Harry here. Your level 7 Local Guide writing from Austin, Texas. When traveling to Palacios and wanting to stay in the town, this is it. Palacios is actually the closest point on the coast from Austin. I've stayed at all of the other places including some rentals homes, and this is simply the best. It is charming, has a historic feel (built in 1910), is directly across the street from an amazing fishing pier and cleaning station, just down the road from bait shops, and some of the best places to eat in the area (check out The Point Vietnamese grocery and restaurant featured by Anthony Bourdain on Parts Unknown...just a few blocks north). IT IS PET FRIENDLY! Did I mention it is pet friendly? We stayed in the garden room on the second floor, and while it was pushing 100 degrees outside our window, our room was as icy cold as could want it. There is a nice bathroom with a claw foot tub and a separate stand up shower. Lots of lovely warm lighting and an in-room microwave and fridge. The downstairs areas feature cozy nooks filled with flowering plants and antiques, a large and comfortable living room, front porch chairs and resting areas, and an inviting dining area... which brings me to my next point. Breakfasts here is the real deal featuring a coffee and tea bar with meals made to order... pancakes plain or with pecans, scrumptious sweet potato waffles with lots of fresh butter and maple syrup, scrambled eggs and cheese, eggs sunny side up, eggs over medium... however you want them. Crispy bacon and maybe an egg, cheese, and sausage casserole... and always a seasonal fruit bowl. Chase it with some fresh orange juice and another cup of coffee. When you think of "Bed and Breakfast..." this is it. One of the best parts of the stay is your host, Paula, who makes you feel welcome, comfortable, and well fed in the morning. I could not give the Peaceful Pelican a stronger recommendation when staying in Palacios... and definitely go fishing on the pier across the road... you won't be...

My husband and I enjoyed our stay here at the Peaceful Pelican in Palacios, TX. Ms. Paula and Ms. Esmeralda gives excellent service and delivered our breakfast to our bedroom for my and my husband’s honeymoon. Ms. Paula helped us take care of laundry by letting us use the washer and dryer with complimentary wash detergent; then, she even folded our clothes when our laundry was finished drying. Is that top service or what?

Ms. Paula is one-of-a-kind and has the gift of service and she serves others so joyfully. Ms. Paula is a great cook and prepares delicious meals every morning we stayed here with fresh food that tastes way better than continental breakfast. For New Year’s Eve, Ms. Paula brought my husband and I a tall sparkling red grape non-alcoholic juice cocktail which was perfect for the way my husband and I wanted to bring in the new year.

I also appreciate the fresh flowers, tasty chocolate, fresh strawberries and berries Ms. Paula was so kind to deliver to my husband and I. Ms. Paula and Ms. Esmeralda gives the best room service. I appreciate their timeliness in serving us, too. You don’t have to wait long for your requests to be done at the Peaceful Pelican in Palacios, TX.

If we had ten thumbs, my husband and I would give this place ten thumbs up 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍. The Peaceful Pelican in Palacios, TX is the best getaway for a married couple who wants to get away from the city life and experience a calm atmosphere with beautiful scenery and much serenity. God bless this place and everyone who works here, who came here, and who comes to stay here. In...

We were a party of 6. We stayed on the Third Floor Suite. It was an amazing comfortable stay! The owner Paula and Esmeralda were just so nice and welcoming. We arrived and there was a paper with detailed instructions awaiting for us on the door. Very thoughtful and helpful. Beautiful furniture and decor. We went up two flights of stairs to get to our third floor suite. Totally was not an issue for us, but for those who may have issues with climbing or bad knees just keep that in mind. 😁 The food!!! The breakfast was DELICIOUS, SCRUMPTIOUS, AND FILLING! The dining service was amazing! From a variety of coffee and drinks to self serve cereals and whole fruit. They brought out every plate. The main dish the side dishes. They served us juices if we wanted as well. Very attentive to us. And picked up our dishes as well. They sell homemade jams and soaps and souvenirs like coffee mugs and such. They spoiled us during our visit. It was awesome!!👌 Our visit was during the "Covid-19", and Paula and Esmeralda wore masks and gloves the whole time. They made social distancing a point to be aware of. They had hand sanitizer there as well. I appreciate they had everyones health as a priority. The room was comfortable. The air conditioning gets really cold. That was a plus for me! No television. They did have WIFI. There is access to the deck from the third floor. The view from our room and deck was beautiful. We are for sure...

Any quirks, that should be expected staying in a place that was built 100 years ago, are quickly forgotten when you have breakfast and the customer service here. Customer service- excellent. I had a few dumb questions ahead of arrival. Never stayed at a B&B before. All answered with respect vs the typical attitude I'd expect from the big chain places when someone is off in left field. Rooms, excellent views with everything you would want.. unless you wanted a TV for some reason on a quiet get away. No issues with that missing. Bathtub was awesome. Breakfast - she should sell a cookbook along with the coffee cups. I really want to know how to make most of what was served over two days. I didn't eat lunch the two days we stayed. It was good a really good size portions. If we get a chance to head this way; I will stay again for sure. We'll worth the money. Also, no crazy hidden fees other than typical and mandatory hotel taxes. That was nice to book and not get flooded with weird stuff.
