My family and I decided last minute to book a trip to Munising. Every place was sold out aside from this dump! We looked at the pics and it seemed updated and clean. We were very wrong! My family had a total of three rooms. Two King suites and a Queen room with two beds. We all have dogs that are trained and very well behaved. I’ve stayed at many hotels that accommodate pets and have never seen a place so filthy. The pictures online were deceiving and not sure where the 5/5 stars were coming from unless they had the Queen rooms. My parents had the Queen room and it was clean and updated as the pictures show online. However, the two King rooms were absolutely disgusting! Actually, three rooms because we had to be switched after walking into our second floor room and stench and filth was mind blowing. We walked into the back building and it smelled awful like weed, cigarettes and dog poop. Yes, POOP that was in the hall and on the stairs. We avoided it because dogs have accidents and you would think as a dog owner, you would pick it up or let staff know. Anyway, we walked in with our two children and our small dog which was in a backpack the entire time on my back. We walked into our room and almost puked. Not only was it filthy, but had poop in the corner but the desk and another spot by the bathroom door. I walked into the very outdated baby blue bathroom and there was dried poop or blood on the seat. I called the desk immediately without setting anything down and they quickly switched us to a room on the first floor. We were hopeful that this room would look like the ones online, but nope. Just as filthy! Bathroom was small and very outdated, pubic hair on the shower and floor, shower was filthy, faucets and towel holder were rusted, the floor had visible mold but instead of fixing it and cleaning it properly, they put caulk over it. The sink was cracked and toilet backed up. When I finally decided to take my dog out of her backpack, Kristin blamed my dog for pooping all over the halls. Mind you it was there when we walked in. I told her no that I just let her out of her backpack because we had poop in our room and she told me it wasn’t poop it was paint. I’m not stupid, I know the difference between poop and paint. I also can tell the difference in the smell. She continued to tell other guests walking in the halls that a small black dog pooped everywhere, but many of those people were family and knew she wasn’t out of her backpack pack and her staff knew as well because she met me at the room to give us the keys and had to immediately come back to bring a plunger in which she was still in her backpack. We went to fold out the sofa bed for two of us to sleep and found a mouse trap under the bed. Lifted the mattress and found a used dental floss pick and a ton of crumbs. My entire family of 4 slept sideways in the king bed. My sister’s King room was also filthy. The ceiling was yellow and looked like it was going to cave in. The air conditioner barely worked and was also filthy. The buttons were worn off. We wanted to open the windows because the smell of weed and smoke was so bad, but the screen had a huge hole in it. We couldn’t shower because of how disgusting the shower was. Not to mention the shower curtain being a yellow/ orange color from soap scum build up and never being changed. When Kristin was confronted about the problems, she very rudely accused us of our dog pooping and told my sister to leave because it wasn’t to her standards. Don’t advertise your business to be something it’s clearly not! The pictures also show a pool and there’s clearly not one. Had there been other open hotels nearby with availability or we had been closer to our cabin, we all would have left. With small children, pets and 14 of us traveling together it made it very difficult. I would never recommend this place to anyone. The only good thing about it is it’s close to...
Read moreI reserved a room online and noted I would have my service dog with me (a black lab). Upon check in, the check in told me that they had to charge me a pet fee. I stated he was a service dog amd I noted that on my reservation and they could not charge me a fee. The girl then went on to state that he needed to be in a "green vest" otherwise they have to charge. I explained that per the ADA, service dogs do not need to be marked but they could ask 2 questions to verify. Sje rolled her eyes and was irritated saying I just needed to sign the papers and they had to charge me because they are independtly owned and can make rules. I again shared the law and stated I wpuld not sign anything saying they could charge me. She then agreed and I went to my room.
The room was ok. Definitely not worth what I paid, but it was enough to sleep in for the night. The AC was weird and there were lots of holes in the hallways and just felt a bit broken down.
In the morning, I went to grab breakfast and another check in person told me my dog could not be there. I shared he was a service dog. She said he was not wearing an "identifying collar" and that other guests wouldnt like it. I stated again, per ADA there is no requirement for a service dog to be labeled and registrations were scams. I states I had my training certification that he passed his public access and service dog training (which legally they cant ask for) but I wpuld answer the 2 legal questions. This employee then stated she would call the cops.
Now, the cops never came so not sure if she did. But this whole experience was awful. I hope Choice Hotels ownership properly trains their employees to not harrass and discriminate against those with disabilities. While I do know people abuse this and claim fake service animals - the law specifically tells those what can legally be asked. Those 2 questions and the dogs behavior are sufficient. Even a service dog, if not behaved can be removed. My boy was behaving perfectly and not causing any issues. Only one person at breakfast even noticed him and all she said was hello.
The amount of stress I had to experience due to poor employee training and discrimination was terrible. Please...
Read moreI checked in, received my keys and headed to my room, to come to the room and the keys didn't work. Got new keys and the man behind the desk said he would watch to ensure I get into the room, noted he always paid attention to pretty girls. I was traveling alone and was uncomfortable with this comment, considering he had keys to all the rooms and could open them at anytime. When I went back to the room with the new keys they did not work again, headed back to the office once again to have him come out and try the keys. Once we got there he couldn't get the room to open, and used his master key to open it, then asked if I needed a key? Really? He had to ask? What kind of customer service is that? He then gave me another room.
I planned on eating dinner at the restaurant that is noted in the hotel description, yet it was closed, if you don't offer this then take it off or note when it's open. I had to drive back into Munsing at 9pm to grab something.
The room was awful, the mattress had a plastic cover on it, was uncomfortable, only had a sheet on it, the comforter was folded at the end and blankets in the dresser. I read in other comments this is your standard, I have to beg to different, I stayed in the Econo Lodge in Marquette the night before and that is not the way it was.
I could hear the people above me all night. There were several patches in the walls, and looked patched. The tub/shower was painted and had rust stains, yes there are cleaners to remove this.
Breakfast, there wasn't much offered, no eggs or meat, the one in Marquette offered these items. No hot fresh waffles, they were frozen ones in a case for you to warm in the toaster.
I paid less for a Comfort Inn in Philly than the price I paid for this dump. I paid the same in Marquette and had a microwave and refrigerator in my room.
There was a note on the counter the hot tub was down, looks like from the reviews it's been down for a while, should be fixed by now. Or credit people for not having this available or note on the website.
I would not recommend this place to anyone, I should of taken the reviews a little more serious, but unfortunately there wasn't any vacancy due...
