Not a good experience at all. We've started there many times over the last 18 years, and I'm not sure we will again if we can find somewhere else in the immediate area. We booked a 3-night stay five months in advance to insure we would have the kind of room we wanted. Thankfully, I called several days in advance if our arrival because I learned they had us booked for two nights instead of three, it was not the "room" we selected, and they had us booked to change rooms from one night to the other. The person on the phone was the epitome of terrible customer service...low on apologies and offers to find a solution, and high on excuses. I had to say the booking was unacceptance several times before she finally took the effort to finally arrange to have three nights in one room (although after booking five months in advance, in person having viewed and selected the room, we had to accept a room with two smaller beds instead of the room with one larger bed). Our key did not open the door. The faucet handle on the tub came off, there was no plugging device in the bathroom sink, the drain cover in the tub was just lying loose in the tub, the hair dryer was not operational, there was no towel bar in the bathroom. When they "cleaned" our room the first day, it was apparent they did not actually cleaned the tub as the drain cover was still in the center of the tub where it was after I'd bathed. We requested no further maid service There were NO PLUGS on either side of the bed that continued to work when you turned off the lights using the switch across the room by the entry door. To have our phones charge by our bedside, we had to string an extension cord from a wobbly socket across the room creating a tripping hazard. The door locks are not reassuring at all. When I checked out, I was not offered a copy of my bill, nor did anyone ask if we'd had a nice stay. To be fair, they gave us $6.00 off our entire bill (I suppose for the lost reservation - we were going to arrive with no room reserved for the first night had I not called in advance), although this is just a guess as the BILL WAS NOT ITEMIZED. The beds were comfortable. One of the several people we spoke with was professional and competent. We were excited to be there for our granddaughter's graduation, otherwise we would not...
Read moreIt was convenient and they contacted me when I left my glasses there and made arrangements to get them to me even though I had already left. I did have a few issues though. I would have called the front desk to fix these issues but there is no phone in the room and I had my younger son with me and didn't want to walk outside of the room. One of the blinds on the window was broken off making it hard to get dressed and undressed. A light bulb was completely out. Not many outlets. Beds are old and soft. Musky smell on the furniture. The hairdryer in bathroom didn't work. Couldn't put a deadbult on the doors to be sure no one would come in and no chain lock in place of that. The peep hole was stuff with gum so I couldn't look out when I heard noises to see what was going on. Once I walked out into the lobby for the lightbulb but no one was there at the front desk I didn't wait all that long though. Another time I came in the lobby from the room and saw 2 women sitting in the restaurant area (that apparently worked there) and I was almost immediately reprimanded for not wearing shoes in the lobby rather then first being what I needed. I felt like I was a bother to her. I actually had good reason for not wearing my shoes as I left my only shoes at my sisters house and only had high heels until I got my other shoes back. To me that felt very cold to be spoken to like that. No safe in the room and no phone to me wasn't good. Also it got noisy at night time. Had a man sitting right outside our room chatting loudly with someone till very late at night I believe it may have been past midnight. But for a decent place to stay this works. Bottom line I didn't feel very welcomed there and when I did come out to get Something I needed I either didn't find anyone or seemed to have...
Read moreOverall this place is a good place to stay. It is definitely the better of the two options in Sandusky. Most of the rooms are fairly basic, slightly outdated but definitely acceptable for the price and location. They have two suites which I highly recommend. The first is a true two-room suite with separate living and bedroom areas. This suite is slightly outdated like the standard rooms but is bigger and it’s really nice having two truly separate rooms with a door between them. The second suite is literally the nicest hotel room you can get in this town. It has been remodeled recently and features a faux wood floor that looks very nice and a jacuzzi next to the king size bed. It is more of one large room than a true suite and the bathroom is small but this is definitely my room of choice when staying here. You have to specifically request it though, they won’t tell you about it if you just ask what rooms are available.
I only really have two complaints about this place. The first is that certain staff members just do not seem to be interested in working here. They seem bored, and uninterested in being particularly friendly or welcoming. I’ve never had a truly BAD experience with anyone here but it was slightly off putting. My only other complaint is the internet speeds. Their website advertises a fiber optic connection for guests. I have run an internet speed test every day of my stay, and the speeds I got ranged from false advertising to literally offensive (1.4 mbps). I’m not sure if the hotel is being screwed by the internet company or if they’re just lying about their internet connection but it definitely is not providing acceptable speeds for a fiber connection, even if it was a standard hookup it’d be slightly disappointing.
Other than that, I have nothing bad to say...
