The motel front lobby had a nice setup upon arrival along with a simple check in process. Unfortunately we were not met with the same hospitality or friendly face at time of departure. My sister, husband, our son, and I traveled to WhiteCloud, KS for a ceremonial Native American event. My husband and son had planned to camp with our family at the event while my sister and I were going to stay at the motel. Due to a long day in the heat and being overtired our son started to feel ill. We decided to have my husband and our son go ahead and stay in the room. We arrived back at the room at 3am and did not want to disturb the owner at the hour of the early morning. Before checking out we began to load the car with our luggage and the owner came out very aggressive and approached us in a disrespectful manner about the two extras staying in the room. Before allowing me to calmly explain the sudden change of our plans and pay for the two extra persons stay, he escalated the situation by yelling. To the point our son began crying out of fear of what the man might do. I politely asked the owner “can you please refrain from yelling as our son is crying and scared due to your behavior?” Which he yelled “I don’t care!” We had absolutely no issue paying for my husband and son’s last minute stay, but were never given the opportunity to simply rectify the change and handle in a proper manner. My sister paid the difference as my husband and I calmed our son down from his heightened state of fear. Once we calmed our son, I returned to the front lobby to checkout and return the keys. There was no apology for his actions or scaring our son to the point of tears. Now trying to look at fun things to do to turn this day around for our family after such a horrible departure from...

Read moreI wish there was a way to give 4.5 Stars. Service is straightforward and friendly. They are very attentive to guests. The rooms were clean, adequately spacious, and quiet. We had a Westward facing window and we saw a little Wildlife at the Lakes across the Interstate. Gazebos in the rear of the property were inviting. With the multiple security cameras visible at the front desk, we felt very safe. Plenty of parking. Close to the interstate and most importantly, handy to the Loess Hills National Wildlife Refuge. Tea and hot water are accessible at all times. A room refrigerator was available; no microwave in our room but I think the lobby had one . Hand sanitizer available in the lobby. There is a little common reading area, which came in handy when my companion couldn't sleep.
There is a safety detail that I was just a little concerned about. There is a step up to the lobby entrance maybe 4 to 6 in. I was able to accommodate for it. A "watch your step" sign might be helpful as somebody I was staying with did forget about the step down when exiting the lobby. Fortunately they were able to catch themselves. A guest with neuropathy or mobility impairment would be at higher risk of injury.
A few details that were not a big deal to me but could be to some guests are the following: the shower has a curious low ceiling. If you are much past 5'10" or so you might have to stoop to use it. There are three chairs in the room. An upholstered chair and two straight back chairs (some stains visible). The bathroom is tiny with the sink outside of the room.
All in all, I would not hesitate...
