Never written a negative review for any experience until now. The positives are their nice and professional website and proximity to viewing Monument Valley. It ends there. My original request for a reservation was handled within a week. However, after I sent the one night rental fee I could not receive a confirmation. I tried texting, calling, emailing and using their website portal repeatedly for several weeks. Always excuses for the delay. I had figured this would not pan out after reading other reviews. However we weren't quite prepared for what transpired upon arrival. I don't like to put down someone's home, but it was very rundown trailer in front. I went to the office but no one was there. We drove around to the tipi area, which looks like the pictures. No one was around and it was about 6:30 PM. Finally, a young woman appears with a one week old baby. She wanted to see my email confirmation. I showed her the text confirmation. She claims their website has been down. She acted like she didn't know we were coming. She then tells me that we could choose between 3 tipis. As we are standing at one a young boy appears and climbs through the opening and comes back through and sits on the opening. I glance down and see he is naked from the waist down. She then tells us that a tipi on the other side is nicer and we may like that one. My husband and son go inside first and I follow to see a big wet spot just inside. We decided that based on observations and interactions that we did not feel comfortable staying there. We have camped and have no problem roughing it. There was a different feel about this. While things looked like the picture, if they are letting the boy run around naked, a dog roam freely and based on the condition of the trailer and office I doubt it is sanitary. She didn't seem surprised when I told her we were leaving. They already had my money and no doubt she didn't want to be bothered with us. My advice is don't pay at all in advance. Go and see what you all think and then pay. Maybe our money can go...
Read moreAfter flying and traveling by car for 10 plus hours on just 2 and a half hours sleep, I was really second guessing my choice of staying in a Tipi for the night. I just wasn't up for a night of what I figured would be tossing and turning in a stuffy tent. I was a little misled by a picture of some coleman fold down cots as beds in one of the reviews I read, so I was really close to just taking my losses and fork out the money for much more expensive hotel with beds and a TV. ....I am so glad we didn't do that. Not only was there 2 super comfortable beds, but of the 5 day vacation that included stays at a best western, holiday inn and zion lodge, the tipi provided the best night stay of the trip by far, and it was only a 3rd of the price. It wasn't JUST a nights stay either like the others, it was an experience on its own. Just outside the tipi was a picnic table, fire pit, a grill and a great view of the valley off in the distance. Ill never forget how relaxing it was, sitting outside there after a long day of travels, watching the sunset next to the firepit on a cool late May evening. One of the locals had a super friendly dog that came up and made friends for the night as well. The morning was even more spectacular, I was able to catch the sunrise over the valley and that was just incredible. We did the 3 and half hour guided tour in the morning and that was unforgettable as well. All in all, I really just can not say enough about this place. I enjoyed my visit a thousand times better than I...
Read moreIt’s an interesting campground. It consists of 5 tipis, a couple of cabins, and 2 RV spots, it's really not an RV campground. Reviews rated high, maybe the rating was based on the tipis or cabins. We had only water and electric hookup. WiFi is weak/non-existent, as is Verizon. There are no over air TV stations or radio stations (FM or AM). The bathrooms are nice. Each of the two bathroom/shower is a private space; shower, toilet, and sink all in a private room. There is no picnic table or patio. We wouldn’t have been able to use either due to the weather. Most days the wind was 10-15 mph, a couple of the days it was 20+ with gusts of 30-40 mph. That’s not the fault of the park. The view from our motorhome was spectacular. We could watch the sunrise and sunset over the monuments from our motorhome. Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park is maybe 6 miles away. The location is great. I believe they are working on the campground. The tipi area is really nice with newer plants and beds, BBQ’s, picnic tables. However, we probably would not stay here again, we would try another campground just up the road.
If you are planning on purchasing any type of alcoholic beverage in Kayenta, Monument Valley, or Mexican Hat, you can’t. All are located in Navajo nation, which is a “dry” area!
Definitely take the 17-mile loop road in Monument Valley either with your own vehicle or one of the many tour...
