Allerton Mansion — Hotel in Monticello

The mansion and the gardens have a unique style. One of the gardens have sculptures of small creatures playing instruments, there is a few of these in the library too. Another garden display sculptures of some sort of dog cat creatures. I found these are Fu dog statues (?). There are restrooms in the mansion near the library and also across the cafe. Outside restrooms are also found near the mansion. The restrooms in the mansion are small but clean. There is a big parking lot by the mansion and a small one across the cafe. This Christmas season there was a display of lights and ornaments in the gardens sponsored by Kirby clinic. About once per month there are yoga classes, beginners level, donating based in the library during winter and in the large grass area by the cafe during warmer months. Myself and 2 family members visited this past weekend to attend a wedding. We stayed in Evergreen Lodge which was described as "rustic". It was, indeed rustic, however, last time I looked up rustic, the meaning wasn't "really dirty". When we opened the door, the overwhelming smell of musty mixed with some kind of pine mop water hit us in the face. Opened the windows to air it out and there were so many dead bugs and crud on the sills that I reclosed 2 of them. Then the hairy soap in the shower had to be disposed of. Due time constraints and the money factor, we remained, but will never be back. Hopefully guests to the mansion got better treatment. When I mentioned the need for cleaning on check out, all I got was, "okay, I'll let them know". Disappointing showing for...

Haven't stayed here just yet! My best friend and I plan to most definitely this place is absolutely beautiful on the outside 😍 . My best friend and I did get a little sneak peak on the inside of the bottom floor and my goodness I have never seen such a beautiful place until today.
