Hometown Inn — Hotel in Mayville

Woke up in the morning to the sounds of two female cleaning crew talking very loudly and very profanely in the hallway. Super unprofessional and disturbing. F bombs back and forth. No employees were on site when we arrived at the motel to check in after a wedding we attended (in a very small town). I was told that when the room was reserved it was pet friendly so didn’t think anything different. After checking out and returning home I noticed an extremely large charge on my credit card- when I called the gentleman at the front desk explained that staff reported seeing two dogs in and out of the room-which was untrue, because well, I only own one. Very opportunistic and unprofessional-I suppose being in a small town they don’t get a lot of business and need to steal every penny they can. The room was $90 to start with, which is pretty steep for something straight out of the 70’s. Luckily, I will never have to go back and this review probably won’t matter as it’s a motel off the beaten path. Yuck. Communication could have been better on my end......

So far not off to a good visit. We've been checked in for 30 min and the front desk already called and complained about noise because he is the one right below us. He didnt even give us a chance to get in our room and get settled in. They knew it was 2 adults and 4 kids all 8 and under arriving late at night and yet put us on 2nd floor with creaky floors and a bathroom door that doesn't shut. Funny how he was friendly at the front desk til he got my money. Was supposed to stay 3 nights but I'm not sure that will be bearable given the smell of the place combined with the rudeness of the one person I have seen here. Was not expecting this bad of a motel given its hefty price. I certainly wasn't expecting all the drunk people walking down the street screaming, especially since my 3 year old cant even walk around in the room without the front...

As my title states, I rarely stay in ma & pa hotels, which I typically define as an old private motel. But this one is the exception. It's not that old so feels like a chain hotel. Very clean. ||||I stayed in the room with the hot tub. Very large room. The bathroom is larger than my first apartment! All for under $90 (at the time of this review). ||||Wifi is simple and just like your home or office. Connect once and you won't have to reconnect again your whole stay. ||||I did not give this a 5-star review because the continental breakfast is super minimal.
