We're so glad we decided to stay at the Inn for a few nights while on our most recent trip to Maui! We had booked a garden cottage for our anniversary stay and were delighted to have been upgraded to the honeymoon cottage on arrival. The cottage was secluded, spacious, and beautifully appointed. The staff, like the accommodations, exuded the aloha spirit - friendly, gracious, accommodating, and unpretentious - from the moment of booking through check out. Prior to arrival, we received emails with details about our stay, including check-in hours, (free) parking access and what to expect. (Tip: After coming from Paia town toward the Inn, turn left just BEFORE the entrance to the restaurant / valet parking.) ||Check-in at the office was smooth and personalized. We were escorted to our cottage and helped with our luggage. (There are no luggage carts or bellman, and most parking spaces are a short walk from the cottages, but the staff is very helpful.) The cottage decor was upscale though designed for comfort, and was accented with fresh flower petals throughout. A kissing swans towel sculpture covered with flower petals was left on the bed in honor of our anniversary - a very thoughtful touch! ||Our honeymoon cottage, the Ahi, was tucked into the back of the property, farthest from the beach (but only a few minutes walk away), down one of the artisan-crafted pathways past the office. It had high ceilings with tall windows and patio doors that let in lots of natural light, while the heavy blackout drapes kept it dark for sleeping. There was a very spacious combined living and sleeping area, with a full sofa, coffee table, end tables & lamps, smaller round table with two rattan chairs for dining-in, if desired, and an entry closet, complete with umbrellas & cooler. Off the living space and through the French doors was a large, enclosed outdoor patio equipped with a bistro table and chairs. It was surrounded by native foliage that provided partial shade and nearly blocked the view of the apartment building across the way, giving us a feeling of privacy.||There was also an upscale, well-appointed hideaway kitchenette, fully equipped with a mini-fridge/freezer, 2-burner smooth cooktop, combined microwave and convection oven, coffee maker, French press, disposal, dishwasher drawer, and all the necessary tableware, flatware, glassware, paper goods, linens, and supplies. Mama's special blend ground coffee and filtered water were provided (daily, as desired), as was the newspaper, and there was a small loaf of local banana bread awaiting us on arrival. The bathroom was enormous, with a huge, open walk-in shower, jetted soaking tub, closet, large double sink, and water closet area. It too was decorated with fresh flower petals throughout. There were plenty of towels provided, along with locally crafted soaps and other necessities. Between our cottage and the next one was a separate shared room that contained a washer and dryer (one for each of the two units), detergent, beach chairs, umbrellas, etc. - everything required for both laundry and a day at the beach. It truly felt like they had thought of everything! ||The cottages felt very private, especially at this time of year (late May/early June), despite how busy Mama's Fish House restaurant can be. The small beach was quite secluded even though one end of it opens to the front of the restaurant. A sea turtle sunbathed with us on the beach, we saw several in the water, and watched while four of them climbed onto the rocks just offshore during one of the amazing sunsets. The waves break over a barrier just before the beach, making for some stunning views, especially during sunset. That also keeps the beach is calm for bathing, although there is a rather rocky bottom, so beach shoes are recommended for wading & swimming. There are no watersports (besides snorkeling) or other loud disruptions at this quiet, peaceful beach, although there is a public beach on the other side of the tall jetty of rocks at the end of the beach, so there may be watersports available there. The public beach isn't visible from the beach at Mama's and it'd be quite a climb up and across the somewhat treacherous rocks to reach it, making it best to drive over there, if desired. ||Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Inn. It was peaceful, private, and felt more like the 'real' Hawaii of years gone by than our typical accommodations at a Kaanapali hotel or timeshare rental. Paia town is only a short drive down the road, and it too has that more traditional Hawaii vibe with its artsy shops and restaurants, although all the touristy souvenirs can be found there, too. Thank you, Mama's, for making our anniversary special! We...
Read moreWe stayed at Mamma’s Inn in a two-bedroom beachfront cottage in January 2025. Our stay was one-week of which we enjoyed dining in the restaurant both lunch and dinner on several days. For this trip we stayed in the local area and spent most of our time enjoying the tranquility and beauty of Mamma’s property. Most days there were a few Sea turtles on their private beach where we enjoyed their company in an incredible setting. The cottage was amazing! The workmanship and detail of materials used in the wonderful bathroom with walk-in shower all done artistically in stone and tile, top of the line kitchen appliances and beautiful woodwork, local art, and huge beautiful furnished Lanai with a wonderful view of the property oceanfront and a look-back view of the mountain provided a relaxing perch where we spent hours every day. The Inn office and staff were a great resource for local information. The restaurant is an incredible Tahitian-atmosphere setting with incredible art and woodwork, wonderful knowledgably fun staff, great views, freshest food, and libations. We much preferred dining at the inner bar and conversing with their bar staff. Mamma’s menu includes fresh local fish caught daily by their own fisherman, local produce and beef, and wonderful seafood they source from special places. Between my wife and I we worked our way through almost the entire menu which wasn’t easy since they were catching Opakapaka, also known as pink snapper which was so good I had trouble not having that. My wife had the Haleakala Ranch Beef Filet and I had the “Pulehu” Beef Short Rib & Lobster Tail which were both among the best beef dishes we have ever tasted. A very special dish I tried was Mama’s Bouillabaisse which I can’t wait to have again next trip. The deserts, house made ice cream and their sorbet were all wonderful. Try a Mama’s Coffee for her special treat! There is a small market a short walk away where we would pick up fresh Poke’, Hanna banana’s, local Avocado’s, fresh pressed coffee, and a six-pack of Kohloa Brewing Red Sand Amber beer, then head back to our Lanai to enjoy. We experienced an incredible thunderstorm while we were there and it snowed up on Haleakala National Park. We drove up the mountain which is s short drive from Mammas. We will spend more time up there on...
Read moreThe junior cottage “Manini” was perfect for us. The room has a comfortable queen bed, a full bathroom with a tiled shower, kitchen with everything you could possibly need, a washer/dryer (shared with another unit, but not an issue…detergent/dryer sheets included), room is prepared for the number of guests, fresh flowers everywhere, and a private parking space. The best part is two private… lovely, tranquil outdoor areas, one with a lava waterfall (shared with the locals (birds, geckos and vacationing Madagascar Geckos)).||||The owners of Inn have one of the most beautiful properties on Maui.||||Two strong recommendations:||||1. Signs indicating required distance to turtles resting on the beach (we observed multiple people stepping between their flippers to take pictures, and getting right in their faces…ignorant or uninformed). Restaurant guests need to be made aware as they were 90% of these people.||||2. Dogs were running all over with leashes attached to them, but free of their owner’s control (one dog was running all through the beach-goers and sniffing the two turtles…one dog bite...
