My wife & I stayed at this location on Saturday, 8/7/21, since the rate was cheaper than another IHG in Cape Girardeau and it was only 30 minutes away from Cape Girardeau, where we went to visit my 78 year old brother at Landmark Hospital of Cape Girardeau. He's in critical care and probably not with us much longer.
The hotel is nice but we were on the fourth floor and the room seemed musty. We really had to crank down the AC which made it seem less musty. The pillows weren't as nice as the many other IHG Hotels I have been at. They seem to have less fill in the pillow. Breakfast was average. Besides having the items available you would normally get in a hotel for a continental breakfast, they had egg/cheese omelete and sausage patties. Other IHG Hotels I had been to recently also had a pan of hash browns and a pan with biscuits and gravy. Maybe they were short staff? Also the tile wall caulking where it meets the tub is moldy. Something you shouldn't see in a one year hotel. There is also road construction on the highway in front of the hotel with long lines to get back to I-55.
We had brought along a Bath & Body Mahogany Teakwood High-Intensity 3-wick candle, which we use all the time at our home. We were glad we did since the room seemed musty. We decided to use it our room on the day of arrival & on the day we left on 8/8/21 around 11am... just before check-out time. We had also had another Yankee single wick candle lit in the bathroom. Anyone that uses candles knows when you blow a candle out it leaves a smell from the smoke of the wick being blown out.
On Monday, 8/9/21, I was checking our accounts to pay bills and they had charged us the room rate of $90 & $300 for alleged smoke in the room. Of course, I called the hotel to speak to the manager, but he was off until Monday 8/11/21. I also emailed corporate to complain. My wife & I do smoke, but ONLY outside. They could look on their security cameras and see us on the patio or sitting in our vehicle smoking. Apparently not a thorough investigation and I guess you cannot burn candles in the hotel room.
My wife & I have stayed at numerous IHG hotels in Tulsa Oklahoma, Fort Lauderdale in Florida; Springfield, Poplar Bluff, Cape Girardeau, Festus & St. Peters in Missouri; Danville, Shiloh/Belleville, Springfield & Quincy in Illinois. Not once have I ever been charged for smoking in the room.
Maybe this IHG Hotel is trying to generate revenue since it has only been open one year and...
Read moreThe lady at check in was so sweet, she helped my girls find the bathroom right away and helped us get a cart to unload all of our things. The room was okay, the beds weren’t the greatest but we dealt with it. We went swimming the the pool dyed our swim suits and body’s blue, it was so bad when we took showers there was blue dye everywhere. We spent a lot of time in our room because we had traveled all day, and it was quiet and enjoyable for the most part. The front desk staff was very kind to my girls every time they walked down there because they forgot something. Breakfast was good, but the staff wasn’t filling things as quickly as they needed to be filled, we headed down at about 8:30am and it was already pretty full and everything was empty or almost empty. Check-out was smooth and easy, the front desk lady let my girls keep the keys as a keepsake after she deactivated them because we were there to visit their grandpa who they haven’t seen in 6 years so they really appreciated that. About and hour and a half into our drive we stopped to get gas when we realized that our card had been charged $140 when I called to ask the manager why, he said because someone had smoked in the room, then proceeded to hang up on me. My father in law emailed the hotel to tell them that no one had smoked in the room that he was a heavy smoker and while he was there to visit he stepped outside every time he needed to smoke. The hotel then emails me and tells me we were charged because the hotel room smelled so bad of smoke they had to step back out of the room which is false information because I myself am allergic to cigarette smoke and my oldest that traveled with us has very bad asthma so if the room smelled of smoke we would of had a lot bigger problems than an up-charge to our card. I don’t even let people smoke in my home or around the children due to health problems so why would I let someone smoke in the room. Aside from the false charges the manager was very rude, he hung up on me and I have sent multiple emails to get this fixed and he will not respond but I keep getting emails to do this survey so here is my honest opinion on this hotel and...

Long story short - queen suite with sofa bed doesn’t exist even though website lets you book it. (So for a family of 5 the rooms without the sofa bed weren’t big enough for us) Hotel staff was super rude, offered 0 help, and no manager on duty all weekend.
Long story:
Booked the Queen Suite that the website stated it had two Queen beds and a sofa bed. I reserved based on 5 people.
Checked in, we were handed a room and sent on our way.
Got to our room and it only had two queen beds. I’m not super picky but with 5 people that doesn’t work.
Went back to the desk where receptionist, Marie, was very rude about the fact that the room we reserved (direct from their website) didn’t exist. I tried asking what else can be done and Marie rudely told me there was nothing she could do.
She didn’t even try to help. No roll away beds, no other rooms, and it’s not like she apologized she acted like I was scum who wasn’t worth looking up from the computer for.
I called the Holiday Inn 1-800 line, then gentleman there was nice and said Marie gave him the same attitude when he called the hotel. Unfortunately there wasn’t anything the corporate line could do but open a case and put for the General Manager to call me. Hopefully they call.
If you need two queen beds, it’s probably just fine here just stay away from the staff beyond check in.
Don’t book the suite, it doesn’t exist and their staff won’t care or try to help.
Also pretty sure that even though I went back and asked her to cancel without fees, since it wasn’t our fault - that she is still billing us for the first night. I had enough at that point and was trying to remain the bigger person.
I would suggest to stay away from here. Go to one of the other hotels...
