Western States Inn San Miguel — Hotel in Paso Robles

I was traveling on business to San Miguel which is about 10 minutes from the much larger Paso Robles. This is serious wine country so most of the Paso Robles brand name hotels were booked with travelers. So, I decided to give this place a try. Check in went smoothly and I was pleasantly surprised with my room. Pretty good amount of parking space which was important to me. Most of the other patrons were obviously "workers" that were already on the job when I left the following morning. However, I found this a great location to walk to the nearby Spanish Mission for which the town was named as well as a wonderful Mexican restaurant across the street. There was also a filling station/convenience store nearby. I thought this was a great value and would be a terrific place to return to when I had time to visit some of the nearby vineyards and wineries. ...

If I could give negative stars, I would. Do yourself a favor and just sleep in your car and use gas station bathroom. Trust me the gas station bathroom is cleaner than this facility. When you walk in it smells of old stale urine. There are stains, hair, and disrepair everywhere.... and that's just what's visible or obvious to your nose (can only imagine what is unseen). The property owners MUST TRULY not care AT ALL about cleanliness and hygiene let alone repairing or updating the structure itself. |It was so disgusting that while my boyfriend put one of our blankets down and slept on TOP of the bed, I slept in the car and only went in to use the bathroom as quickly as possible in the morning. |To the property owners... have some respect and repair and properly clean your facility!!!|STAY...

This is a typical motel like you can find them about everywhere in the US: traditional layout, more or less noisy A/C unit, nothing very fancy but nothing very disturbing when the price is right, and it was right. On the day we were there, the Internet stopped working, and I was unable to complete work I had started when I got up especially for that before dawn. I thought this was the hotel's connection, but it seems the whole area was without Internet. The hotel owner/manager followed up on the problem after I told him, and came twice to keep us informed.
