We had an extended family vacation gathering in one of their family poolside cabins. It consists of two of the motel room cabins and two of the full kitchen cabins all connected. We liked the fact that the space allowed for all 15 of us to be together. We also enjoyed the pool and thought it was pretty clean. That is about where our enjoyment of this cabin ends.
The cabins just really need more attention paid to their cleaning. The carpets are very worn, dirty and holes in spots. The mattresses must be very old as you can feel the coils in them when you lay down and you roll to whatever side of the bed is more worn. Thus, we did not get a very good night sleep. The kitchens are a mix and match of dishes, utensils, and cookware. I am so glad that we had brought sturdy paper plates to eat a majority of our meals from. I am not sure if there would have been enough dishes for everyone. Also, although the family cabin sleeps 20, there is only seating around the two kitchen tables to seat 8. It would be a more practical use of space to get rid of one of the beds that is out in the middle of the kitchen/living area and replace it with a larger table. As another reviewer stated, the towels are not big enough to fit around even our elementary school age children and they were thin and scratchy like sandpaper. The sheets were very thin and barely covered the mattress with no mattress pad of any sort. Another big complaint is that there were soooo many flies and gnats and flying insects around the cabin all the time. One night when we stepped out for a moment it looked like a swarm of bugs came rushing in. They proceeded to hang out on the ceiling all night long....at least 100 of them...we tried to swat at them and it left bug stains on the ceiling (which I doubt will be wiped off) and in the morning we found the bathtub littered with all the bugs that made their way to the light we had left on in there through the night. YUCK! If you can get past all of the things I described, feel free to stay here for the close location to the lake and fun pool time, but be aware that this is no Holiday Inn. Compared to other places our extended family has stayed for vacations, the price they charge seems high for what you are getting. Not worth the cost in...
Read moreThis is a critical review, but from a 5 year in a row, happy customer. The folks at Cannon Dam Cabins are friendly and treat you well. We always rent the 2 bedroom cabins for around $100/night.
I hope CDC owners will take some initiative and get their place up to the next level. The cabins are okay, and are probably 10 years old, somewhat new construction. Better and cleaner than the cabins at the Landing, but the cabins need to be more thoroughly cleaned. They have an odor that is hard to describe. The kitchens need to be stocked with a complete set of basic utensils, pans, plates, cups, etc. Not a lot but enough to support the guests the cabin says it will sleep.
My biggest complaint is that the grass is always ridiculously long and the grounds have terrible drainage! When it rains the whole place is ankle deep water. The place isnt very big, so we cant understand why they don't put a little more effort into the grounds between the cabins. In addition to the pool, there's a nice play area for little kids too. We always have a great time despite any short comings of the location. The store is awesome. They have a little of everything bacon, eggs, milk, juice, and a few other grocery items. Would i recomend staying here? Yes, just dont think you are staying at a Ramada. The accomodations are more like Econolodge suites if there was...
Read moreWe stayed in these cabins the weekend of May 11-13, 2018. We thought the experience was great, we even told the lady at check-out that we would be coming back for sure! We had a hard time finding the cabins at first, but that was due to poor service and poor planning on our end. The staff was very friendly, the cabins were fully stocked as they said that they would be. Yes, as other reviews stated the towels were a little small, but bring your own and you will be fine. The beds are as comfortable as they can be. The cabins were clean, I mean we are "camping" so what would you expect? They do allow pets, but no one seemed to bring any that were disorderly, we brought ours also. The cashiers in the store were always friendly with smiling faces and the walk from the cabins to the store is extremely convenient. I am not sure that their private lake actually has any fish in it, but we were there for Mark Twain and a nice weekend away so their lake was only an added bonus! Overall, our experience was definitely 5 star and we will most definitely be back with our family!! Thank you...
