The hotel was very clean and the staff was super friendly. But the problems we had were these.....
The turn down service does things only halfway. After we left to tour the town, the turn down service came in and took the dirty towels but did not leave any clean towels, or rags, or toilet paper, or coffee, and did not touch the beds at all.
We found out we had to leave a day early (work related, could not be avoided). I went downstairs to retrieve a luggage caddy so we could take our things to our car, including a case or bottled water. There were no luggage caddies in the the entry way. I saw one in the common area of the lobby surrounded by several men drinking. When I asked the clerk if there any more, I was told that the men in the lobby still have their beer sitting on it. And she apologized.
So, I would not recommend this hotel to anyone who plans on staying more than one night (since we had to request towels for another night of showering) and who have intentions of using the beer caddy for their luggage since transporting beer seems to be the purpose of the caddies and the clerks seem to support this.
I am giving this hotel 1 star because I feel the staff, even though they were super friendly and did appear and act professional, need to get their priorities concerning the guests straight.
In response.....
There was not a do not disturb sign hanging on the door. When we left for the day, I made sure the do not disturb sign was hanging inside the room. I do understand hotel etiquette. When we returned, and I called the front desk clerk, I was looking at the sign hanging inside the room, where, I know for certain, it had been hanging since we left. And even if the do not disturb sign was hanging on the outside of the door, why did the turndown service come into the room and take just the dirty towels? Why else were they in the room? And yes, the clerk did bring the towels to the room. After I asked for them.
As for the luggage carts, I understand they are for all guest. However, there was no transporting being done. The men in the lobby were using it to hold their beer, and they were sitting down conversating. They were not using the cart to transport anyting. It was just there to hold their beer. As per your clerk, "I'm sorry, their beer is still sitting on it." And the men were sitting around it.
And then I'm told , "I didn't realize you need it." Why did I come down to the lobby and explain my situation and ask for a cart? Because one was needed. To tranport luggage more easily. I thought that was clear when I asked for the cart.
I known we can't change the past. But I would like to point out that I've already talked to the clerk on duty at the time and no matter how many times you want to point the finger at me and tell me I'm wrong, it won't stick. I know for a fact there was no do not disturb sign on the outside of the door, and I know it looked like a frat house party in the lobby when I left. So, the only thing I can do is not stay there again. This was my second visit to Mineral Wells in a month. I like visiting the town but that's also a lot of hotel stays Red Lion will...
Read moreI’m an old truck driver, been on the road longer than some folks have been alive. These days I’m doing hot shot runs, and I pulled into Mineral Wells looking for a clean place to get some laundry done and catch a decent night’s sleep. Stopped in at the Red Lion and figured, from the look of the packed lobby middle aged couples, travel partners, and folks coming in and out it might be a mess. But it wasn’t. The young lady at the front desk, Mikelyn (hope I spelled that right), had that whole lobby in the palm of her hand. She was handling guests left and right laughing, making folks feel welcome, and somehow keeping her cool even when problems started popping up. One woman was raising a fuss about a reservation. I don’t know all the details, but I do know Mikelyn found the issue and smoothed it out so good that lady turned from a “Karen” into a kitten. Between people needing towels, complaining about keys or rooms, and new guests checking in, Mikelyn stayed calm, kind, and quick. I was standing back just watching, and I was impressed. When it was my turn, she greeted me with a smile, cracked a few jokes, and stayed professional the whole way through. Later, I came down for quarters to do laundry, and she warned me the dryer acts up sometimes. Told me if I brought my clothes down, she’d dry ’em for me. And she did. And then delivered them to my room. You don’t see that kind of customer service much anymore, especially from younger folks. Mikelyn’s the kind of employee any business would be lucky to have friendly, fast, and funny, all while keeping the place running smooth. She made an old road dog like me feel welcome. She deserves some recognition, no doubt about it. Yall got my business for life. – A...
Read morePROs: The staff were ALL VERY NICE and polite. Other than what I mention below - the rooms were clean. CONS: SECURITY! SECURITY: When I brought to the attention of the staff a gentleman who appeared to be a homeless person sleeping in the indentation in the hallway for the two room doors next door to mine, they did nothing. I was told by the gentleman at the desk that he's probably a relative waiting on someone; but when asked they admitted there was no one in the rooms (next to mine) where the guy was sleeping on the 2nd floor. Later, I informed them the same gentleman was in the parking lot sitting on the parking lot curb in the back of car (out of sight). OTHER CONS: There were two half-rolls of toilet paper (one which had been wet/water-stained by previous customer) in our bathroom upon arrival. Maid remedied this as so as asked. There was food left overs (restaurant to-go style Styrofoam with partially eaten food) in the room refrigerator from the previous customer when we arrived. Much of the grout on bathroom floor is missing; therefore between floor cracks unable to be reached by a mop. I suspect all nasty material (see picture - tampon string?) and bacteria from all human & other waste that his the floor remains for us to walk on barefoot. There were ants in the grout. Bowed shower curtain partially pulled away from the wall on one side resulting in a U-shape bow instead of parallel to the floor, causing shower curtain to drop to the center of the rod leaving sides open when showering. Unable to shower with a closed curtain. Desk phone did not work (phone by the bed did). No clock in the room (is this normal today...
