Stopped here on our way from our home in Idaho to see our son and his fiancée in Durango, CO. It is located just off the 6 directly on our route, so very convenient.
It is a two story building with no elevator, which I was aware of. Still, this 68-year-old man dragging two suitcases and a cooler up the stairs gave me some exercise, though we chose the second floor. Adequate free parking.
There is an indoor pool to the right as you enter the hotel, with the front desk to the left. There is a “sports bar”(more on that later) and a “steakhouse” on the premises.
A very nice young woman checked us in, though it took longer than usual, I think due to their slow computer system. At any rate, I had to run to the bathroom and leave the final steps to my wife.
The room was clean, which was most important. Beds weren’t very comfortable, but they provide plenty of pillows. Bathroom and shower were small. Shower pressure was so-so. Bathroom fan was great. AC worked fine. Mini fridge and blow dryer provided.
There were a lot of families attending sporting events also staying at the hotel. A lot of the kids were roaming free and making noise. We were concerned. However, we were not disturbed at night.
We did go to the sports bar for dinner. This was a fairly small room with a bar and stools, some high tables, a few pool tables, and two or three TVs. They had few beers on tap, it appeared mostly domestic, but the very nice young female bartender offered a nice IPA in a can. Hotel guests get $5 off the burgers, which are hand-pressed and very good, and it comes with a side, for a total of $11. The fries and sweet potato fries were average, kind of soggy, and I like them crispy. The food all comes from the “steakhouse” next door, which doubles as the location of the complimentary breakfast, which is the usual scrambled eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy, coffee, juices, and some other choices. Not bad.
All in all, this hotel fulfilled our need for a stopover on our way to see our son. At $200 a night, just...
Read moreSo recently I stayed at this place. Checking out the next day. I'm not very impressed with my experience. The room was an extreme hassle to get into. The keys didn't work so the front desk lady had to fix them. The TV wouldn't work so then the front desk lady had to come back. As the night went on we just kept finding more and more issues with the room. Multiple things broken. The toilet paper holder and the tissue dispenser were broken. The room was filthy. It looked like it hadn't really been fully cleaned. The walls were filthy. There was a toe nail and random raisins on the floor and a few in the bed! We were exhausted and really just wanted to leave asap so we just dealt with it but this wasn't a very good experience. Whoever is cleaning your rooms needs to do a better job. The walls had grease, dirt, cobwebs, etc. the floor was not clean or vacuumed. There was a toe nail and raisins on the floor and a few raisins found in the bed. The walls were cracking and falling apart. There was paint chips all over the carpet. Remote had gunk on it. And more. Again, we were exhausted and weren't spending much time here so we didn't want to move all of our stuff. We just got my car vacuum, Lysol and Lysol wipes and made the best out of it. I just think you need to know the situation. The front desk lady was very kind and went above and beyond. She even wrote a note so my kids could use the pool at a family members property. That's awesome but maybe it would be beneficial to mark that you are working on the pool and spa and not list it as one of your...
Read moreOverall: This hotel offered a comfortable stay at a reasonable price, especially considering the kind funeral discount they provided. However, some minor bathroom issues and a personal preference regarding the lobby TV might influence future stays.
Pros: Friendly and helpful staff: The check-in process was smooth, and the staff was polite and accommodating. They were especially understanding of my situation due to the funeral and even offered a discount. Pet-friendly: A big plus for travelers with furry companions. Clean and well-maintained: The hotel seemed clean and well-kept for an older property. Comfortable bed: A good night's sleep is essential, and the bed delivered.
Cons: Bathroom needs updating: While the overall impression of cleanliness was positive, the bathroom in my room could have used some attention. The stark white paint felt a bit sterile, and the caulking around the bathtub seemed old and possibly trying to cover up mildew. This made using the shower unappealing. Additionally, the low toilet made getting up difficult.
Lobby TV: This is a very personal point, but having FOX News on the lobby TV was a negative for me. While news preference is subjective, having a more neutral channel selection would create a more welcoming environment for all guests.
Would I recommend this hotel?
Potentially. If the bathroom situation is addressed and the lobby TV selection becomes more neutral, I would consider staying here again, especially given the positive aspects like the staff and the...
