We spent an extended time at the 1830 Hallauer House, and recommend it strongly. We stayed in the Suite which consisted of two rooms, one with one bed and one with two beds. The room with two beds was very large, and all three beds were extremely comfortable. There was a bathroom with both shower and whirlpool tub for both rooms to share, and the house also provided many common areas and outdoor places for guests to hang out. There was a mini refrigerator in the room with free drinks and snacks, and Joe and Susan kept it very well stocked for our entire visit. There were also extra toiletries in case one forgot something. Everything was very neat and clean, and we felt very cared for during the entire stay. The pool in the back and the beautiful gardens were just beautiful and so so peaceful. And then there were the breakfasts! Joe and Susan provided amazing breakfasts every day with multiple courses! It was beautifully presented, and when the weather cooperated, we were able to eat poolside, which we all really enjoyed. Joe was a fount of information and kept the conversation flowing every day. They were also so kind about my daughter's dairy allergy, making accommodations for her every day! I have nothing negative to say at all. We are looking forward to returning one day and recommend it...
Read moreI want to thank Susan and Joe for making our stay so enjoyable. As innkeepers they are the most professional, and it is quite clear they enjoy every aspect of their profession. Joe's breakfasts are a delightful work of art. My profession is catering so I was enjoying every mouth-watering bite of his blueberry waffles, which were proceeded by a melon and mint cups and partnered with an Asian-seasoned sausage which toyed with my taste buds, and that was just one of his creations, I hope his guests get to enjoy the eggs benedict as well.
Regarding the rooms: there were three of us and we all slept so well on the most comfortable mattresses, I had the pull-out sofa with the softest linens. The house was furnished with antiques that speak volumes of the history of our great nation. I usually prepare myself for the noises of a strange house but was pleasantly surprised how quiet this house is and how comfortable the evenings were to enjoy. The days we spent were some of the most humid but the home was a respite from the heat, when we weren't enjoying the fabulous hot tub that is.
The only drawback was the narrow, steep staircase (although does add charm to the house) which was the only access to the rooms.
Thanks again for a wonderful stay! Gene,...
Read moreAfter searching the internet for top rated B&B’s in Ohio, we chose Hallauer House Bed & Breakfast on the occasion of our 44th wedding anniversary!❤️🥂. Built in 1830 in the town that gave rise to the Civil War, this charming B&B, a stop on the Underground Railroad, is a virtual museum of mid-18th century and Victorian American History! (And this place is supposedly haunted by a previous owner!). The owners Joe and Susan are a wealth of knowledge of the history on the house and the area! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to adults and teens (with adults) of any age! (There are too many antiques around for tiny hands to touch.) Hallauer House is just 4 miles from the heart of Oberlin, but trust me, it will be worth the drive to this gem on the Underground Railroad if you are looking for peace and quiet, an exquisite 5-Star gourmet breakfast, a spa package, a workout room, if you so choose, and delightful hosts who work very hard to make their guests feel warmly welcomed. Considering all the amenities provided by Joe and Susan, I don’t think any other area lodging facility could even...
