NOT what we expected!||||We arrived on a Thursday mid-day, and the building has no designated parking so we had to unload and park a few streets away and walk back.||||I am handicapped so I chose the room with one step down as there are many stairs in this building. What a mistake that was. In the "basement" room 16 next to the water heater, pipes and boiler. We were up most of the night listening to every cough, toilet flush, shower taken and every step and bang that the people above us made. When we told the manager about our plight, she just suggested turning on a fan (it was 50 something degrees in the morning and we were cold enough without adding the fan) it was not viable. ||||I asked the manager how to use the TV and she said "oh, I'm sorry, we don't have a TV for this room we did not order it." They should put a different picture on the web so it doesn't show a TV in the Room. We were told we go to the kitchen and watch the TV there, the two times we did that, every person that came in the building stared at us wondering why we were watching TV in the kitchen. Awkward.||||We had reservations for two nights and on the morning of departure, at 6:15 a.m., we heard sawing, hammering and drilling right behind our bed. I was so tired of all the noise by that point that I yelled at the repair man and said "do you have to do this at 6:15 in the morning?" He replied "yes, ma'am, it's the only time I can do it." Obviously, the owners and management do not care about their patrons as everyone else has said in their prior reviews. In my neighborhood at home, we cannot start work until 8:00 a.m.||||We go on vacation to relax and sleep in a little and I was not able to do that here. Good thing we only stayed two nights.||||p.s. the breakfast was not very good... cold cereal, tiny pieces of fruit and dry baked bread.||||The plus of this location is that is on the beach and the room was clean.||||Needless to say, we will not be...
Read moreThe Nautilus is a B&B located right on the beach in the quaint beachside town of Ocean Park Maine …close enough to Old Orchard Beach to enjoy what they have to offer but removed enough to feel like you are on a quiet relaxing beach vacation. This is my 4th summer trip to Ocean Park and my first stay at the Nautilus. It is by far my favorite place I’ve stayed. There is a welcoming, community feel about this place. The first floor has a large open room with lots of seating where you can gather, eat, or just sit and read. My favorite thing to do was grab a coffee (coffee/tea bar with everything you need, right there in the living room), snuggle up on one of the comfy chairs or couch, and read a book while listening to the ocean waves and enjoying the cross breeze. Even my teenage sons lounged in the living room! There is a large porch, part indoors and part outdoors with tables, rockers, & lounges. Even with a full house, there always seemed to be room to sit and enjoy. The bedrooms are a little older but very clean and charming. I particularly liked the old-fashioned chenille bedspread in my room. And the view was amazing! The bathrooms are clean and functional (my shower looked new). Breakfast is provided each morning and delicious! The Nautilus is very clean and they provide you with all of the amenities you need…Ceiling fans, extra fans if needed (the ocean breeze is enough though!), extra pillows, lots of towels (even beach towels by the door with hampers for when you’re done), beach chairs and toys, etc. Parking is limited, as none of the B&Bs have lots. But there is plenty street side parking close by. We had no trouble finding spots. I highly recommend the Nautilus for your stay in Ocean Park. I can’t wait...
Read moreWe LOVED our stay here at the Nautilus! My boyfriend grew up going to Ocean Park and every summer for about 15 years. We wanted to take a trip and stay near the beach. We were literally on the beach. The house was built in the 1890s and it is beautiful! It does have updates to it since then but you don’t lose a bit of the charm.
We stayed in the old inn keepers room on the main floor, and it had its own bathroom. Our room had a window AC unit and it’s own mini fridge as well as a ceiling fan. I do think it needs more outlets but we just used one in the bathroom. They provide you with bath towels, fresh beach towels everyday, washcloths, face towels and bath mats.
Resa is the manager their and was absolutely wonderful. She cooked delicious breakfasts and is available if you need anything. One day we had avocado toast, scrambled eggs, fresh baked blueberry buckle, blueberry corn muffins, and chocolate oatmeal protein cookies. Various breads, bagels, and English muffins are available as well as butter, peanut butter, and jelly. There is always coffee, tea, and water and ice on hand.
In addition to breakfast the house has a whole closet FULL of board games and activities to play if you find yourself inside for an afternoon storm. There is plenty of common areas to hang out and do a puzzle or play a game. The house also has plenty of beach items for you to use including beach chairs, umbrellas, footballs, volleyballs, sand toys, bikes, helmets, and various other things.
You do need to park on the street, but there was ample parking and you don’t really have to move your car that often because there is so much within walking distance. Overall I couldn’t speak highly enough about our stay. Consider us...
