. Whatever the brown water is running through the ceiling, down the windows and curtains and into the ac unit. Also brought ants. And we are on the second floor. Now. To there credit, another room would've been better but let me continue. Our suite had a dishwasher that didnt work. A stove but the overhead light is dead. The fridge- Fine. The kitchen counter- clean. It came with silverware, pots, bowls and glasses. A coffeemaker, toaster and a microwave. All fine and clean. For the price i wouldnt accept or expect any of this. My girlfriend does business in mattoon on a regular basis. We're both choice privileges members and have been for a very long time. Step your game up please. Other than that, it's right next to lakeland college so it would be great for parents visiting their children...
Read moreI work myself for a hotel back home and I do understand and let a lot of things go because I understand how it can be when remolding dust get everywhere and something’s can’t be helped but mold in refrigerator and coffee pot had mold in it to so bad I had to exchange it and when did I ended up having to take it apart because of the mold in it I am sorry but I will not stay at this place ever again and don’t suggest anyone else’s to until they learn what clean is. I don’t know if they have no housekeepers and if they do they need to fire everyone of them and start over again. I got so tired of going up front to let them know about all the stuff wrong that I just cleaned room myself before we could go to bed the 1st night. We tried to use the A/C and it hadn’t been cleaned since they opened this place I had to take it off and put into tub to clean the filter and cover for it to even work. They also need to shut down pool do to the fact that the bottom of the pool has big chips out of it I k ow the rules toQuality In. And the room we had wouldn’t pass inspection if I was the owner maybe that’s what needs to happen the owner needs to stay for awhile without telling staff because if they did then maybe it would of been a better stay maybe after the remodel that the crew they hired doing it is messing up horribly and it shows we was in a room that was just remodeled and I would fire them too the owner needs to go to room 126 and take a look I left dirty towels of mold and filth on the bathroom counter just for there FYI it was a shame too because I brought my grandmother who has cancer couldn’t sleep worried she was breathing in mold and other things they said they would change us rooms and never followed up with there promise instead...
Read moreI stayed here for one night on a multi-leg week long road trip. The desk clerks I dealt with were helpful if not especially professional in their appearance or demeanor. When I first checked into my room, I found that the door did not latch properly and could be pushed open while locked. As I was walking back to the desk toting all my belongings, a concerned housekeeper noticed me and proactively asked if there was anything wrong with the room. I explained that it wasn't the fault of her or her colleagues on the housekeeping staff, and then explained about the door. She quickly asked me the room number, presumably to alert maintenance about the issue. I returned to the desk to request a different room due to the lack of security in the room I was assigned. To her credit, the clerk issued me a new room and key without protest, but also without apology for my inconvenience. In general, deferred maintenance was apparent at the property. In addition to the issue with the door on my room, an exterior door at the rear of the building had a broken door close mechanism, and the card reader on it did not work, so I had to walk around to the front of the building to get back inside. Along the way, I noticed the poor condition of the grounds and parking lot and the decaying facade of the building itself. Thanks no doubt to an effective and efficient housekeeping staff, my room was quiet and comfortable, but the poor condition of the building, apathetic desk staff, and the high price I paid to stay there left a bad taste in my mouth. If I ever return to the area, I'd likely look at staying somewhere in Effingham as the lack of rooms in Mattoon limits the value you get...
