I hardly ever leave negative reviews because I understand that everyone is trying their best but my October 2024 stay was easily one of the most frustrating and disappointing experiences I’ve ever had in a hotel and I am just so unimpressed I need to share a more realistic experience.
To start, parking for our unit was not convenient and we had to drag our luggage across a gravel pit. Later, we realized the room we had been reassigned days before (despite, according to staff, we had been assigned a different room but needed to be moved to accommodate another reservation...it's giving "disorganized"), had no individual temperature control. After settling in the "lodge" where we were assigned, we went out for the night. Upon returning from a nearby welcome party for a wedding we were attending, the room was extremely, and uncomfortably, warm. We were told by the maintenance staff person that the entire building is on one system and that there were no fans available on the property for us to use to mitigate the problem. (Note: One was provided to us the next day for the second night of our stay.)
The next day, when the keyless entry system stopped working after 11:15 PM the following night, we were locked out of our room. Instead of immediate assistance, the hotel staff responded from their messaging system with a lack of urgency that was astounding (someone would be calling us back with a new code). After several minutes of standing outside, I called back only to leave another voicemail requesting assistance. We received a call from another staff person who had to provide two different codes until we were able to gain access to our room. This is completely unacceptable, especially at such a late hour when any guest would reasonably expect prompt action. (What if it was cold outside or we had a small child in our party and had no way of getting in?)
Based on our conversations with the maintenance staff person on night 1, it seems that East Island is one of two properties maintained by the same team, who are either underprepared, overwhelmed or both. I take no comfort in reading others' reviews where the accommodation's lengthy responses reiterate facts. Guests know what occurred during their stay, we don't need to be lectured and relive negative experiences and I would suggest East Island that their contact-free systems to minimize their interactions with guests is not as efficient as they would like it to be. Instead of responding to this review, I would encourage them to take that time and put it towards rectifying guests' challenges instead. Next time we are local we will forgo proximity and stay closer to downtown where staff seem more experienced, organized and understand that convenience and satisfaction for guests is paramount to whatever streamlined and contact-free experience East Island is trying to create.
Pros: Quiet, shower/ water pressure. Cons: Overall guest experience and...
Read moreReview of My Stay at East Island Reserve Hotel, I take reviews very serieus and review many stays, so I took my time to write this one.||I recently stayed at this hotel, and unfortunately, my experience left much to be desired. To be fair, the hotel was very clean, but the overall stay was far from comfortable or pleasant.||Upon arrival, we encountered several issues that made us question our decision. The first night was particularly uncomfortable. We could clearly hear disturbing noises from both rooms next to ours, where guests were engaging in very loud and adult activities. To make matters worse, the individuals involved were not couples, and they left in different cars and one stayed the night when others did not, which added to the unsettling atmosphere.||The customer service experience was equally disappointing. The office lady called me, expressing frustration over a car parked in my designated spot. However, the car did not belong to me; it was from one of the visitors of the other guests. She was already angry and accusatory before I had the chance to explain the situation, which felt extremely unprofessional.||The worst part of the experience came when I checked out. I was fined $250 after the hotel management claimed they found a vape in my trash. I had disposed of a broken vape and never smoked on the property, yet I was penalized without any prior warning or opportunity to clarify the situation. The staff member who spoke to me was rude, and when I attempted to explain, she dismissed my concerns and made an inappropriate comment, saying "you Europeans," (my family lives in Rhode Island) which felt uncalled for. ||Despite these issues, we attempted to cancel the remainder of our stay, but the management refused, and we were forced to stay in a room where we could hear other guests' loud activities every night. The hotel charges an additional $30 per night for housekeeping, which I found excessive, especially given that the rooms were not cleaned during our stay. Additionally, the kitchen in our room only had a fridge and sink, which I found rather inconvenient.||While the hotel was clean and had basic amenities, the overall experience was marred by poor customer service, a lack of proper noise insulation, and unprofessional handling of my concerns. I do not feel that this stay was worth the price, and I would not recommend this hotel to others. There are certainly better options for those looking for a peaceful and respectful stay within...
