UPDATE: MOTHS IN ROOM!!
I stayed at Miraval Arizona for 3 nights in a Solace room with an outdoor hot tub. The base rate was $1,279 before adding the resort fee and taxes.
The room and patio were very spacious. Upon entering I was greeted by many flying insects including large and small moths. Fortunately I had packed a fly swatter however they seemed to keep getting in throughout my stay. If I grabbed a towel or moved bedding these little moths would fly out...they were everywhere. Alive and dead. I asked front desk for solutions but they had none. They flew out of my luggage when I got home. I opened my suitcase again a few weeks after I got home and more moths flew out. I went online and identified them as possibly being clothing moths. My hotel room seemed infested!! I regret staying there now. Now these moths are at my home ☹️ The room was not as clean as one would expect and the plush carpet in the room was stained and flattened. There was dirt on the walls and the paint was peeling and chipped. The outside patio chairs were stained. The hot tub was very dirty and I had to request it be cleaned. Every time I used it I got hives on my legs. Fortunately they went away after a few hours. I wish I had brought toilet paper from home, it was thin and rough. The towels were also rough, some were dingy and had a strange odor.
The resort itself was very large and I enjoyed walking around it. Because I was staying at the Retreat I got in a lot of walking in which I really enjoyed, I easily got over 10,000 steps a day before dinner! I would warn others that don't enjoy long walks in 100 degrees to pick a room closer to the main buildings.
The activities were plentiful and I enjoyed most of them. Most of the instructors seemed to genuinely enjoy what they were doing with one exception. Maybe she was having a bad day. My favourite was the Clairvoyant reading with Janet Rae, she really surprised me with her ability to tune into who I was and my feelings. I also really enjoyed the Stress Mastery Class, the instructor was so genuine and pleasant. The past lives regressions lady was hilarious and just fun to be around...I was the only one who didn't seem to successfully experience a past life but I still really enjoyed the experience. The activity rooms were very basic, like conference rooms at a lower end hotel with old carpet and square panel ceiling and lights that flicker annoyingly.
I booked a couple of spa treatments which were good but the spa was a bit underwhelming and dirty. The carpet in the hall was so dirty and riddled with stains. The loungers in the relaxation area were stained and I didn't want to sit on them. I'm not sure why they wouldn't have these things cleaned. It did not feel very luxurious. The first time I went to the spa I was offered flavored fruit water which was delicious but the second time I was offered nothing despite arriving well in advance of my appointment time.
The food was plentiful but of average quality. The menu and buffet was very repetitive and limited in variety. I enjoyed the food but would have been happy to pay for more varied and high quality meals in a seperate restaurant. Being an all inclusive resort I guess this means having limited options. At dinner I noticed the chairs and floors had crumbs which seemed odd because the restaurant is closed for hours between lunch and dinner. I guess they don't clean in between. The staff were lovely and friendly though.
While I really enjoyed my stay I found the resort to be a bit shabby and dirty overall. It is need of some maintenance and cleaning. It's a shame because it really is a beautiful and special place. The prices they charge don't seem in line with the quality and cleanliness however maybe the value is in the many included activities and food. The decor is pretty plain. Most of the paths are dirt and the landscaping is very natural, not many lush green areas. It used to be a rehab center so maybe that's why it's not very fancy.
Overall it was a really great experience but I would not go back to...
Read moreWe went there Feb 3th for a 2 day stay aim for a getaway also my gf's birthday. This all-inclusive resort charged over $2,000 per night thus we are expecting a luxury, relaxing stay.
The room is fair, bit of small but okay. The mattress is so soft and unable to bounce back so that I slept on a slope after I stacked my suitcase on the bed for a a while. there was a fridge in room but our fridge had a disgusting, smelly, rotted cheese plate with fungi on top. Assuming the janitor is not doing their job correctly.
In the evening we are exhusted after a 3 hour flight and 2 hour drive to this distinct resort so we ordered in room dining at 8:20 pm. We waited till 10:10am but food was not served. I called 3 times to guest service but only replied by nonsenses and useless info. Finally I called the front desk then they found out something is wrong. I have waited on hold for 10 minutes before they can give me a reply. After that a male manager answered and tell me that my food was prepared but no one served to my room so they were cold in the kitchen. Since I ordered the burger, cheese plate and desserts, they decided to serve me the dessert first since it is ok to serve cold and then buy me a Mc Donalds burger due to kitchen closure. It is a little bit sarcastic since this is a branded "healthy" resort. I got my quarter pounder burger at approx. 11:20 pm, which is already cold came alone without fries or drinks. Seems that they already forgot that I also ordered a cheese plate......
The second day we attended several activites. Birding is free but very interesting. the birding guide Carter, made our day by leading us in hiking and showing us his expertise in birds and nature. Don't choose the activity called "the spirit of horse". We thought we will go to a ranch and play with horses, however, turned out we went to a ranch, sit outside the fence, guided by an artist, using color pencils to draw selfies after observaing horses when they are wandering.....
Spa is good but overpriced, thought they are using high price to consume the night credit they offered in package. I did a body massage and enjoyed time in hot tub. hot tub, sauna and steam rooms are small and little bit awkward if you share with others since someone may completely naked due to no dress code.
To avoid gliches happened yesterday, we dined in restaurant and ordered cheese plate again. dishes are good but in inadequate portions that a normal figure guy like me need 23 entree to get fed. The sausage has a metal piece on it, which may left by steel wool after dish washing. A manager came when dining and paid the bill for the alcohol we ordered during dinner to address the "confusion" happened last night, which is $35.
I can't say this is a satisfied stay but indeed impressed by the view, the national parks surrounded and all natural lifes. However, the trail paths in hotel are very confusing. The red and blues ones are okay since they are just loops on ground. The green one is poorly managed due to seriously insufficient trail marks. We felt we were lost in the middle of trail. The trail is using arrows on stick to tell directions on the ground, but it suddenly changed to using rocks to block wrong ways when on the hill then changed to tieing colored stripes on tree branchs without any notification. As a most luxury resort for Hyatt, I am expecting a better experience in Miraval especially regarding to such a high room price. Ritz Carlton is a strong competitor since half room price and a more dedicate service according to my...
Excellent service, and quite a unique experience, however some qualms (4.5 stars). I stayed for 5 nights first in the desert sky suite (room 509 for three nights), and then moved rooms into the reflection one-king suite (for two nights) based on an issue I had with the sky suite. I thought the desert sky suite was nice, but the retreat is where the stay became exceptional. You can see what I mean with the pictures.
The service was great from the front desk staff (Tony, Rachel and Ramsey) to Marty that welcomes the guest as they arrive. I was recognized as a globalist with hyatt which was nice. I celebrated Christmas and my birthday on the property. The food was okay, however desperately needs improvement. Many guests have mentioned the same during the stay in which the food occasionally was tasteless and average quality. Even to the extent that one guest doesn’t even bother going to breakfast on site. He goes to a neighboring restaurant based on the quality at Miraval. I don’t really blame him. The best I had was the lobster tail and beef special for Christmas dinner. The moon burger was okay, and the flatbread pizzas were kind of pathetic (small and lacking ingredients). Everything I ordered had to be customized to my liking. Others did the same. The smoothies were good, but inconsistent based on who made it, and overly filling and always had to be individualized.
The activities and spa (naga was great) definitely make this resort (along with the retreat rooms, of course). The specialists know the in and outs throughout all of the options when it can seem overly complicated. They can put together based on your individual needs and budget. Definitely splurge, but don’t go overboard with planning activities each hour. Intend on having some downtime. Book private sessions if something is very important to you. I loved the outdoor adventures: off property hikes, biking, and slack line. All the instructors (Damien, Dom, and Lauren) were exceptional. Find one you prefer and book a private lesson.
A challenge I had was late checkout of my retreat room (I know I got spoiled with the upgrade, but you would expect the same based on the rack rate). I requested the day before, even waited until the night for confirmation and was refused. 11 AM only. Rachel explained someone had booked the room right after me, and they could not accommodate even though I had activities until 3 pm. However, what I noticed was that despite me keeping my luggage at the front door by 11 AM it was never waiting in the baggage storage area (aka never picked up at 11 AM) when I went to retrieve my vehicle around 3:30 pm. Steve at the vehicle pickup had to rush to the room to retrieve the bag and apologized it wasn’t ready. I expected my bag to be either loaded, or ready to be loaded (this is what Rachel and Tony explained was the process). In the note they left me the night they sent to the room before checkout they explained to have my bag ready to go at 11 AM and it would be picked up. Apparently there was actually no one in the room when Steve went to pick up the bag in the room at 3:30 pm. This left me with a bad taste to...
