This is the best private campground I’ve been too. I stayed over a week in a tent. The employees are very friendly and helpful – the kind of guest-focused service one rarely sees these days. I had a reservation but due to a change of plans arrived a day later than expected. They didn’t charge me for the last-minute change. Upon arrival at the office to check in I was greeted by one of the employees and she personally showed me to my tent site. Darrell, another great employee, was very helpful with questions and requests like delivering firewood, and just being all-around friendly.
It can get busy/crowded during high season (I was there late May through early June), but the other guests were respectful and quiet at night. As with these kinds of campgrounds there is not a lot of space and privacy between sites, but people are creative about using their vehicles to create some privacy. Also, there are lots of trees that provide good shade depending on the time of day. Picnic table and fire ring at each site. Tent sites do not have their own designated water sources (spigots), but they are all very close to RV sites that do, and I was always able to find an empty RV site to fill up my gallon water jug. Many port-a-potties spread around the campground, so you never have to walk far for a toilet, and they are cleaned and maintained. Wifi/phone signal is strong. Shower house is convenient and clean. Bring quarters for showers - $.50 for about four minutes. Dogs are welcome. Restaurant next to campground is convenient; good food and it’s a busy place, especially on weekends. As to comments about noise from the train and the road, it is true I could hear both at night, but it was not terrible. (I’m in a tent in a campground; I expect to hear some noise so I bring earplugs.) I give them five stars for doing great at the things that are in their control. If you are looking for a wilderness camping experience with no one around and no road noises, etc. this is not that...
Read moreThis is such a nice campground! The bathrooms and showers are super clean and very spacious. The spot that we stayed at with our RV was super roomy. There was plenty of space for us to play games such as corn hole. It did get busy with other RV campers but we never felt crammed or stacked on top of one another. They did a great job with spacing. They have a few sand volleyball courts, corn hole, horse shoes I believe a rink for winter, a basketball court, and I believe two or three baseball fields with concessions. The restaurant and bar is very large and the patio is huge! Definitely stop in and grab a bite to eat and a few drinks. I recommend sitting on the patio. They also sell super cute apparel. There is a banquet facility next to the restaurant that you can rent out for large gatherings and an overflow parking lot. The campground is about 15-20 minutes outside of Duluth so you’re not camping near all of the hustle and bustle and its just a short drive to all of the attractions in Duluth. The staff was extremely accommodating and the price was very fair! The only downside is it seems there aren’t very many full hookup spots. We did have water and electric but no sewer. They do have a dump station by the restaurant but it was a hassle packing up the camper, driving up the to dump, driving back down, and setting back up. However, like I said above they have showers and bathrooms by the restaurant so that helped not fill our tanks so quickly. They also have VERY clean porta potties all over so you don’t have to drive up to the bathrooms if you’re tent camping or not wanting to fill your tank. There are fire pits at each sight and they deliver wood to you. There are some walking trails and a pond that you can explore.
With all of that being said this was a very very nice campground and we will definitely be...
Read moreGreat campground with very hospital management. We stayed in the week leading up to 4th of July so of course the campground was pretty much full but everything is kept so clean and well-maintained and just nice overall. The managers are very friendly and hospitable and were quick to help us out when we had a couple issues. Love the on-site restaurant and bar....some of the best food we've had in a long time. The rolls were so fresh and obviously homemade and the vegetarian burger is the best we've ever had...great flavor and consistency and not overly salted like most of them tend to be. Also great fish, enjoyed both the salmon and the walleye. And to top it all of they had a GREAT fireworks show on the Saturday of 4th of July weekend that was included with registration (essentially free). My family absolutely loved the show and really capped off a great stay here. Also we really loved using the Munger state trail for our family walks, scooter rides for the kids and bike rides. Some really fun singletrack nearby if you have mountain bikes too, less than 2mi from the campground. Overall we loved our stay here and will stay again when we get back to Duluth....
