First let me start with the good. Everyone who works here is SUPER friendly, helpful and professional, especially MEL and SARAH...some of the nicest people we have ever met. It is a gorgeous location overlooking the ocean from high above. The gardens and grounds are so beautiful and the small hot tub is a lovely addition. Breakfast was delicious and homemade and large, and the extra snacks and drinks throughout the day were a nice touch.
Here is the issue. This place is not worth $350 a night! I would value the B&B at around $150 at the most. The house both inside and out is extremely worn and falling apart. Some people will call this "charm" or "quaint" but it is neither of those things. When we checked out and saw our bill for $650, I almost passed out. It made my stomach turn over.
Imagine if your grandmother was having a yard sale and put all her mismatched old furniture, pillows, rugs and sheets on the front lawn for sale. This is what the interior design looks like. it reminded me of travelling as a student throughout Europe and staying at youth hostels. The mattress was so old and lumpy and the sheets, cover and pillows must have been from the 1980's....my "shower" was exactly 18"x18" wide and put out a very small trickle of water. I wanted a hot shower so badly after driving so far.
You can hear EVERYTHING in this place. if someone flushes the toilet in the other room, you can hear it. Any talking or coughing or laughing can be heard from every room. The stairs and floors creek with every step.. please please upgrade your coffee to something better than Costco coffee. Good coffee is one of the most important items in a B&B, especially for weary travelers. Someone on the property loves taping signs everywhere. I think I counted over 100 taped signs in every wall and window throughout the property, which comes across a little cheesy and low class.
I would close this place for a month and due a total remodel and overhall. I would give this 5 stars if the price were $95-150 a night, but currently, i don't think i would go back. Needs lots of upgrades, especially for the prices they...
Read moreTwo words, whimsically divine. My Midwest mom’s dream has always been to see the Redwood trees, and I was blessed enough to make her dream come true. After researching where to stay when you go to see the Redwoods, I was pleased to come across the Lost Whale Inn. This Bed and Breakfast is one for the books. When I called to ask questions, Sarah was very helpful and knowledgeable and an absolute joy, it is very clear she loves what she does. she made my decision to book very easy, and I am so happy I did. This place is magical. Living in the Vegas nightlife, coming to stay at the Lost Whale Inn was heaven sent. It is “off the beaten path” and definitely lies on the road less traveled (be careful traveling by car on the winding roads), but it is a road worth traveling. The attention to detail was superb. The staff go above and beyond to make sure you’re accommodated to the highest level. The breakfast was SO GOOD, I have never ate as much as I have on this trip. S’mores by the ocean, warm chocolate chip cookies fresh from the oven, and the most delicious charcuterie boards with wine every afternoon. My mom and I stayed in the Egret room (every room is named after a sea animal), which I believe is the only room with more than one bed. This stay is definitely geared towards couples and romantic getaways, but rest assured that anyone can appreciate the beauty of this B&B. We truly felt like we were at home. Walking around and discovering the whimsical beauty weaved throughout the grounds was something I will never forget. “Bosco”, the cat that lives on the grounds, stole my heart by the ocean on a Sunday afternoon. This is truly a once in a lifetime experience. I cannot say enough good things, but I will let the pictures speak for themselves. Thank you to the Lost Whale Inn for helping my mom and I make memories we will...
Read moreMy husband and I consider ourselves B&B connoisseurs, and WOW, this place tops the list for best places we’ve ever stayed. Where do I begin? The Location: The Lost Whale is in the perfect location. Easy to find/get to, on a quiet, beautiful street just a few minutes from the adorable little town of Trinidad. Also, Patrick’s Point State Park is walking distance! Definitely make a stop there if you can! This B&B offers a private beach (it’s a steep hike, but totally worth it!), a fire pit, a hot tub we used every night after our hikes, a sauna, and more. The Room: We payed a bit extra to stay in the Orca Room, and it was definitely worth it. Good size, comfortable queen-sized bed, complimentary robes, private balcony with one of the most gorgeous views I’ve ever seen. Not all the rooms have a private balcony, and that was a huge perk for us. The Food: This place could be it’s own 4 star restaurant! The chef there is a hidden gem. We had some of the most delicious, unique meals. Quiches, cakes, casseroles, eggs, fruit, and more every single morning. Free hors d’oeuvres every afternoon including meats, cheeses, veggies, and fruits. Free coffee, tea, and drinks 24/7. The supper time meals were all incredible, something different every night, with your choice of dessert on a small menu. (I believe complimentary dinners are a seasonal thing, not a year-around perk. Check with the staff when you book.) The staff were all incredibly attentive and friendly. They kept the coffee fresh, our room sparkling, and they offered great suggestions for area restaurants and attractions. We stayed in this amazing place for 6 nights, and it was worth every single penny. Our time here will always be an amazing memory. We hope to go...
