With a cabin full of people we were not notified of a 5 hour planned water outage one day. Had to use bottled gallon jugs of water in order to flush toilets. Water shutoff again while taking a shower the next day. The shutoff was planned to accommodate new building being done. No consideration for people staying in the cabins by the property managers/investment company owners.
The cabin we stayed in āEagleā was not maintained. Door lock to get into the cabin had problems. Door would not stay shut due to latch. Door paint chipped badly. The fireplace doors are peeling. Had trouble starting fireplace, which made loud noises when started and running; loud bangs when shutoff. Hard to hear conversations indoors. After one shutoff continuous beeping occurred. Batteries needed changing. Loud bangs most likely due to lack of cleaning. Dishwasher door makes loud sound opening like it might fall off. Loud fan in two bathrooms need replacing. Outdoor table rusted. Grill needs replacing. Low water pressure in master bedroom upstairs. Repairs needed to fix upstairs screen room to keep bugs, birds, and critters out. Property managers/investment owners said they were not aware anything needed fixing...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy wife's family was set to stay at Clamshell the last week of July '22, They have used Clamshell for a number of years; I stayed there in 2019. An enjoyable stay that all family members from across the United States were looking forward to this summer. With more than 40 coming and the deposit paid last year, we were greeted the day before check-in with a impersonal text message saying that the resort had screwed up and hadn't put us on the calendar, and that there were no cabins available. Extremely sorry...but no offer to help find accommodations, nothing. When members of the family spoke to the management/ownership, they were treated to the person walking off without offering anything. The family managed to find some accommodations, but many ended up at my in-law's home. Instead of being together at the beach daily, they were in three separate locations not near a lake (which is why anyone goes to Minnesota in the first place). My in-laws were placated by the resort with the use of a boat for two days, something we would have done anyway, just as we did in 2019. When the next reunion is being planned, Clamshell Beach will get a thumb's-down, despite the years of visiting, based on...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreClamshell beach resort was the first place I ever worked back in the mid ā90ās. The other day I walked my kids down to the resort to show them it (fond memories) and I told them I would buy them a ice cream cone. After we had ordered, the owner asked if he could charge it to our cabin. I responded that we were not staying at the resort, didnāt give him the whole back story and he told me āthe ice cream is only for resort guests.ā At no point were we getting ice cream for free, and I canāt help but wonder if he would have had the same reaction if we were about to drop $100 on sweatshirts or other apparel...my kids were embarrassed as was I and it spoke volumes about the business mentality of this resort and what it has turned into. I will gladly drive into a nearby town to get ice cream for the family in the future. In the meantime it might be helpful if signs were posted in their store about how the resort is not in any way shape or form open to anyone...
