We just got home yesterday from a 3 night camping trip at Kaiaka Bay Beach campsite #4. 2 adults, 3 kids ages 7, 8 and 10.
First, the good stuff. The girls LOVED playing at the beach each day. Less than a minute to walk to the ocean from our campsite. The sites are roomy so you aren't too near other campers. The bathrooms were very clean for being public beach bathrooms. There was toilet paper! The trash cans around the park were emptied often. The turtles. The water was pretty shallow so the girls could walk out to play in the waves. There are nice shade trees at the beach and in the picnic area. The 2 feral kitties who slept on the restroom walls were a source of amusement. The breeze.
Now the not-so-good stuff. No soap or paper towels in the bathrooms. No warm water for showers, which was not a surprise. The ants! The first night we all got bitten up just standing near our picnic table. No shade trees at the campsites. The lack of rule enforcement. (One night a generator ran all night! Another campsite had either a TV or radio blaring all day long and into the night which made it difficult for the girls to fall asleep. Cars driving over the grass and through campsites. More than 10 people in a campsite. The dog poop people didn't bother to clean up. If there isn't going to be enforcement then don't have rules!) Bring water shoes - the water is full of coral and rocks. (Hubby and middle child got stuck by a sea urchin, even through their water shoes. After that, the girls wouldn't go in the water anymore. They really prefer a sandier water experience.)
This was our girls' first camping trip and it was not an overall hit with them. If not for the ants, hubby and I would camp here again, but not...
