MMA, a military academy for kids grade 6-to-12, I believe is here in Mexico, MO, (Pop. 11,000) and when there is a visiting day for family it gets crowded. Recently we stayed here at the Best Western. I do not like to give anyone less than favorable reviews, because These are essential workers, and I appreciate them all. It is impossible to keep fully staffed if you do not pay double minimum wage. It is not possible to pay rent and eat for a family, if parents make $10/hr each. Poverty is real, it’s how I grew up in the 1960s, and you never forget about it. I appreciate the friendly staff at Best Western, but I would not recommend staying there—spend more & drive further, if necessary. We bought a room deodorizer at Walmart, and left it under the sink in the bathroom. As soon as we opened the bathroom door after check-in, there was an odor that I knew was not going anywhere during our stay. A sewer type of smell, not caused by the toilet not being flushed, it was something more difficult to fix, I suspect. The deodorizer, and keeping the door closed made it possible to stay there two nights. It is not really possible to enjoy the free breakfast in the mornings. There are something like 100 guests to 10 seats, somewhere in that ratio. Maybe there are 20 seats; I don’t know, counting the lobby—it is one big room. If they made it into one larger dining room, it could work better. The coffee is good and black—brewed by the cup I believe. I was touching elbows with a couple other people when I got a cup during the morning rush one time, but I said, excuse me, when I reached, and we were all polite to each other, so no problem there. I think there were one or two busloads of youngsters playing team sports in the building the same time we stayed. We’re not old & grouchy about it—we love our loud crazy grandkids. But my wife called the front desk one time, when we were trying to sleep the night before an early-morning event. It seemed like we were beneath a full sized bowling alley. I don’t know how you would make that level of noise, besides repeatedly standing on the bed and jumping onto the floor…practicing football plays? maybe?

I have stayed in several different hotels and inns in the last few years, and I can honestly say this has been one of my most pleasant experiences. We arrived around 1 am, without a reservation, and Jeff, the hotel clerk was so nice and accommodating. We were road weary and just wanted to take a shower and go to bed. The price was a bit over $100 per night, but well worth it. He processed us very quickly and made us feel very welcome. The room we received was on the 2nd floor, which was fine for us. The room was spacious and very clean and even smelled nice upon entering. The bed was just the right firmness, too, much to my delight. The shower was easy to use with plenty of hot water. It, too, was super clean and smelled nice. Sometimes, the rooms are pretty musty smelling, but not this one, again, to my delight. We had a good night's rest, and because we were so happy with our room and the nice little free breakfast in the morning that we decided to stay another night. Which was no problem for the day shift clerk. I paid with my card, and we went on to Centralia to visit family, and upon our return, the room had been cleaned and restocked with fresh toiletries and towels. Very nice service Best Western. When we checked out, we again were greeted very warmly. The next time we're in Mexico, Missouri, we will definitely stay here again. All in all, a big thumbs up! There is also an indoor pool and fitness center that neither of us utilized this visit, but maybe next time we'll remember our bathing suits and have a swim. It looked very refreshing and also very clean, much like the room we stayed in. Do yourself a favor and spend a few dollars more for a great experience. I'm sure glad we did. But really, for a bit over $100, I felt safe and...
