Set next to one of the Nine Sisters in San Luis Obispo County this bed and breakfast offers a serene setting with geese, cattle, horses, a vineyard and even some emus. La Lomita “little hill” Ranch is located minutes from downtown San Luis Obispo next to Islay Hill, which is the ninth in the string of volcanic peaks known as “The Morros” or the “Nine Sisters.”
La Lomita Ranch was originally a farm on set on 700 acres and developed by Princess Marieta and Prince Zourab. Marieta earned international notoriety by breeding Arabian Horses. In fact, the rooms at the bed and breakfast were once Arabian horse stables and the Lounge was the viewing room. The horses guided from their stable and paraded infront of prospective buyers who were looking at the horses from the viewing room. Now the space offers six Spanish-style guest suites that over look a courtyard with a large fountain. There is also a large bridal suite that has a living room, small kitchenette, bed and bath. Or if you prefer there is a Hacienda, which was the original show barn, sporting three bedrooms, two baths, and features a full kitchen, dining area and a small living room.
The suites feature spanish tile bathrooms, luxiourus down comforter beds, fluffy robes, and a homemade breakfast each morning. Breakfast includes coffee, juice, yogurt, granola, fresh fruits, cheeses, sliced meats, avocado, homemade jam and a fritatta. One morning our fritata was eggs and sweet potato and the enxt was eggs, potato and artichoke.
Enjoy a morning walk either before or after breakfast around the grounds which emcompass a large pond surrounded by Bull Rush Cattails, Fountain Grass and swimming geese. The walk around the pond takes you across the bridge to the cattle grazing and to the emus. There is a trail that heads up into the vineyard with valley views. There is a welcoming patio that has a fire pit and its own tiled water element, next to a manicured lawn. The Pavilion, which was completed in 2020, is the main hall for wedding receptions. The Pavilion offers open doorways that lead onto a patio overlooking the serene grounds romanitcally strung with white lights.
Although La Lomita is a bed breakfast the location is marketed as a wedding venue. When a wedding is booked the entire property is dedicated to the one event. Rooms can typically be rented during the week for guests, a two night minimum, or rented to wedding guests on the weekend. Weekend rates are significantly higher than rates during the week. If you are a wedding guest and the web site states there is no availability, contact the wedding coordinator or family because the venue blocks off rooms for guests only and not outside renters.
This is a five star venue for ease of location, serene setting and quiet space, friendly and accomodating staff, comfortable rooms, beds and...
Read moreI truly enjoyed my stay at La Lomita Ranch! It was quite, peaceful and so romantic. The staff was amazing! Thank you Darlene for breakfast in the morning! Your frittata was to die for delicious!!! It was a simple breakfast, but so yummy and just enough to get you going. Your attention to detail was amazing as well. I caught my jeans on one of the chairs in the lounge area and let Darlene know (my jeans are fine). After we left, Darlene's husband (sorry, I don't remember his name) took the chair and fixed it because when we came back for the wine tasting, he brought back the chair fixed! We were told he did most of the construction to the rooms and the buildings. He tends the gardens (which were lovely) as well. The rooms were clean and comfortable. Every detail in the Spanish style that is La Lomita Ranch was so pretty and we'll thought of. The beds were super comfortable! The shower was amazing! And that body butter you provide was so nice. It smelled really great... Like Palo Santo. I ran out of my travel lotion so I used the one in the room and took it home with me because I loved it that much! We were offered a private wine tasting with the owner and their brand of wine. My favorites were the Albariño and the Garnacha. We tried 6 of their wines. Some with grapes they have grown and some with grapes from other growers. All were very good wines. Becca did an amazing job talking about her product. You can tell she is passionate about her wines and the ranch. The tasting itself was very easy and warm. It felt like we were just friends having a nice conversation over wine. Becca, maybe next time you can have some food pairings to really showcase the flavours and notes of the wine. Lastly, we enjoyed the fire pit at night with a glass of some of the lovely wine. It was easy to light up and made our nights even more magical. This was our 1st trip without any kids in a very long time. La Lomita Ranch provide us the quite relaxation that we both desperately needed. Especially after being at home and not being able to go anywhere for more then a year...
Read moreAdding my TripAdvisor review here because I think everyone should know about this wonderful ranch resort in San Luis Obispo - a perfect getaway from Los Angeles!
This magnificent ranch resort, once the property of a Spanish princess, upholds its historic significance making its guests truly feel like royalty. After driving through a canopy of trees, one enters the gates to a beautiful property and immediately welcomed by resort staff. The grounds have beautiful views of the surrounding hills. The sounds of nature abound as you stroll around the pond or visit the different farm animals including horses, steer, and even emus! The guest rooms are impeccably decorated and include the finest of amenities. Upon arriving to the room guests are welcomed with a basket of local snacks including artisan chocolates (my personal favorite), chips, beef jerky, and water. During this time of a pandemic, the resort also provided a bottle of hand sanitizer. The bath products were wonderful – I don’t always use hotel shampoos but tried the shampoo and it left my hair feeling really soft! Even a loofah was included with the bath amenities. Bed linens were beautifully monogrammed but more importantly were of high quality. Once I could get my mind to stop thinking about how much I loved this resort, I slept so soundly (not an easy feat for me!) Breakfast was delicious and included wonderful charcuterie, bread, an egg dish, and French press coffee. It was beautifully presented and tasted phenomenal. There was plenty of seating outside to eat next to one of several Spanish-tile fountains. It was an incredible way to start the day! While feeling away from everything, the ranch itself actually is conveniently located to many types of activities. Shops and restaurants are just minutes away in San Luis Obispo, wineries surround the area, and Pismo Beach is less than 15 minutes away. Wonderful day trips to take include Harmony, Cambria, and Morro Bay. I am so happy to have found this fantastic getaway and can’t...
