Pros: Clean bungalows, great views, fishing, swimming, convenient location to shopping and restaurants. Convenient parking next to your bungalow. Basic furnishings were satisfactory for our month long stay. This included Corelle dish ware, pots and pans, silverware and cooking utensils. Glasses, cups, coffee maker, and toaster. Automatic ice maker is great. You must provide all your paper products, except 2 rolls of TP, one dishcloth and one dish towel. One bath rug and door rug. Mattress covers are on the mattresses. Pillows are provided. Mini blinds and drapes on most windows. AC worked great, digital thermostat you control. Oven and refrigerator all newer models. All but one staff member was courteous, helpful and friendly. Convenient laundromat (2 of them). Bring quarters. $1 to wash a load and $1 to dry a load. Despite the cons I have already made my reservations for my next 3 week stay. You can’t beat the view, the weather and the price. I recommend you bring throw rugs, a lot of them. The sand is abundant. Cons: dated older bungalows, no grass to speak of, tons of sticker burrs (sand spurs), the hard, really prickly kind! I picked out of my dog multiple times a day, and rescued her so many times, as she couldn’t take a step, they are everywhere. Ants everywhere, stand still for a minute in sandals and you will get bit. Even on the beach, lots of ants. On days with no breeze black flies bite the heck out of you, tons of them. Any kind of rain comes right through the poorly sealed double glass doors, they even provide you with PIG mats and 2 small towels to soak up the large puddles of water on your floor. Our first night, the AC drained into the doorway of the bathroom. My husband and brother in law fixed it the next day, by repositioning a drainage pipe. 1 TV, not large about 30 inches I would guess. Water went out for about 30 minutes one time, electricity went out 3 times, one episode lasted about 3 hours. TV signal is lost several times a day, usually only for a few seconds. A few times lasted up to about an hour. Had a very noisy and uncomfortable bed, finally figured out the box spring was broken in half, they replaced it within hours. Most of the mini blinds were broken in our unit. I borrowed a vacuum, from a friend who lives nearby as the broom is not nearly sufficient for all the sand that gets...
Read moreOur first stay in a military campground. Look for the brown sign (and put in your GPS) "Maxell Gunter Recreation Area" The views of the bay and the oak trees are amazing! There is significant noise from the mid-bay toll bridge, but when inside with ACs on, the traffic can't be heard. Despite GPS, the easiest and best route is Exit 85-Defuniak Springs. Go south, after a few miles, watch closely for "Rock Hill road" on the left, then ~.1 mile, turn right onto "Hwy 282, site C-6" (if you go 1/2 mile past Rock Hill, you have missed it, turn around, then you will see a sign that says "Eglin site C-6" Go to dead end, turn left, will end on Hwy 20. Turn right. (Then ignore GPS once more. Keep going on hwy 20, turn left onto "White point" (walgreens will be on your left). Go straight, look for brown sign on right. No matter the direction, you are traveling on I-10, avoid Exit-70! It is a two lane road and will put you on the wrong end of Niceville! Hope that helps our...
Read moreOnly things going for this place are the prices and the beautiful location with the view. Besides that, it is in rough shape. Bath houses are filthy and not cleaned regularly. Laundry only has one working dryer, and the sites empty into shared septic tanks. However, the septic tank for ours was full and they claimed it would slowly drain into the leach fields and allow our sewer hose to empty. While this was true, it was impossible to dump the black tank and it took half an hour to drain the gray tank. They claim a truck will come pump it the next day, but we ended up leaving as we couldn’t even use the shower and our black tank was full. That being said, if they knew about this issue with the septic tanks, it tells me they probably don’t do much to maintain them when they fill up. Finally, some sites are tough to get into as the entrances aren’t marked and you have to weave between trees, not a fun/easy task with a...
