Honest Review: Zion Red Rock Oasis, Villa, and Chalet (Wedding September 2024)
TL;DR: ⢠Beautiful setting ⢠Friendly staff ⢠Overpriced for what you get â˘.Avoid the lake after midsummer (unless they've added a pump for circulation) ⢠Watch out for vendor limitations and hidden fees
Overview We hosted our wedding in mid-September 2024 and rented all three Zion Red Rock properties: The Oasis, The Villa, and The Chalet. Here's what we loved and what we didnât.
The Good Location & Scenery Rockville and the surrounding area are stunning. The Oasis and Villa are particularly beautiful. The Chalet is more basic but has great views from its elevated position.
Amenities Tons to do on-site: pools, lake, theater, soccer field, and more. Great for entertaining guests.
Staff Andrea and Devin (no longer there) were helpful leading up to the event. On-site staff was friendly and responsive.
Vendors We Loved Snow Canyon Catering: Jeremy and his team were incredible. Delicious food, professional service, and great people to hang out with. Desert Ice: Customized our menu and was a pleasure to work with. Silver Lining: Accommodating and kind throughout the planning process. Poppa Naps BBQ: Didnât end up using him, but he was responsive and eager to help early on.
The Not-So-Great Cost vs. Value While the properties are beautiful, they donât operate at the level you'd expect for the high price point. Service is hit-or-miss, and extra fees stack up quickly. The bunkroom only had one set of overhead lights - no lamps in each bunk, so the light was either on for everyone or no one. An oversight that they said they would correct.
Temperature It was hot. We moved our ceremony last minute to a shaded spot under the tree at The Oasis. If you're planning a fall wedding, check Zion temps and add 10 degrees for Rockville. Nothing the venue could have controlled, just more of an FYI.
Supplies Very limited paper towels (2 rolls/kitchen) and toilet paper (4 rolls/bathroom) providedâeven with 30-40 guests per house and hosting a 150 person wedding at one of the houses. We were denied extra despite the high cost of rental. Oddly, they did offer unlimited coffee.
Lighting Fees We were charged $700+ for the rental, setup and teardown of overhead string lights at the Oasis (the same ones we own - but they said theirs were the âonly dark sky approved onesâ), even though they were already set up from a previous event. Payment went to the event managerâs personal Venmoânot the venue.
Lake Warning Do not swim in the lake past midsummer. Itâs stagnant, smells bad, and caused health issues for several guestsârashes, sore throats, congestion. My wife ended up needing a chest X-ray after swimming.
Unpleasant Odor There was a faint sewage smell throughout our stayâlikely from a nearby water treatment facility visible from The Chalet.
Vendor Red Flags Platinum Vendors Vendors are labeled âPlatinumâ because they pay the venue a 10% kickbackânot because theyâre the best. This cost is passed directly to you, and youâre required to use them.
Poor Communication Rheanna's Private Dining â Gave us a quote, then ghosted. God Bless PupUSAs & Crepes â Took 6 months to respond Sushi Squad â Replied 8 months later. Venue was informed but did not update the list or help find alternatives.
Electric Audio (Required DJ Vendor) This is the event managerâs husbandâs company, the only one allowed to manage sound due to local noise ordinances. Jason (the owner) has a good rep according to google reviews, but he backed out last minute. His brother subbed in and made several mistakes, including playing music too early during the ceremony. If youâre required to use them, insist that Jason be present.
Final Thoughts The Zion Red Rock properties are beautiful, and our wedding was ultimately a great time, but we had to work hard to make it that way. For the price, we expected more professionalism and flexibility. If you choose this venue, read the fine print, get everything in writing, and prepare for some DIY...
Read moreWe did this trip with a bunch of families with kids so the main purpose was for the kids to have a blast, which they did. Here is the good and the bad: Awesome location and property! located by a river so we could go do some "polar plunges". Pond in the front that the kids loved and played in all the time. The pond has a trampoline and kayaks and paddle boards to use. Beautiful backdrop in the backyard. The kids loved the pond the best. They had a blast in the indoor soccer room playing all sorts of games. They had fun in the theater room and the bunk house. Also had fun in the hot tub and just playing in the backyard. We went up to the labyrinth one of the nights with the kids and they thought that was fun too. The vendors were AMAZING. We had Rebecca come to the house for massages and all of us said it was one of the best massages we have had. Our last day we had Funtime Inflatables and God Bless Pupusas come. The kids had a blast this day. We had a rock climbing wall, meltdown (where you stand on a small platform and dodge a high bar and a low bar that spins around), and an obstacle course. It fit perfect in the backyard on the dirt and the kids played on all of those all day. The 3 guys that came with the inflatables were AWESOME! Very helpful with all the kids and were fun to have around. The pupusas and crepes were DELICIOUS. It was a very fair price and the food was really good. They set everything up so it was simple to just come up and grab whatever flavor you wanted along with a crepe for dessert. I would highly recommend a day like this where you just chill at the house and let the kids run free.
Now for the bad: The #1 thing that left a bitter taste for all of us was that we booked this house on a Black Friday "deal". We booked 3 nights and got a 4th night free. I then went on the website a couple of months later and went to book 4 nights with their regular pricing the week before we were going to be there and it was about $5,000 cheaper than our "deal" that we got. The frustrating part was when I called up to talk to them and explain the situation and was confused how we were paying so much more with a free night. The lady I talked to must have been having a bad day, she was very unprofessional and was basically just saying "too bad, it is what it is" and just kept talking over me. Not the best customer service. I've dealt with these situations before and every time the company will work something out to keep the customer happy. This was the exact opposite. So DO NOT book when they are having "deals" This place is OVERPRICED. Like I said, there is a lot of good with this place and the point was for the kids to have fun and they did. But for how much they are charging, they definitely need to do some updates to the home. The hot tub was nasty after the first night, seems like an old hot tub (but kids don't care). The theater room stinks really bad (again kids don't care, but no adult spent time in there). The adults were excited for the sauna, but the sauna does not work. Tiny heater and not built great, it was just like sitting in a warm room. A lot of the bunks in the house and bunk house didn't have railings on them. Pretty dangerous for kids sleeping up top. This is a must to have some railings on bunks. Not the best layout for a house when you are staying with 6-7 families. There are plenty of places to sleep, but the bathroom situation is pretty bad. There are only 2 rooms that have their own bathroom! Every other room/family had to share a bathroom with another family.
Overall: we had a blast and enjoyed it. the overall experience was positive. It's a shame we had such a bad experience with the management company on the pricing and their lack of customer service skills. Still give it 4 stars because we had a great time. Probably wouldn't go back unless pricing was different or house was upgraded to match the price...
Read moreDon't be fooled by the pictures. Everything will likely underwhelm in person. The first floor bedroom with a "bathroom" technically does - but the shower is like an RV shower (or smaller) and the toilet is so high off the ground you might have to HOP to sit on it (not joking!). Then they second bedroom on the first floor didn't list a bed size. We ASSUMED a queen because all the other main building guestrooms had a queen. Nope, its a double bed! On arrival we found that the primary freezer was out of service causing us to have to split up frozen items amongst 3 fridge/freezer combos in the rec area. Certainly NOT ideal and not a substitute at all for a working freezer in the main building. It said the unit had been out for a month! At that point you get a new unit or at least give up front notice. AC did not work well in a couple upstairs rooms. Host tried to claim it was due to turning it down below 70 degrees and froze it up - not knowing that at least one person in the group knew how HVAC systems work. Then they quickly changed the story and said it was low on freon and a service tech was on the way by 10pm. We were up well past that and nobody ever showed. Instead they set the AC to 70 remotely and locked everyone out of the controls. That's never going to win you points. The washer and dryer combo in the main building is TINY. I have a much larger unit in my personal home. When you have 36 people staying for a week you might need to do some laundry. Judging by the room I think they had bigger units or two sets and one broke so they just left guests with a single undersized set. Not only that but when I went to do laundry the entire washer stank and had serious mold around the rubber gasket. Needs a serious cleaning. Generally there were a lot of lights out or "strobing" as LEDs tend to do when they are going out throughout the place. Damaged walls in rec area and the artificial turf is coming up in places. I would say they need to take it out of service for a solid week and do maintenance all around. One last thing. I had a night planned to use my telescope to take advantage of the clear dark skies and it was unexpected that the entire field is FLOODED with water some nights so I had to change plans. Poor internet overall (I clocked about 20mb on wifi). I get the feeling that perhaps the field areas are not meant for guest use? Overall, I feel like there must be better out there - it just felt run down and not well maintained. Oh, and be aware there is some unpaved and fairly rough road right before you get to the house.
The good? Close to Zion National Park. Pool and large pond with floating trampoline on site were fun. Rec room and theater both climate controlled. Close to hurricane for groceries (about 25-30 minutes). Very...
