This was our third stay at Howard's. The first two were very nice, in a spacious, clean, and comfortable room (with a gas fireplace) and welcomed our pet.||Our most recent visit, just last Sunday-Tuesday, was less so. ||I don't know if the ownership has changed, or it's that the pandemic has decimated the workforce in tiny Pateros, but the staff was way different than we were used to. The woman who checked me in apologized for being new, but apparently was not given much training before she was thrown to the wolves. After 20 minutes at the desk, me trying my best to be patient, and her trying frantically to work the computer, I was finally given our room keys and told I could "do the paperwork" later. It was not a difficult check-in to process. I had a reservation with all information already given. I can only imagine how the poor woman would have handled a walk-in. ||The next day, my husband had a few words with the manager over said paperwork, which stated that since we had a pet, we "were responsible for damages allegedly caused by our pet". My husband crossed out the word "allegedly", as "damage" pretty much would be a subjective decision on the management's part. This did not go over well. It kind of set a tone. ||There was one ADA parking spot by the front door, which we used, as my husband has mobility issues, and we have an ADA placard. Some employee or guest, driving a huge club-cab dually pickup, insisted on parking in the cross-hatch of the ADA space several times, despite there already being a car in the legal space (ours). This was also rather irritating.||They did serve a continental breakfast, which many properties have reduced or suspended.||The room was, as stated before, roomy, with small patio overlooking the Columbia River, a gas fireplace, and a comfy easy chair and ottoman. They have cut back to no housekeeping on multi-day stays. The wastebaskets got rather full. For the Standard Room Rate of $280 plus $30 tax per night, I think housekeeping could have at least dropped by to empty the trash. On this visit, the towels were thin and dingy, and the sheets were rough like muslin. Not at all as they had been before.||I realize that every business has been adversely affected by the pandemic, and we tried on this 2-week trip to be understanding and not demanding. Howard's was our last stop, and maybe we were just tired after 2 weeks on the road, but it just wasn't the same place it was on the two...
Read moreI actually was staying overnight next to this place on July 3rd, awaiting my favorite day of the year, when the entire group of highschool kids showed up on the dock beside the motel. I thought nothing of it but decided to wait to go to bed because there was so many people and it was so loud. Well, standing under the overhang in the park beside this motel, I was enjoying some sparklers around midnight, when I looked over to see this entire mob of 30 something kids circling into a formation right beside this overhang. Literally out of nowhere, for some reason, screaming at eachother in multiple arguments. A fight broke out, and a girl approached me and said "oh its fine, theyre fine. They're best friends."
Another fight broke out. Then another. And finally a 5th. Someone was beaten on the ground. Nobody did a thing. Nobody encouraged their friends to stop. In fact, there were multiple camera phones recording each fight. One fight started because someone refused to back up their threats to fight another guy. I was approached by another person who was trying to sleep who asked what was going on and tried to argue with the mob. I told him to leave if he could before he made it worse and stood by near all my things on the tables around me, hoping someone would call the police because I would've been stomped to bits for raising my phone to my ear. I hope this hotel ir inn or whatever never lets these people back. This was ridiculous. These kids got completely wasted as an unsupervised group and were threatening to shoot eachother and kill eachother tomorrow....
Read moreLack of professionalism. When we got to the room we inspected the beds first. Three different kind of bugs on a pillow, one spider and two other very strange bugs crawling on the wall. Decided to check out and the gal at the front desk did not know how to do a refund. There were three men working outside. One came in and was drunk said he was the manager but in the end he was the manager of the restaurant and gas station next-door. The gal at the front desk called the manager on our demand. At that point things got really goofy (to many details to list) and could not get a refund. The drunk man disappeared. the manager on the phone told the desk clerk that she would be in at 7:30 to deal with us. We left, went down the street and got a room. Came back at 7:30. The Manager did not show up till nine. Delaying our trip by 1 hour. This was by far the most miserable, unprofessional experience we have ever experienced at any business. I would HIGHLY recommend Lake Pateros Motor in next-door. Clean...
