This is NO Resort We planned to stay here a year due to working in the AV (home is in Alabama), we didn't make it 6 weeks. It was as if we were living back at home with strict parents; the unnecessary nit-picking, numerous calls to our place of employment to notify us that we were seen speeding through the park on numerous occasions (completely untrue), telling us that we need to make sure that we notify shippers of our site number because they don't want the drivers coming in and asking where sites are - which we did immediately upon moving in (I looked on the package as soon as I arrived home and it clearly had our site number on the package) - the management was borderline harassing us. I came through the gate one afternoon "slowly" making my way around the corner (the entrance is on somewhat of a hill, so you need to accelerate to move the truck up), the assistant manager coming down the opposite side of the road in her cart with her dog waving for me to slow down, I quickly (and in shock) looked at the speedometer which showed I was going 6 mph (an idle roll in a large diesel truck, a slow walking pace). Once we passed each other she did a quick u-turn and started following me to try and intimidate me, so I stopped - she drove up to my window to tell me that I was going 7 mph and speeding through the park and needed to slow it down. I didn't know how to respond to her it was so ridiculous and unnecessary. This is one of many times we were spoken to. I have seen the assistant manager several times going up and down each row looking/inspecting each and every site, front and back of each rig looking for something to call out. It wasn't until the calls started at my place of employment that we began looking for other options for the year that we found several nearby RV parks that were half the cost, twice the space size, clean grounds, offering much more with bike and walk paths, pools, and a much friendlier staff; just a happier place to be. We are good people, we drive safe, we respect others, we are quiet, we follow rules, work long hours all week and just want to come home and relax. It wasn't just us, several people in the 6 weeks we stayed voiced their frustration as well. We paid $1350/month for a very small site (all sites are on top of each other), you have freeway noise, and we had harassment from the management - this is no "Resort". Our reason for leaving was solely due to the unnecessary management nit-picking - the size of the sites, the closeness of the sites, the freeway noise we would have tolerated, and the admin girls that work in the office were pleasant and helpful. We only received a portion of our refund owed to us - so my suggestion is look around and do your research before committing. There are other parks nearby that offer more and half the cost, and you'll look forward to going home at the...
Read moreThe staff at the Californian is very pleasant, and they are overall nice folks. This review is not about the staff nor their service at the front desk. However, this, being our vacation and we are traveling across the country to visit family, was an important trip to us. A couple of very major disappointments...
#1 - we had reserved and had specified a very specific site at the park. We did this well in advance. We understand that things happen, and that sometimes the need to move people around may come up, but we checked on this twice, only to find out once we arrived that we had to be moved. I won’t go into all the details of why we needed this particular site, but it really was needed. I just wished they had been able to give us some type of notification so we could make other arrangements for this special needs issue before arriving.
#2 - in their informational materials, as well as when reserving and speaking with them over the phone, we were assured that they had cable tv included with their sites. When we arrived, we hooked up our cable and lo and behold, nothing. Upon checking with the front desk, we are told “we haven’t had cable here for almost three years, it’s not available here”. That was completely from left field.
#3 - finally, in my professional life, even while on vacation, I am responsible for a large company’s technology division, so I need to be able to stay plugged-in at certain times with what’s going on at the office. Because of this, we were very specific to check on available Wi-Fi at the resort. We were once again assured, while making our reservations, that their Wi-Fi was “very good” here and that there should be no issue whatsoever. However, when setting up our RV, and following their instructions to access their Wi-Fi, no matter what we tried, any of our devices, regardless, WERE INDEED ABLE to connect to their Wi-Fi, however they all had “no internet” on the connections. Looking at the devices, it was obvious that the park router was not handing out any IP addresses to the devices (via dhcp). This tells me that their router was out of IP addresses. This is very manageable using subnets, I do it all the time for large companies. This is also how other parks handle their guest Wi-Fi. However, here, it was useless. Again, I contacted the front desk, and was told “sorry, we guess too many people are using it, and then it doesn’t work - it happens all the time”. So, I just increased my Verizon plan and used my cellular signal, thank goodness.
Again, I must say that overall the park staff is VERY NICE and pleasant - but that does not mitigate the other issues which made the stay less convenient than I would have hoped. This is not a “more-economical” park, and is considered a premium resort for the area. With that in mind, I really would have...
Read moreRude, NASTY, Arrogant and just Terrible management I've ever experienced!! Oh did I say RUDE??
BUYER BEWARE!! Be careful making a reservation with this park. You won't know what you are getting yourself into until you get there. Don't give them any money!!
I agree with the other folks below that the owner should definitely fire that woman right out of there quick!! I'm wondering with all of these terrible reviews if she's connected with the owner somehow. If it were my place she be out of there in a second! It's a nice place but she made it unbearable and undesirable to stay there. The management is very bipolar!
I was schedule to be there for a week and was asked to leave within a few days. I 'm a pretty reserved individual who likes going to rv parks as it's nice to meet other folks with a little adventure and travel time. I'm retired and in my 50's. I'm always quiet and neat and other than making a friend or two along the way I don't bother anyone.
However, this witch at the front desk thought my very nice but older class A vehicle didn't "fit in " with the park. She said I wasn't following the rules.. btw, what rules?? There were no rules stated anywhere. If there were, I was so quiet and stayed to myself most of the time I couldn't image what rules I would have broken. She made up some other crazy excuses and wouldn't give me my money back either!! I paid in full upon arrival with her. Wow! I am just besides myself! This is the resort from hell!
Regarding the park itself.. everyone is on top of each other, not a lot of room, no trees and too much concrete!
Oh, one more important factor I should mention. This is not a child friendly park!! I looked on Megan's list and there are a few sex offenders that live there full time! Pretty scarey!
This place is a Good Sam facility member. I will be reporting this place to them also. I'm sure they won't allow this sort of visitor treatment.
There should be no stars for this company!! ...
