I have been coming to Bantam Lake since I was younger....almost 35 years!!! Been camping at Point Folly for twenty plus years since getting out of the Marines, and look forward to getting up there camping every year....multiple times. Have hosted large Veteran's and Family outings there for years and couldn't ask for a better place!!! Not a huge fan of campgrounds that have all the bells and whistles and pack everyone in like rats-----I feel people build more friendly and family bonds in a place like this!! It is "Rustic" camping but we have learned through the years how to 5 star camp!!! The staff are wonderful and stay on top of the upkeep of the sites and area. The regulars that go here are great, and really have formed a close bond through the years, and really look out for each other and are quick to give a hand when someone is in need of a little help!!! The greatest part of the camping experience here is by far Bantam Lake surrounds you!!! Nature abounds as it is part of the White Memorial Conservation Preserve, and you can see birds and wildlife you wouldn't normally see --------yes even some big ole black bears at times!!! There are beautiful birds and cute critters and even some very large fish and some very large reptiles.....not for the squeamish ---------but fascinating to see in their natural habitat!!! It makes camping that much more like camping of yesteryear!!! Here are what may be detractors for those that come here thinking they are camping in one of those cookie cutter campgrounds-------------the bathrooms are outhouse style with pit toilets, no showers, no hookups for power and water, no gameroom, no bar, no mini golf, no horseshoes,no reserving sites on line or over the phone, you have to go there and pick out a site and see if its available ------do you get the picture-----it's rustic--------and for those of us that have made it part of our summer lives, it's perfect!!! While you're there ------ keep an eye on the sky-------you never know what you may see hovering over the lake, zigzagging across the sky, or falling into the lake!!! And Beware the "Bantam...

WARNING TO THOSE LOOKING TO RELAX. Worst camping trip to date! My wife booked two nights, 07/13/24, 07/14/24. The first night, the group to our left ( about 10 middle aged adults) stayed up, and kept us up until 1:30 am yelling and acting like drunk fools! I was going to leave in the am, but the group packed up the next morning and left. Well, a new group came in ( three adult males, 2 adult females, teenagers and young kids) and set up across the dirt road from us. After it got dark, they didn't disappoint, and actually outdid the group from the night before. This group stayed up (and kept us up) until 3:30am yelling, screaming, and carrying on like a bunch of drunk frat boys. They were WT to the highest! To top it off, we got to witness one of the group vomiting in the dirt road in front of our site. This campground used to be a nice place to camp and relax. We are local and had come here with our kids when they were younger....

the cons. the campsites are full of rocks and roots . Couldn't walk with out tripping on a root or stubbing a toe. The bathrooms are pit toilets and the smell is so bad you need to hold your breath or you will gag. You can smell them from 20 feet away. There is no water at the bathrooms to wash your hands. My site had 5 fish hooks on the ground thankfully the dogs did not get one in a paw. The campers next to us we loud until after 2 in the morning then where up and noisy by 7 in the morning every day, on top of their dog barking or winning most of the day. It was so bad that two family left 2 days earlier because they couldn't take it. pro. the lake is nice. nobody seams to car what you do so if you want to be left alone it is...

Great camping area! We were last here over 30 years ago and were pleased to see that things have remained as undeveloped as ever. Beautiful area with sites all along the peninsula - most sites seem to be shaded & are fairly level. Water spigots & rest rooms are located throughout the sites. A dump site is also available. Great spots to cast a line to try your hand at fishing. If you're looking for a peaceful area, then this is the place for you!

Very rustic camp ground on Bantam Lake in Bantam, CT. Members and their friends in our group enjoyed the breeze off the lake. Outhouse is only building on the campground. Camp store/office are located across the street from the marina. Membership in White Memorial Foundation is required to reserve site.
