My husband and I stay here almost every year, traveling for Christmas, because it's pet friendly and an affordable place for us to stop half-way on our trip to Pennsylvania. It's been 2 years since we have been here, as we didn't have to travel with our cats last year.
This last trip, unfortunately, it was obvious to us that things are in decline here.
There were several mounds of dirt (crumbs) in the hallway leading to our room, on our trip out. The room itself was fine and the staff is always nice. On our way home, however, there was a dead roach on the inside of the door. There was another (we believe) dead in the hallway leading to the lobby.
We searched the room for more and didn't find anything else, so it COULD be a random one-off or stray... it happens... but it put us on high alert.
What we DID find is a bunch of candy and Rice Krispy Treat wrappers behind the entertainment system and under the desk. I suppose you could say that house keeping isn't expected to look behind furniture when cleaning, but the wrapper, easily accessible under the desk indicates to me that they may not being doing as overall a thorough job as they could.
We also wiped down the title floor as we dripped some water on it when putting some down for our cats, and the cloth came up pretty dirty. It LOOKS clean at first glance, but my husband hand-wiped a large area with a damp cloth and picked up a lot of dirt. Trying to give the benefit of the doubt: it IS raining outside currently, and it's POSSIBLE we tracked some dirt in on our shoes, but there weren't any visible foot prints from us, and I find it a bit hard to believe all that dirt he wiped up came from us coming into the room a few times.
The soundproofing isn't perfect here either. We could hear the guy next door snoring during our trip to PA, and on our trip back home, we could hear voices from the room next door chatting at 1:30 in the morning -- They weren't being obnoxious or rowdy, just chatting at a normal volume, and we could hear them.
The keys are also "sensitive" and often need to be reset. They say that putting them next to our phones can disable them, but on my way out of my room once, I checked to make sure it worked before closing the door, and between then and the 10 minutes it took me to get back, my key was dead and never near my phone. It also happened to my husband who left the room and didn't even have his phone with him. He had to knock and I had to let him in.
If it wasn't for the dead roach we found, we would have probably left an overall rating of 3 out of 5 stars... I'd REALLY like to give it a 2.5 star rating as it currently stands, but since that's not an option, I left it at 2.
Roaches are a bit of trigger point for us. 😅 But, again, staff is nice and the rooms are...

When I arrived at 10:30 pm after a long drive from FL, I did not expect to walk into a construction zone. Had someone bothered to email me or call me, I would have made alternate arrangements. I have allergies and would not have chosen to stay here. Why bother providing that info, if the hotel staff isn't going to use it. The entire lobby was under construction and the clerk was at a folding table. My room was directly across from the construction where a breakfast room was being built. The dust and dirt were horrible. The construction was from morning till early evening, even on Sat. The hammering and drilling were constant. Aside from the construction, the room was tiny. There was just enough room for a bed and no closet. A small wardrobe closet had been brought in and was so short that my dress hung on the floor. There was no chair other than the chair at the desk, which meant my husband or myself had to sit on the bed. In order to go to the other side of the bed, you had to ensure the desk chair was pushed up as far as possible to get by the bed. A small patio with chairs was outside the window which prevented us from being able open the curtains. The patio was literally right at the window. I asked for a wake up call which never happened. I called the front desk 3 times and only once was the phone answered. When I then went to the front desk, the clerk was sitting outside on the bench. I can't say enough negative remarks about this hotel. Undoubtedly, one of the WORST hotels I have...

While she did say she was sorry for the problems we had, and that is not normally what happens there (what else would anyone expect her to say?), not even a small refund on the $120 rate we paid for that unacceptable stay was offered. I told here we would not be staying there again - AND - that both the Google review & TripAdvisor review would stay posted.
October 19, 2015: We went to Radford to see our kid and we stayed evening of 10-17-2015 in room 105 (a handicap room). Checked in around 4:00 pm, and went to eat around 6:30. Had noticed no bathroom floor mat/towel nor any washcloths in room, so we asked for the front desk to deliver some to our room before we left. Got back to room around 9:30 / 10 pm and room still did not have a bathroom floor mat/towel nor any washcloths. Went to front desk - AGAIN - and told clerk who said "oh yeah, I'll get some for you". Next morning when taking shower we noticed a used bar of soap in the soap tray in the shower - so we believe the shower had not been cleaned (shower did not look clean). Pretty gross. The breakfast area is in 2 non-joined rooms, and the breakfast provided is average at best (not many choices), with a few hotel workers hanging around while we ate. The price of the room was reasonable; but the lack of acceptable/good service from the hotel staff, lackluster breakfast, and non clean room has made us decide we will not go back. WE DO NOT...
