To be honest I was ready to give this place 5 stars at first. We absolutely loved the location...beautiful marshes, incredible location, the cottage was fairly new and well maintained, the staff incredibly friendly and helpful beyond any place i had ever stayed before! In fact they were absolutely wonderful! But as we stayed at the cottage, I started to struggle to breathe, my skin and eyes started itching really bad and I couldn't figure out why because I had booked a pet free cottage when I reserved. On the Massey's Landing website, the map showed that they had both pet friendly and pet free cottages which really matters to me because both I and my daughter are sadly very allergic to cats and dogs. So when I booked, I made it a point to not only make sure I chose a cottage that was marked as pet free and I also stated that to the staff member as well. And nothing was said to me to let me know that anything had changed. So imagine my surprise when I start to sweep that I am seeing animal fur on the floor!!! It now made sense why we were suffering all night sneezing our heads off and my eyes were itching so badly! So I go to the reception desk to ask how I ended up with the wrong cottage after I specifically asked for a pet free one. I got told that they don't have pet free accommodations anymore. And when I ask why I wasn't told that when I booked, he just kept apologizing but had no real answer as to why I wasn't told. Because honestly had I known, I would definitely have looked for other places that had pet free accommodations! Quite frankly it really upsets me that they changed their policy because there are millions of us in this country alone that have debilitating allergies and the difference between a pet free and friendly location can cause symptoms that could be just mild to actually life threatening!! So that information absolutely matters to us and I should have been told immediately when I booked that their policy had changed and they had nothing available that was pet free!! But apparently now that this place has been bought out by a bigger company, only money matters and not a person's health! And you would think that after knowing my family suffered like that because we were not told about their policy change that he would have made some small concession of some kind to make amends for their omission. But nope.. In my eyes, if he was any kind of a good manager, he would have done so to maintain a good rapport with guests who may not only may potentially want to return but also tell others about their experience and attract new guests! And wasn't it amazing that when I tried to find the web page that had that particular map with the info regarding their pet policy was nowhere to be found. The legend that had a circle with a dog inside had miraculously disappeared! What do ya know?! Now I do understand that people may occasionally slip a pet into a cottage or RV that is supposed to be pet free but most people do understand about allergies and abide by the rules especially if most accommodations are available to them for pets. So I truly find it VERY hard to believe that they can't keep just a few cottages kept aside for the millions of us that could have serious allergic reactions to being exposed to pet fur and/or dander like I did which really dampened my overall experience at this location and this review would have been worded so differently had this management handled this in a more professional and compassionate manner. But apparently all he cared about was my money. Such a shame because I truly loved this location and not only would have returned but very highly recommended this place to friends and family. Soo if you don't have allergies and you want a beautiful location with nice accommodations with a staff(EXCEPT MANAGEMENT!) that will do everything in their ability to make your stay enjoyable then I recommend this place. BUT if you have allergies and don't want to suffer on your vacation, don't stay here because the manager doesn't give a crap about your...
Read moreThis review is for the cabins and the resort amenities. I can't comment on what it's like to park an RV there or camp there. It seemed like the RV folks were enjoying the experience, but I won't speak for them.
There are cabins that are basically mobile homes, but don't let that scare you off. They are pretty nice, albeit small. If you look at the resort's website you'll see a rendering of the cabin and they look exactly like that in person, except for the flowers. The screened in porch is very nice and gives you a little extra space. When you walk in, you're in the kitchen, which is also the living room. The kitchen is a nice size relative to the rest of the cabin. There is a table that can have two chairs without taking up too much room. In ours, the other 2 chairs were in the bedrooms, used as makeshift night tables. There is also a couch and a corner cabinet with a television mounted above it. The roof is high, so it doesn't feel too claustrophobic.
From this area, you head down a short hall and on the left is the "kids" room with a bunk bed. The lower bed is a full size mattress and the upper is a twin. The only issue here was that there is no ladder to get to the top bunk. We had to give our daughter a boost to get up there because it was high enough that she had trouble hopping up there on her own. There is a very small closet.
At the end of the hallway is the bathroom, which is a decent size, too. There are 4 issues with the bathroom, you can decide how important they are: 1. There is no towel rack. There is a ring for a hand towel, but nothing for a full-size towel, except for the shower rod. There are hooks you can use in the bedroom, but we found them less convenient. 2. This can be a bit of a safety issue depending on the physical condition of those staying in the cabin - the floor of the shower/tub is 6-8" higher than the bathroom floor and there is no grip bar to hold and no bath mat on the hard, smooth floor. It might not sound like a lot, but it can be tricky if it's slippery. 3. The hot water doesn't last long. You have to get in, get clean and get out. There is no time to relax and enjoy a long hot shower. 4. This is where the only mirror is. That's not a big deal unless someone else is using the restroom at the time.
Lastly is the master bedroom. There is a queen bed, a TV, ceiling fan and a closet slightly larger than the kids room closet. The room is pretty much just for sleeping because there isn't much room outside of the bed. To get to the far side of the bed from the doorway, an average size adult will only be able to get there by crawling on the bed or walking sideways along the foot of the bed. The bed is comfortable, firm but not hard.
The kitchen, kids room and master bedroom each have an air conditioner built into the wall. These are modern units that work very well and are nearly silent, so no complaints there.
The porch has a table and 4 chairs of it's own and fits 4 people comfortably. The only suggestion I have for the resort here is to have a mat for the sand before you go inside.
We were very pleased with the location of our cabin. If you are facing the resort's main building entrance, there are some in the far right corner that face Rehoboth Bay, this is where we stayed. There was a small beach behind our cabin and I was able to catch a flounder from there (not keeper sized). From our porch we saw dolphins passing through the bay almost every day.
Just steps from our cabin was the Resort's beach, which was very nice. There was plenty of room for everyone that was there when we went, it never felt packed at all.
The main building of the resort is simple but clean, bright and airy. There are the check in desks, the concierge, the store (which has everything you might have forgotten), an ice cream shop and a grill. The grill isn't much more than a hole in the wall where you order your food, but it is decent. It's not particularly fast, but the people are very friendly. We really enjoyed our stay and would stay there again...
Read moreOverall I can only give this place a 3 for several reasons. I give it a 4 for the facility, it's a nice beach camping resort, the 2 pools are nice to have and they do have some little things for kids to do (see schedule picture). But I have it give it a 2 for the cabins and lack of cleanliness for the price.
We stayed at the flagship cottages. Bring your own toiletries and linens, they provide but just do it. You will need two full/queen sheets and 1 twin. They do provide several bath towels. Bring your own cleaning supplies and clean the entire cabin before unpacking. They clean the kitchen and bathroom but the floors were disgusting! See my one picture with the Lysol wipe. Overall the cabins need a full serve clean it's just hidden dirt/dust everywhere. The cabin air conditioning works well. In my opinion you are camping your not staying at a hotel but for the price we paid I excepted more. We stayed in the middle of August a Sunday through Wednesday, with a golf cart paid $300 a night. My advice to the management is update your cleaning crew or pay them better, for the prices cooperate is charging rates this needs to improve if your going to have people come back or stay at all. Also the wifi is terrible! Download stuff onto your kids iPads before coming because the internet will not work on them. In the kitchen it has 4 set of utensils, and steak knifes. It has a coffee maker and toaster but we just brought our Keurig and air fryer. It has plates, cups and coffee mugs. Bring garbage bags too. They have cooking utensils but only 2 small frying pans and 1 small pot. Don't forget grilling untensils. We also did not experience any bug issues, just some small ants in the bathroom that was it. Also definitely rent a golf cart, the resort is pretty spread out, it is worth it if you have kids. When choosing a cabin make sure you look on the map where they are in choosing which one to stay. There are ones right next to the kids playground, and then ones right up next to the water were by all the RVs which seemed to be a louder bunch. The cabins and RVs to the left of the main building seemed a lot quieter (the side next to the family pool). Also the cabins across the street were right there, on a map it looks like they are down the road but they aren't. But again if your staying across the street definitely get a golf cart.
The pools are nice, the family pool is very nice but freezing! The pool with the swim up bar is heated but so many people go in it, it gets pretty dirty. They did clean it one day while we were there but it seems like they should be doing it everyday if it's that dirty. The swim up bar of course was a big plus and the prices were $9.50 a drink, which is reasonable. There are people working around the resort but none of them ever said hi or how is your stay, even at check out I handed in my key and they just said thank you, nothing else. Everyone that stayed at the resort is very nice. It is a lot of republican white people, so if your offended by anti Biden and pro trump flags this may not be the place for you. It is very family driven, lots of kids and people with their dogs but again everyone was very nice and we did not experience any noise issues. We also did not see any kids driving golf carts like a lot of reviews said, but a plus with the flagship cottages is they are at the very end of the resort and back up to woods so we were away from a lot of people. We did not go to the beach but it was very small compaired to the pictures. The kids playground was also nice to have we took our kids every morning.
Overall we did have a nice stay but they need to improve on summer entertainment/PR...
