We enjoyed our stayed at HORSETHIEF GULCH CAMPGROUND, in Nevada Spring Valley State Park for eight days in campsites 22 & 23 spanning Memorial Day 2018. There were five of us in two motorhomes.

Spring Valley is a very beautiful and remote area.. no cell service within several miles. The small reservoir lake offered good fishing. Cindy and my two granddaughters caught 20 trout over the days we were there. Most were caught from the end of the boat dock.

We enjoyed our two campsites especially since they were at the very back end of the campground affording us more privacy. Some of the campsites were level and some were not. Site 22 was a bit sloped whereas our site 23 was a long level drive. The entire campground roads were gravel/dirt.

Our campsites had nice covered picnic tables as well as fire rings. Lots of nice shade trees throughout the campground. RV dump services were available just outside the campground and water was available at several places throughout the campground. Restrooms were available as was a public pay phone.

During Memorial Day weekend, all sites except the two designated as handicapped were full, some sites were overfilled, the overflow area near the garbage dumpsters was also full. Still it was quiet at night and very pleasant.

Unfortunately, there was never any firewood in the campground bins so we had to buy from a nearby RV park. Rangers rode through the campground several times a day. All facilities were well tended except the overflowing dumpsters.

We enjoyed our stay and will go back to HORSETHIEF...

This is a great place with great views, a nearby lake, and very clean flush toilets and showers. It is at about 6000 ft altitude. Don’t forget to take water with you if you like to hike! We connected our RV to electricity. There was no water connection but water was available in the campground and in the dump station. I took a walk down to the creek and saw a huge entrance to a cave on the other side of the creek. I did not cross the creek, but it was easily passable. I wonder how big that cave is under the mountain as it’s not mentioned anywhere. My only complaint is about the three large trash bins located on the campground. They were all left opened, and filled to the brim. This explained the abundance of flies on all campsites nearer the water as I saw thousands of them breeding and flying around the trash. Why can’t they be closed before closing them becomes impossible due to accumulated trash...

This is one of the cleanest and nicest campgrounds in rural Nevada. The lower sites have 30\50 amp electric service and there’s potable water spigots strategically located amongst the sites. Just a skip down the road is a two station RV dump with flushing water and potable water.

If you’re not into great trout fishing, sightseeing, hiking, stargazing or camping, you can always come out and see the old school pay phone that’s free for local calls!

Theres a park ranger cabin roughly 2 miles down the road. The ranger doesn’t spend too much time there as we frequently saw him tending to all the various things in the park. The guy puts in the time, is highly visible and it shows.

If you find yourself heading toward Pioche, give yourself a couple extra days to come to Horsethief Gulch Campground. It’s worth the few miles off the...

Beautiful park ended in the mountains. Sites are laid out nicely for some privacy just maybe a little short length wise. Scenic area!. Nice that each campsite has a covered picnic table. Electric but no water or sewer. Dump station just outside park down the road. Water spigots thru out park. Two bath houses with showers. The newer one had rain showerheads - Amazing! Site 34. Took a bit to get level. Very nicely kept. Staff does a great job keeping tidy! Stunning views on the drive to it. Lots of interesting historic sites to see around the camp.
