Dave's East Side Motel & Cabins — Hotel in Mobridge

My friend R., touring by bike between Seattle and Fargo, ND, had a reservation here. He got to the hotel at 6:30 PM, and it was closed. He called the number on the door and was told which room was his. While he was opening his room he leaned his bike on a coffee table that had a coffee mug on top. Unfortunately the table fell over and the coffee was spilled. He righted the table, put the unbroken mug back on top, but there was coffee spilled on the floor. Dave, the motel owner showed at that time and R. apologized profusely for the accident. Dave simply said "get your stuff and get out of here". No listening to apologies, or discussion. While he's getting ready to leave the police shows up, which Dave evidently called. After a few words they understand that there is nothing going except an over-reacting motel owner, who couldn't find it in his heart to be hospitable to a biker who really needed a room after a 100 miles on the bike. R. is 74 years old, and the kindest person I know. We've traveled together for years, and he is the one who thinks about the underpaid room maids, and always leaves a tip for them. He tries to minimize any impact from his use of the room, and would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. To be treated this way reveals the kind of individual Dave is and I would caution anyone to use...
