Sugar Bottom Campground is located on the shore and hills above Coralville Lake and is popular for camping, hiking, biking, boating, swimming, fishing and picnicking. The large campground offers around 20 tent campsites, 30 group sites and over 200 single RV sites. There are 10 full hookups with concrete pads, about 10 water/electric sites with gravel pads with the rest being gravel electric-only sites. Most gravel sites were not level. Lots of sites had shade and some are along the lake. Be aware there's a long paved lane back to the campsites but it is very hilly and windy.||||About half the sites are first come, first serve with the rest reservable online at Reserve America COE. You can get a 50% discount if you have a National Parks Senior/Golden Age Lifetime Pass. See RA's website for fees, maps, rules, directions, etc. There seemed to be at least 10 RV sites reserved for park staff so the campground was well maintained. ||||The best facilities were the 3 modern restroom/shower buildings each with six individual/private rooms. Each room had a locking door, shower with hot water, toilet, sink, mirror, hand-drier, sky-lite. There were several drinking fountains around the campsites, a boat ramp, beach, 2 dump stations, fish cleaning stations, a play ground, picnic shelters, etc. No wifi. The campground was quiet during our mid-week stay. Towns of North Liberty and Solon are close...
Read moreAfter a many-year break, our family is getting back into camping... we have visited a number of campgrounds in the past 2 years. this one is probably one of the top placed in Iowa that we would recommend.||||It's a very large, clean, nice campground, owned by the Army Corps of Engineers. The roads are well paved and maintained and the lots were nice. As others have mentioned, the shower/bathroom facilities are among the best I have ever seen... and they aren't too terribly busy either. I never had to wait for a shower.||||If you are a tent camper, be aware that this place turns into a big RV farm, especially on the weekends. ||||Lots of people running here and there.... lots of kids. Everyone seemed like they were having a good time. Noise was generally not an issue, except for one moron who decided to give all the kids at the campsite rides on his motorcycle (a really loud one) for about 2 hours right around sunset. Kind of annoying...||||Great, clean beach and lake... lots of boats. Great place if you happen to have a boat or a jetski. Planned on fishing but never did get to..||||We are making this part of our...
Read moreThis was our first time staying at Sugar Bottom Campground, and the photos didn't do it justice. Our campsites were near the shore, and we enjoyed the gleaming sunrises and sunsets over the water. The campground was clean and laid out well. The bathrooms were well-maintained and didn't seem very busy at all considering how many people were at the camp! We spent a day on a pontoon, motoring around the lake. We found quiet areas next to beautiful cliffs ("cliffs" like you'd find in Iowa, so not very steep, but still...) that we jumped from into cool, deep water. Later on, we stopped at a different area and docked so that we could grab a bite to eat at Bobbers and play sand volleyball. Our evenings at the campsite were relaxing. Grills were large and plenty of places to pitch our tents. The only concern, if we had to give one, would be that we missed having trashcans at the campsite. There were dumpsters to throw your trash in on the way out, but until then, you had to keep your bags on the ground near the pad or picnic table. Overall, we had a great time and...
