I have thought long and hard about this review because there’s so much to say in a limited space, and at the end of the day I want to love this place but it falls short- big time. Booking - could be easier but I think that’s a koa site issue unspecific to this location. Grounds - generally in good condition Playground- overrun by weeds, grass hasn’t been mowed most equipment is worn not functioning properly and or broken completely. Pool. Dirty bottom -line point blank. Chemicals sitting out in the sun and heat for days , closed the pool mid day on Friday of a holiday weekend to clean it , because people complained of how filthy it was, when in fact it was filthy Thursday night. Blowing the patio off would go along way, being rude to the customers about having to do your job isn’t really cool (head of maintenance) Splash pad- “ not up to health dept standards” according to maintenance so it wasn’t turned off this weekend, even though numerous campers said it was in all week. Bathhouses, toilets so clean you could lick em Showers so dirty I’ll have nightmares for awhile (all pictures provided of bathhouse are taken within 3 minutes of cleaning crew leaving) Mold/ mildew dead bugs , hair, spiderwebs in the showers for days on end, that tells me you’re not cleaning the walls. No ventilation in the bathrooms so it’s super uncomfortable and steamy after a shower. Employees- 50/50 some where so nice and some where so absolutely rude I couldn’t understand how on earth they work here. The electric atv and dirt bikes are absolutely ridiculous, they are an accident waiting to happen and a true menace. (the head of maintenance was probably the rudest man I’ve ever spoken to) The roads need repaired badly but speeding is already a terrible issue, so I’m afraid that nicer roads would make it worse. Even the employees zip around like crazy on the golf carts… The pool rules should be enforced open alcohol and floaties on a holiday weekend are really not necessary when the pool is packed. ( at least put your beer in a koozie) Pool gates / latches not functioning properly, fence broken loose in multiple places. The jump pad was great - it was collapsed in on Friday and filled with water from the rain on Wednesday, but after we asked someone if it could be fixed and it was. The zip line is broken. The swimming pond - sooo much goose poop Only 1 inflatable, when several are pictured on the website. Didn’t use it. Site 106 and absolute dream large trees , shade , walking distance to everything, concrete pad in great shape , site could use gravel , most of the 100”s could honestly. Site had more green space then most, which is why we always pick it.

In general this koa is slightly cheaper than most. But doesn’t offer a good variety of kids activities, they seem very uninvolved as a facility. I chose koa because there’s an expectation of cleanliness, and amenities this place has potential, but falls...

Pros: All the staff were very nice. Everyone in the office/store was great, housekeeping was responsive, and grounds people responded when called for a trash clean-up from the racoon visit during the day. Not sure what someone was talking about when they said the swimming pond was bad...I thought it was pretty clean and didn't smell any odor at all. My grandkids had a ball in there/on the inflatables. The pool was great- nicer than some KOAs that we've visited-and the splashpad was nice. The store was well stocked and the ice cream was delicious! The goats, sheep & turkey were fun to feed and pet. Cons: The playground next to the store seemed pretty old and needed work. There were some screws sticking out, which was dangerous. But, the kids seemed to love it. The one by the inflatables was newer and nicer but the "zipline" was a big draw at the older playground. Geese! Not at all the fault of the KOA, but they're everywhere, which means goose poop is everywhere. It's gross so watch every step. I didn't see the horse's hooves but I was upset by the pic that someone recently posted. I was impressed by them rescuing, but if you're going to rescue, you should take are of them. The cabin: Macy's Manor-It was as pictured. Clean and well stocked. Keep in mind that there's no privacy/door for the shower. There's just a curtain and when open, you're in the one -room cabin (I knew this so this isn't a con- just be aware). I liked the location of MM as it's on the end and right on the lake for easy fishing. However, the best fishing cabin is definitely the Boathouse. The sofa sleeper wasn't too bad and the bed was comfortable. The A/C unit was pre-set on 70, which was too cool for me. But you could turn the fan to low, which was ok. The ceiling fan was good. A nightlight would have been nice. We left the bathroom light on and closed the door but I'd recommend to bring a small one. The mini frig was very mini-could have used a slightly bigger one. The wi-fi worked well. Didn't use the TV at all. The outside area is really nice, including the deck and patio. The cabin was older than some of the other KOAs but it was still decent. Not fancy, but it's not supposed to be! Overall I was satisfied with our stay. I gave it 3 stars as I felt that, for the most part, it was average. But I was not at all dissatisfied...

Been coming to this campground since my children were little ! Very obvious new managers don't care so much for the property anymore. Apon arrival i immediately noticed the pool was closed and that was obviously due to the fact that they had not been properly treating. It was not in great shape. The shop was remodeled and it now looks so " Basic " , Where as before the set up was much more welcoming & bright. Apon getting our cabin, while bringing in our bags.. landscapers were weed wacking right next to us walking as if we were not even there at all ! lol I was so thrown off.. The fishing pond is so infested with algea that fishing this time was not something I or my kids have interest in doing. The paddle boats are all over the pond as well just uncared for. When I went into the store and mentioned how disappointed I was about the pool being closed and asked if I could be refunded if we wanted to leave the next day " the worker Julia" said that the pool was one of the amenities, not something that came with my reservation. The following day , I noticed that the cloudy pool was open but then while making breakfast "OUR CABIN didn't have water for over 2 hours".I called in and asked Julia what was going on and she said that I was sent an email early that day about maintenance...I received no call or text. I ASKED HER IF WATER IN OUR CABIN WAS ALSO CONSIDERED AN AMENITIE after we spent well over $230 per night on this sight. I have also heard talk in only 1.5 days from multiple full summer campers ( just overhearing convos) how disappointed they are with what this camp ground has turned into, particularly the management kaitlyn and her husband. :( definitely never thought I would leave a poor review here at sunbury koa, Been camping here since 2014 and never have until today ! Hope they get managers back like Bambi and chip one day that...

The absolute best KOA we've been to. We loved our spot back in The Backwoods. However, the campground could use some improvements. Pros: - Huge campus with variety of spaces around lake and in wooded areas. - Zipline, jump pad, disk golf, and other toys for the children. - Petting zoo, lake, and nature trail. - Office staff friendly.  Let us receive our packages - a huge plus for us! Cons: - Speed limit not enforced.  This is true for the long-term residents, weekend campers, and maintenance/work campers. Some work campers in their personal vehicles are going way too fast including a gold minivan that is at least going over by 4x - 5x the 5 MPH limit and kicking up dust and neglecting safety of the kids playing nearby. - Maintenance lacking - many unmowed spots and areas (like some of the disk golf course), random trash throughout the campus.  We finally had to clean up the garbage in our site and in the woods behind us.  Just walk around the campus on foot with a few garbage bags and you'll be surprised how much you can pick up. - Major rotting tree in our site that needs to be removed immediately before it becomes a disaster (yes, we informed a maintenance worker). - Nature trail needs major maintenance including whole trees and tree limbs across trail making parts impassable, not to mention the muddy/boggy areas. - Black widow spider in our electrical box - The Backwoods area got quite loud last night we were there with many campers including some unruly ones.  Also, there was an RV where they were clearly smoking the good lettuce, if you know what I mean. 😉 - Overgrown tree branches need to be trimmed back as they were scraping our RV on the way out in a few areas. All-in-all we had a great time and plan on returning.  I hope these suggestions help as this could be an absolutely stellar experience with just a few, easy improvements.
