We've been here a couple times now for weekend camping trips. As an out-of-state camper, the rates aren't anything to write home about, but our overall camping experience has been excellent. In fact, this may be my favorite campground yet. Helpful rangers, very clean bathrooms with regularly stocked supplies, excellent site privacy and easy walk to the beach. Nature sounds are prevalent, but definitely interrupted regularly with children playing, camper's music, and the occasional dog barking. Each campsite has a fire ring with grill, bear box and a sturdy picnic table. You are strongly encouraged to use the bear box as rangers report multiple bear occupants in the area. (We've never seen one here.) A Nature Center on location offers programming during the summer. If you're a dog parent, it's also a perk that you can bring your furry family members, if you're so inclined!
Firewood can be purchased from the ranger station. In 2023, that's $7 a bundle. I do wish they also sold kindling. We arrived on a rainy weekend and struggled to find...
Read moreMy group had a great time at Tolland (2 nights-TH, F). We stayed at site 43: beautiful with tons of flat space for tents and ample shade. The comfort stations aren’t far but not so close you can hear it or anything like that. Overall the sites are spaced pretty far apart, giving everyone a lot of room. Groups around us respected quiet hours. It was a very peaceful time here. The occasional loud jet ski or boat were the most annoying sounds but it wasn’t so bad. The staff seemed to be attentive and kept up the comfort stations every day. There were wasps in and around the comfort stations so just be mindful. We wished we could pull our cars in closer to our camp, but there are boulders keeping you from doing this. There is still plenty of room to park, just something to keep in mind if you like pulling your car up close to camp. Would love to come back here in the fall for...
Read moreCampground and facilities are nice enough. Good access to the reservoir. Staff are pleasant. But if you are looking to have a quiet night camping, this ain't it. The campground seems to attract large groups of folks interested in partying and not following the rules regarding noise/quiet hours and food storage. Since there are black bears active in the area (we saw two), following the food storage rules is very important. There is not much privacy between the sites so you are at the mercy of whoever you happen to be next to. Unfortunately there were a number of groups who didn't care that their actions were spoiling the experience for...
