Apple Garden Cottage is truly magical. We come here at least once a year, sometimes twice. It is our home away from home. When we need a retreat, a little break from work and life, a bit of quiet, a revival of body and soul. Jan and Lou are the perfect hosts and their cottage is perfectly set up, with everything you need and more. Jan’s breakfasts are so delicious and filling that we don’t need lunch! The kitchen is perfectly set up to cook dinners with fresh produce from Point Reyes. We love how peaceful and quiet it is, with beautiful pastures in the back. The bed is so comfortable, like sleeping in clouds. We enjoy sitting in the living room by the fire and reading. During the day, there are so many hikes to explore at the Point Reyes National Seashore that no matter how often we come, there are more to discover. The oyster farms are nearby - both the Marshall store and Hog Island serve delicious oysters! Nicks is great for dinner. Point Reyes is a perfect little town to explore as well - bookstores, boutiques, Cowgirl creamery for amazing cheese, Toby’s for produce and all sorts of fun thing including a gallery at the back, and Stellina for great Italian food. For us, Apple Garden is the perfect combination of rest and activity, delicious meals in and great restaurants, being pampered and having our own...
Read moreMy husband and I fell in love with the Applegarden Cottage. It is located in a much wilder, lusher part of the Point Reyes Area; with singing birds and choruses of frogs at night. It was fun and exciting to have a tour of the apple orchard including visits from several charming chickens! The cottage itself is beautiful, restful, cozy, quiet and comfortable. Jan's special touches are beyond anything we have ever experienced in all our years of traveling. Wonderful cheese paired with the perfect cracker; fresh yogurt, butter, half and half and eggs in the fridge, and marvelous breakfasts including melt in your mouth scones and a luscious breakfast pudding. Even my favorite tea was waiting for me without my having to tell her!!(rooibos chai). Oh and the crunchy homemade granola! It is the perfect retreat for serenity and also access to wonderful Point Reyes Station with it's artisinal everything: yarn, baked goods, great sandwiches at the Cowgirl Creamery, a great indie bookstore, etc. and beautiful wildflower-y drives to Mt. Vision, Chimney Rock and Bear Valley. Jan is the perfect hostess - warm and helpful but not intrusive. We are coming back in the fall for the bird migration and hopefully some...
Read moreWe have stopped counting how many times we have been at Jan and Lou's Apple Garden Cottage. It is our happy place and even just thinking about it fills us with pleasure. This time, we came from a business meeting in downtown SFO and couldn't wait to get out of the city to the peace and quiet of the Apple Garden. We stopped by Point Reyes for groceries and it was almost sunset when we arrived. The sun was colored with twilight, the trees laden with apples, the cows contented just outside the gate, and Jan came out to greet us. We cook pasta, enjoy their delicious cider. We sleep so well in the bed that feels like clouds, the cool breeze through the the windows. Breakfast is waiting on the porch when we awake. There are fresh eggs from the garden, scones made that morning, homemade applesauce and granola, and yoghurt. Each morning is different and bountiful that we never have to eat lunch. Of course we make an exception for oysters at Hog Island nearby in Marshall. The hikes at the Point Reyes National Seashore are lovely and endless. This time, we took a long walk over the pastures at the Tomales trailhead. We cannot wait to go back! We never tire of this lovely place and all the beauty that...
