The site was very nice, but unfortunately our overall experience was less than impressive.

First of all, when we arrived, around 9PM, the lady at the front told us just to go to the campsite and check in in the morning. That's fine, but she did not show us where our site was or even if we could get back in after the gate closed. This caused us to have to rush to find our site, which was a pain because there is essentially no signage, and then we had not eaten so we hurried to get food so we could get back before the gate closed. Turns out, you can easily get in after 10PM, but we didn't know that because the staff didn't bother to tell us.

Second, the grounds are not maintained that well. We had to walk through tall grass to get to the bath house, which got old especially in the middle of the night.

Third, the bath house experience is the worst I've ever had. They have individual showers, which were clean, but the layout stinks. There is no sink, so you'll have to go to the restroom part if you need that for anything. You'd better wear body armor during you shower because the water pressure will rip a hole right through you. In fact, the pressure is so hard that it spurts outside of the entire shower, so when you get our the floor is soaking wet all over.

It's really a shame because the location is great and views throughout the campsite are beautiful overlooking the river. There is so much potential, but better service by the staff and updates in the bath houses will have to be made before I think...

The park and primitive campsite (#504, right by water and the furthest from other sites) was very nice and I was lucky to get the only spot left last minute. I'm taking a star off because the ONE bathhouse /restroom for the 'primitive area' had: only one shower (4 hooks, wet bench, standing water at the changing end) , no hooks in the bathroom stalls (and I couldn't finagle my straps over a door corner, either .. hung my bag in the shower which was luckily unoccupied), only one stall usable (one locked from within /out of service? another stall with out a working lock or anyway to keep the door even closed. I kind of expected a little better . And it's really the LACK OF HOOKS that bums me out the most, and just seems dumb. Are there no women on staff to advise.? :-)

Took a second star off for the online reservations system (accessed via my android), which kindly defaulted to today's date (suited me) but did not provide a list of the sites available on that date. I literally had to click on each individual site (maybe 30 listed for my filter) and scroll down to see the red banner noting the site was not available. Did I miss a menu option? Is there an "available - site - list - for - given-date" function someplace else? Maybe the function is there and works for some browsers but not others? Thanks for listening ...

Site 225: We enjoyed our time here, mostly because we were at the end of the island and had very quiet neighbors. The lake is beautiful and honestly, any site on the island i think would be a good spot. The spots closer to the Ranger Station, are just packed too tight for us. The lake level was a little low because of winter pool, but the lake was still beautiful and even more walkable. Our spot had descent wifi provided by the campground. The electric pole and water spigot were very new and worked as expected. The website said our spot was level, it is NOT but it wasn't too bad. The tongue of our trailer was only about 8 inches off the ground when we finally got it level. While i totally understand the check in time is 2, i've never been to a campground that wouldn't allow you in (within reason) if you got there a little early. That said, it did warn us not to get there early on the website. We got there 20 minutes early, trying to beat the rain and they made us wait til 2 to checkin. I do think it could be a better park if they updated the bathroom by the graveyard and made a few other improvements but i do think they're working on it. I did like having a park trash can beside each site. The picnic table was in nice shape as was the grill and the whole outdoor area at our site. We would definitely consider...

Chester Frost park located in Hixon TN. Is an excellent place to spend a day or an entire weekend. Whether you just there for a day of picnicking, or camping for a few days. The place has plenty to offer. Beautiful and serene lake where to practice all your water activities like swimming. Kayaking, jet skiing, paddle boarding, canoeing, or just getting your feet wet. There's a beach area for the little ones, or you could just choose a shady spot, and throw your blanket, set your camping chairs, and access the lake from there. There's also some picnic tables spread out, and a pavilion for large gathering. There are bathrooms available as well, and plenty of parking. There also in front of the beach. A concession store, and boat rental place. And lastly but no least. Chester Frost park is the base for Nooga Splash obstacle water park, where the kids can have plenty of fun for one hour, or more depending on the package you buy. So if you didn't know this. Make plans, and head out to there this weekend. You'd enjoy it

I was told about this place by a friend (I'm new here). I went to check it out and was thoroughly impressed! What a beautiful place! It was so calming and peaceful with wonderful views. I'm always looking for new places to take sunset pictures. This place has so many different things I could use for my photography. I arrived just before the sun sank behind the mountains. I hopped out of my car and quickly started taking pictures of the beauty mother nature had in store for me to find. I'll definitely be going back. There is a playground right at the water where there is a beach! A little beach! I've always lived by the beach. So, when I saw the little beach, I got so excited. They even have camping, boat ramps, and docks. I did also see bathrooms in different areas making it more convenient for people. I can't wait to go back!
