David and I got the privilege to spend some time this weekend with Cynthia at Mentone Inn Bed and Breakfast, and oh my soul, what a treat!
I love historic places and delicious food, and from the time we stepped through the door, my heart was captured by the sights (and smells). I was surrounded by 1927 and cinnamon and apples!! Cynthia had baked homemade apple turnovers from organic Granny Smith apples, apple juice and brown sugar.
We had coffee, yummy sausage, hash brown casserole and finally that apple turnover we’ve heard about…I’ve never had one more delicious, and I’ve traveled and had some of the best.
THE innkeeper took us on a tour of this amazing place, and if walls could talk, the stories they would share of the many memories made here. The fun thing is that the most amazing innkeeper, who lives in the Inn, is able to share so many stories about the Inn and does so week after week, month after month, year after year, as if it’s her first time with joy and passion. This innkeeper doesn’t just run Mentone Inn from her smart business sense and mind. She truly runs it 100% from the love in her heart for her guests…and for Mentone Inn.

Read moreMy wife and I went up to Mentone just for the day. Just wanted to take a nice drive. Got a fantastic lunch at the Fontastic lunch truck. While sitting there enjoying our food I noticed the Mentone Inn. Beautiful home with wrap around porch and rockers. Walked up and let myself into the inn and entered this cozy home with couches and a TV. I asked around to the people sitting around who I would talk to about getting a room. Cynthia, they said, is who you need to speak to and her number was on a card or she would be around soon. I was so intrigued with the place I really wanted to stay for the night. I called the number and left a message. Walked back to the food truck and someone mentioned that the women running the truck was the daughters to the Owner of the inn. Stuck my head in the truck and asked if they had room in the inn. Hanna said she would check and the next thing I know is we have a comfortable clean room. Just a little blessing in my life to have spontaneously found such nice people and place. Well worth the trip. Wish I could give more...
Read moreWe usually stay in hotels but we didn't find one around the area that we liked. We were super glad to stay at this quaint Bed and Breakfast though.||||There is a little gravel parking lot beside it and we appreciated the lights to see at night. There was not much traffic on the road during the night but it seemed to pick up in the morning.||||I was thinking there would be more to do right around the area and more to walk to see, but there were plenty of beautiful natural attractions within a nice drive, such as DeSoto Falls and Little River Canyon. There is a small park a few blocks away called Brow Park that has amazing views. The Inn is actually on top of a mountain, so the roads and few walkways are tight.||||The Inn feels like a step back in time yet was still so clean. It offered WiFi and had one TV in the living room. I thought the bed was comfortable and am glad the pillows were cotton. It was decorated very much in a vintage and antique style, so be sure you aren't looking for super modern.||||I really appreciated the quaintness...
