I decided to invest in some new gear and figured i would head to one of ct's last strongholds for fly fishing, they had all of the rods i was interested in and the staff was welcoming and knowledgeable .. needless to say I went with the hardy marksman 9' 5 weight and it was a great choice and was everything i expected ... I would recommend this shop to anyone looking to either get into flyfishing or someone looking to upgrade even talk shop or get advice ... can't go wrong 👍👍

Great place to get advice and fly fishing gear. I bought my first “beginner” rod and reel combo for $180 and with their advice on the right fly for fishing the Farmington river nearby, I almost caught a fish. I say almost because as I was reeling it in, it took my newly purchased fly and flew! Rookie mistake in tying the fly on the leader. Next time!

Awesome little store with a nice selection of products and even better customer service. Their knowledgeable staff are fantastic at helping even the most novice fly fisherman get on the water and land trout. I am very grateful for their recommendations on spots to try and fly patterns to use.

This is the premier shop for fly fishing. Whether you're a seasoned expert, a novice new to the sport, or like me fall somewhere in between, Upcountry has everything you'll need to get out on the water, including the latest in new equipment, the best in lightly used gear, and the sage recommendations of an expert staff. And if Grady doesn't have it on his shelves, he can find it for you - something I know first-hand because he's done it for me. Grady sets the bar, with a passion for fly fishing that's exceeded only by his commitment to his customers - something shared equally by each member of his staff. Their selection is extensive, their prices are reasonable, and their individual and collective knowledge of fly fishing the Farmington is unsurpassed. You'll feel welcome from the moment you walk in, and feel like family by the time you leave. In between you'll enjoy and appreciate the time and attention given by Grady and his staff offering helpful suggestions, sharing practical advice, and answering all of your questions no matter how many you ask.

Upcountry also offers several classes to improve your fly fishing skills and make your fly fishing experience more enjoyable, and you can schedule a day on the water with one of their experienced local guides. This gem of a store is conveniently located along the banks of the Farmington River, where you can practice a few casts before deciding which rod to buy. And don't forget to check out their selection of used gear and clearance items at greatly reduced prices. Like the prices, the store and the staff...

I walk in the store and no one greets me, not a big deal. Staff were talking with each other. Figured they would finish up their conversation and then be attentive. I’m looking at new fly lines for a while, figuring someone would come over and ask me if I was all set or needed any help. Still nothing. Staff is talking to each other not paying attention to the customers. Then I’m walking around the store looking for leaders and can’t find it right away so I do two laps, for sure they gotta see me and ask I need any help, huh. Nothing. It was just a weird experience and I was hoping for a friendly shop interaction and got none of it. Next time...

Gone a couple times before in the past the employees were always kind courteous helpful. Been thinking about getting into fly fishing for a few years and finally made the leap, i asked the guy behind the desk for help with "getting the stuff to learn how to fly fish" and he really went above and beyond, showed me the different options with reels, poles got me everything I needed to go fly fishing today and even gave me a couple things extra. And at a really affordable price. A new way to fish I can't wait! Great place and even...
