We just returned from a heavenly Christmas vacation at The Buccaneer. I don't even know where to begin, and I hope I don't leave anything out. We booked a whole package through them, including airfare for two adults and two young children. The booking process was effortless, and flying Delta was great. No issues departing or returning. Arriving at the property, we were greeted by warm, welcoming, helpful, informative, and kind staff. Everyone there was just delightful to work with. We reserved a family cottage, and it was newly renovated and beautiful! It was as clean as you can imagine a family cottage on the beach to be (I mean, there were bits of sand and whatnot here and there, but what can you expect?). There was a beautiful gift basket waiting for us in our room with delicious brie, crackers, fruit, etc. The Mermaid Beach right outside our cottage was perfect. The water is warm and clear, the sand is soft and perfect for kids to play in all day. We spent the majority of our time here. The Mermaid offers a full-service bar and food at the beach, and everything we ordered was delicious. Brenda and Mayra were lovely, and Heather was on top of our kid's needs. She got us snorkeling gear (a must IMO!), life jackets for our kids, floaties, etc. We ate at all three restaurants, and prefer The Terrace and The Mermaid. The complimentary breakfast buffet was top-tier. Every food and beverage item we had was delicious. The property is breathtaking. Sweeping views of the sea and rolling green mountains. We loved exploring. There is a rec area right by Mermaid Beach with tennis courts, basketball courts, soccer, giant chess, Connect 4, etc. On Christmas Eve, Santa visited the Terrace and brought all the kids gifts. Then, on Christmas morning, they came by the room with personalized gifts for the kids again. Nothing was overlooked. I had a massage at the spa (wish I could remember her name, she was delightful!). Overall, this was the best vacation and Christmas my family has ever had, and we cannot wait to return. This property is everything you could ask for from a 4-star hotel. We met some other friendly families, one of whom shared she had visited there regularly as a child and now brings her family there. She mentioned she recognizes other families from her childhood visits, which I think says a lot about the family vibe of the Buccaneer. Special thanks to Alberga, Mayra, Brenda, Heather, Leah, Frances, Fitzgerald, and everyone else whose name I can't recall now. You make the Buccaneer magic, and we truly appreciate all your efforts to create beautiful memories for families. Thank you!!!

This is a great place to stay. It's elevated, offers spectacular views and the staff is efficient, polite and courteous. It is a historic location which has its roots in the sugar production back when the Danes owned the islands currently known as the US virgin islands. Take a walk on the buccaneer grounds and you'll encounter at least two well preserved sugar mills which are free to see and visit anytime you like. The largest is also used for certain social functions. If you plan to visit the buccaneer with children consider spending a little extra and get an ocean front room. The main building sits very elevated from the beach and pool area and it is a bit of a workout to get back and forth if you book a room in the main building. Also the views from the ocean view rooms are amazing, and the terrace offers direct access to the beach and the pool area. There are two beach areas, one by the pool area and the other a short wall away by the mermaid restaurant. The next by the pool area is good, more so for snorkeling and less so for kids because of the extensive reef structure that sits almost directly down from the beach. The waves there are larger than most parents are comfortable to let small kids play in. The pool area however more than makes up for this, as it is very neat and maintained by a pool guy who hands out as many beach towels as you want and generally is super nice and well versed in the local fauna and marine life of that's your thing. We did not visit the mermaid Beach area more than once, however the beach there is much better for children as it has no reef to worry about. Breakfast at the buccaneer is something else. A positively exuberant buffet of everything you can possibly imagine, so make sure you order your stay with breakfast included. Whatever the price, it's worth it. Some minor complaints from our stay there include a very noisy AC which in all fairness was remedied, very bad TV reception and rather slow internet. But don't let that keep you away from this amazing place, it is the only place I would consider for a future stay at St. Croix 😊

Update: The Buccaneer reached out with a generous offer in recognition of our disappointment with the room. They deserve 6 stars for customer service! Starting with the positive: Service is first class. Every staff member was attentive, friendly and professional. Food was delicious at all 3 restaurants and reasonable. Included breakfast buffet was very nice. The location and amenities are beautiful and impeccably maintained. The beaches are especially beautiful and the cabana rental was very reasonable. On the downside two things: the condition of the room and the price. Part of the issue with the price is down to me not paying close enough attention to the details. Having booked a room in the main house I jumped at the opportunity to upgrade to a Deluxe Oceanfront room for what I thought was an extra $200/night. I failed to recognize the attractive rate only applied to the first of the 3 nights. It was $400+ for the rest. Also failed to read the small print of an 18% energy surcharge/night on top of taxes and fees. A very expensive mistake on my part. Doubly hard to swallow when the room itself was beyond disappointing. The furnishings were old, chipped and uncomfortable. The”closet” is a recessed space with a shelf and no doors. The bathtub was rusty. The door of the refrigerator cabinet was hanging off. The curtains were old, worn and dingy. The sheer kept sticking when trying to open it. (Gave up). The flat pillows on the bed were replaced when requested. The bed linens were clean and OK quality. The bed itself was old and OK for comfort. The room didn’t come close to offering value matching the extortionate rate (averaging $1,000/night). Our friends’ Deluxe Oceanfront room was equally dismal and disappointing.

This is going to be more of a wedding review, but I will try my best to add some things of our stay in general! I had my wedding at The Buccaneer on June 14, 2024. To start from the beginning of the planning process, the wedding coordinator Carmen was very helpful. Their packages are very flexible & very customizable which is nice. The only thing I noticed during it is I found myself having to ask for a lot of information or not getting certain information until after things have already been planned. For example I was never told that I could’ve chosen to have a person play an instrument at our ceremony. By that time I had already picked the songs & whatnot. No biggie, but it would’ve been nice to just have everything laid out to begin with so that I knew what my choices were. It just seemed like she wasn’t exactly eager to give me the info. Fast forward to when we get there, the rooms & the resort was incredible. The food was very good. We did have a couple of our wedding guests find cockroaches in their rooms. We had our rehearsal dinner @ the Beauregard’s which was very nice. We had a run through of our ceremony prior to the dinner which Carmen was late to, which then made us late to our own rehearsal dinner. Mind you this is the first time we’re meeting her & we’ve been there for 2 days at this point. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, I guess I just expected her to at least introduce herself to us considering I’ve spoke to her for a year during planning. We get to the rehearsal dinner & they were late getting the speakers there. I get everyone is on island time over there, but there were multiple times this has happened by this point & it came to the point to where it was just disrespectful to everyone else’s time. The cab drivers that work for the buccaneer are terrible. Within the whole resort none of the employees seemed to be on the same page which made everything difficult. I had my trial this day & was extremely late to it bc the cab driver didn’t know where it was & refused to take directions from my GPS or take the address. He straight up told me to get out of his cab & go to the lobby. Fast forward to the wedding day. Our AC in my room & multiple of our guests room was not working. I called the first day we got there about it & a guy showed up for 5 mins, looked at the thermostat & left without saying anything. I called for the 2nd time & same thing happened. Me & all of the girls got ready in my room & it got so hot to where pretty much all of us got sick from the heat & a couple girls threw up from almost passing out. I asked Carmen if there was a way we could order food & waters to the room & she completely ignored me & ran out of my room. They have the bride in a van when waiting for the ceremony & Carmen opened the van door so that my whole guest list saw me before the ceremony & then gave me attitude whenever I was clearly upset that she did that. I get accidents happen, it was just her poor reaction that made me even more upset. The whole rehearsal/ wedding day I felt like we were completely on her back burner. She was unprofessional and I felt very pushed aside. I expected her to be much more involved considering she was the only person who I talked to during the planning process. We spent all this money on our wedding just to be treated like that was crazy. It was weird to experience that after we’ve heard so many...

My son just got married at The Buccaneer on August 6th and it was amazing! Of course the views were spectacular, but the entire hotel staff were incredibly professional and kind to our entire 31 person wedding group. Everything was perfect: from the rehearsal on Friday, the wedding and wedding dinner on Saturday, and the going away breakfast on Sunday. I chose to stay with a friend for a week after the wedding and that's where I got to find out how really exceptional The Buccaneer is. The food is phenomenal at every restaurant. We even had room service from 2 of the restaurants and they were just as good and arrived hot. We rented a cabana for a day, got in-room massages, took painting lessons, spent time at the Grotto pool and swam in that beautiful warm Carribbean water every day. There are 3 beaches on the grounds. The Mermaid was my favorite. There are tennis courts with a pro shop, a golf course with a pro shop, a gym, a 2 mile fitness trail, a spa, a gift shop, and a boutique with beautiful clothes, shoes, bathing suits and accessories. They have complimentary drivers on staff to take you around the resort if you want. Someone complained that the resort was complicated. Not so! They have a detailed map and once you've been there a couple of days you can figure it all out yourself, but the friendly people there will explain anything & everything. They have family friendly activities but you don't ever feel overrun by children - I love kids but I wanted a totally stress-free vacation, which it was. We took a taxi into Christiansted and shopped & shopped but there is more to do there. They have a great dock area with restaurants, shops and rum infused iced slushes and great sightseeing. At The Buccaneer, the complimentary breakfast buffet is fabulous. I "buffet-ed" through a few 5 star European hotels a couple of summers ago and this beat 4 out of 5 of them. The food in the 3 main restaurants is really outstanding. Everyone in the wedding group raved about their different meals. The other restaurant is the Grotto grill on the beach and I had an excellent BLT there. My friend didn't like her lemonade there bc it wasn't freshly squeezed, but if that's the worst thing to happen.... oh and the cocktails are wonderful. The grounds are absolutely gorgeous. The flowers around the resort are the ones they put in your room. The rooms are also wonderful. I saw three different type of rooms and they all have beautiful water views. We stayed right on the beach which was amazing. I could hear the water as I fell asleep each night and woke to it each morning. I think the best thing about The Buccaneer is the staff. From the concierge people I spoke to at length before leaving home, the people at the front desk, the drivers, the cleaning ladies, the restaurant and bar staff, the ladies in the shops, the 2 massage people we had, the beach staff, even the grounds staff were friendly. If we asked for something, they took care of it right away and with a very friendly attitude. There are people I met there that I will never forget for their kindness. I'd give them 10...
