Pictured Rocks Cabins — Hotel in Munising Township

Really nice rooms. They are basically a duplex with each unit having a big bedroom/living room and a bathroom. There's a toaster, microwave and coffee machine in the room, as well as a fridge. The rooms look very nice and seem to be relatively newer construction. Beds were great, showers were fine but very low water pressure.

The issue we had was we booked the room about 6 months in advance for a family vacation with my wife, daughter and me. We arrived about 6pm on the day of check in and I went in to check us in with my 7 year old daughter. The owners told me they were going to cancel my reservation as they didn't allow kids to stay in the units. I told them we were about 12 hours from home and had no place else to sleep. Ultimately they did allow us to go ahead and check in, which I sincerely appreciate, but the experience put a cloud over our stay in Munising. I understand if you have rules on your properties and I don't begrudge anyone the right to do whatever they like with their own units, but I could find no reference to a prohibition against kids on their website after the fact. There is a reference to a two person maximum in the units but I frankly missed it when it was booked as it's only on one page if you click down a ways but it was on there so shame on me for not thoroughly reading the whole website before booking. Our kiddo likes to sleep in her sleeping bag on the floor when we travel a lot so the thought didn't occur to me. But again, that is my fault for missing that entry. But I don't get the no kids policy when it's not listed from what I could find.

We love to find small, family owned businesses for our needs on vacation and at home. They usually give great service and are very appreciative for my business. I received no appreciation or gratitude for spending over $700 with them and, instead, was made to feel like a burden for coming under the circumstances. No thank you for coming or anything of the like.

The room is great. I'd highly recommend it. I also recommend you comb the website top to bottom before booking so you don't get your reservation canceled at the last minute. Not a ton of other options around if that did...

In August of 2023, Cathy was very helpful over emails and the phone, the cabin was clean, beds were comfortable and there was very little traffic noise. I was somewhat disappointed in the lack of a stove (I always thought a cabin would have more than a microwave for cooking)--and then their grill was inconveniently located behind the "cabin" requiring a walk, down some steps and around the building to access same. Also thought the place was somewhat overpriced. I also was never really able to figure out their TV as no channel guide was offered.

Most annoying however, was the landlord (Cathy) pounding on our cabin's door at 9:05 PM (emphasis POUNDING) (as in "OMG, what's going on" type pounding)--this because we'd parked our car in the WRONG PLACE. And it's not like we weren't in bed at the time or were ever told where we could or should park. I found this very upsetting and I'm upset enough to make note of this incident five days later, here on Google. She had our phone number and could have just called, or just a tap-tap-tap on the cabin door with a "Hello-hello, hey can you move your car."

That said, her (I assume) husband was very nice and one of the images shows where you should not park if...

SUPER CLEAN! Seriously, 5* on the housekeeping. It's rare I stay at a place, at any pricepoint, in the United States, where something isn't gross/dusty/dirt in the corners etc. This place was pristine. Convenient location, strong WiFi. Wished we had planned a little more time here, really. Hosts were very friendly and accomodating for our last minute visit. Bed was great on our backs and we slept like logs. Lovely comfortable porch setup. Really enjoyed this spot. Only thing I might have different for my personal preference, would be motion activated outdoor path/step lights instead of always-on - they were great for visibility and safety (which is important!) and probably for hanging out eating outside after dark, but did not allow for sitting out to look at the stars in the evening. Would absolutely stay here...
